If you enjoy encouraging children to be their best self, and you are 55 or better and on a limited income, the Foster Grandparent Program could be what you are looking for! Giving back by serving children and helping those in need gives you purpose and helps teach them empathy and compassion. No educational requirements, just a passion to help children. A Foster Grandparent volunteer provides 15 or more hours to support non-profit schools, Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms, childcare and development centers and after-school programs. Through service, volunteers can earn a non-taxable, non-reportable stipend that does not affect current benefits or services one may already have or have in the future, there is also travel reimbursement, supplemental accidental and liability insurance, professional development and recognition. The WEMP Foundation has taken a proactive approach in response to the vision of "Community Philanthropy" presented by the Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation (CTFCF). This partnership has led to the launch of the "Sham Shui Po Positive Parenting Tour" in Sham Shui Po. The objective of this initiative is to cater to the specific needs of underprivileged families through a combination of multimedia interactive movie screenings and parent education seminars. By understanding the daily challenges and necessities faced by each family, we have developed tailored support programs that reignite hope. Mr. Cheng Kar-Shing, Chairman of CTFCF, highlights the severe situation of disadvantaged, single-parent, and non-permanent families in Sham Shui Po in terms of community work. Our aim is to assist parents in proactively addressing various life challenges, with a particular focus on emotional well-being. The collaboration with The WEMP Foundation, which shares a common vision, represents an inspiring step towards addressing family and parenting issues while contributing to the enhancement of children's mental health. We achieved non-profit status in January of 2023 and haven’t stopped expanding! Our dedicated and passionate team currently supports over 30 participants with disabilities and acquired brain injuries in their homes and communities. What sets us apart from other DD waiver providers is our commitment to inclusivity and challenging barriers. Most providers require participants to pay for all employee costs for outings to see their favorite artists, sports teams, and vacation spots. This makes these kinds of memories financially impossible for many participants. We work diligently to keep organizational costs to a minimum in order to cover employee costs. There is no greater feeling than seeing the joy in someone’s face as they participate in creating the life they have imagined!
