See what is being done to revitalize and improve wildlife habitat and resources for osprey in the United States. NSSF, in partnership with Henry Repeating Arms and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Division of Fish & Wildlife, collaborated in this Partner With a Payer project to tell the story of how these wildlife conservation efforts are funded and executed and see the impact they have in the field. Companies including firearm and ammunition manufacturers and importers fund these conservation efforts by paying excise taxes established by the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act (known as the Pittman-Robertson Act). The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) recent report reveals that wetlands (mostly freshwater) now cover less than 6% of the lower 48 states, half their original area. Loss rates have increased by 50% since 2009. The report calls for action to reverse this trend and continue providing future generations with clean water, protection against natural disasters, resilience to climate change, and habitats for wildlife. #Wetlands #Conservation #NatureBasedSolutions

Pax is conducting baseline surveys and preparing a habitat suitability assessment for southwestern pond turtle (SWPT, Actinemys marmorata pallida) to determine existing conditions for Phase 1 of a multi-phased habitat restoration project under a Tribal Wildlife Grant from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. The surveys adhere to USGS and California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) guidelines for SWPT to effectively determine pond turtle presence and relative abundance, habitat suitability within a 10-acre zone, and provide replicable survey results using the same methods in future SWPT survey and monitoring efforts. In Alberta, wildlife sweeps are required year-round for applicable dispositions issued by the Regulator and are an approval condition. A wildlife sweep must be conducted prior to activity resulting in land or vegetation disturbance where there is risk of wildlife features being disturbed or destroyed. These features include nests, dens, hibernacula, roosts, lodges, dams, mineral licks, and more. The liability for a wildlife sweep rests with the Disposition Holder, Licensee or Permit Holder. Many PMPs have revisited and reinvested in wildlife control, but for most PMPs this segment accounts for a relatively small portion of their business, according to a recent PCT poll. 69 percent of those who responded to PCT’s recent poll said less than 5 percent of their yearly revenues are from wildlife services, while another 19 percent said that 5-10 percent of their revenues are from wildlife services.
