Another step forward for Legendre into the world of modular construction.
The Legendre Group is embarking on an ambitious project: the creation of an industrial hub dedicated to timber construction, located in Etrelles, near the Headquarters in Brittany. 🌳 This 10-hectare site, named Wood Park, aims to bring together all of the Legendre Group's timber expertise. At first, it will house the new headquarters of CCL CONSTRUCTION SAS, a longstanding partner of the Group, and the Legendre Pack workshop dedicated to modular fabrication. This project will later be home to the first production plant for the wood/concrete floor developed by Ingénova, the Group's R&D subsidiary. 🔨 Kannwood, a company specializing in the production of wood facades insulated with hemp concrete, in which the Legendre Group and Groupe PIGEON have recently respectively acquired a 25% stake, will soon join this new industrial hub. Wood Park aims to become a centre of innovation and research for timber construction, affirming the Legendre Group's sustainable commitment to the decarbonisation of construction. 🌿 The construction works 🏗️ of this innovative site, undertaken by the Group's Civil Engineering teams, will commence this summer, marking the beginning of a new era for the Group. Ultimately, up to 120 employees will join Wood Park by 2027. #Timber #Innovation #Construction #CCLConstruction

The South Battery Park City Resiliency Project is a vital step in enhancing New York City’s coastal defenses against the impacts of the climate crisis. ECOncrete’s bio-enhancing concrete technology is applied to retrofit an existing pier and bulkhead, and rock rip rap is replaced with terraced ECOncrete concrete planters to enhance biodiversity in the land-water interface. This project demonstrates how infrastructure can be designed to work with nature while improving waterfront resilience. We look forward to providing updates as the project advances. As part of our series celebrating innovative projects across East Anglia and beyond, we're taking a look at the extension of Christ Church in Colchester, Essex. This project required structural and civil solutions, including steel beams, reinforced masonry, and timber frameworks, alongside tailored foundations and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). External materials and a polymer roof ensured architectural continuity, preserving the church’s character. Through close collaboration with architects and planners, we delivered a sustainable, functional extension that serves the community while respecting the church’s heritage. System Five, a 4energy group company, are proud to have been selected by Polyteck Group to be the incumbent service and maintenance provider for Dalston Works a 10-storey development in the London Borough of Hackney that contains 121 residential apartments (privately owned, shared ownership and social rent properties), retail and restaurant space and an integrated flexible workspace. The team that created this award winning project included XCO2, PJCE Civil and Structural Engineers and Ramboll for end client Regal Homes. Built in 2017 on a neglected brownfield site Dalston Works has sustainability at the core of its design which was created by Waugh Thistleton Architects using cross-laminated timber (CLT) which is significantly less carbon-intensive than concrete or steel. For example, Dalston Works weighs a fifth of a concrete building of its size, which reduced the number of deliveries required during construction by 80 per cent. Amongst the many benefits of CLT is wood’s superior thermal insulation qualities, it can save heating and cooling expenses and increase building energy efficiency. Engineers from System Five’s Service team will visit Dalston Works at least twice a year to ensure that their Trend Control Systems based BEMS is operating at peak efficiency. Mass timber construction is making headlines, especially in Toronto and Vancouver where high-profile projects are turning heads, but the “fast-growing” new industry still only makes up about one per cent of all construction in Canada. Like many young industries, the sector faces hurdles to growth. One of those is the lack of product standardization. Among manufacturers standardization increases production efficiencies, lowers costs and simplifies the building design process, allowing for fast, repetitive construction methods, says Adrian Mitchell, principal consultant, mass timber and off-site construction with Loam Saw Inc. As it stands, most North American mass timber producers offer unique panels/products that give them “a competitive advantage,” Mitchell says. But that is not good for the industry as a whole. The Vancouver-based consultant recently gave a WoodWorks webinar on how to advance North American mass timber projects by harnessing local expertise. He says while production capacity is projected to double in North America by 2029, it pales in comparison to activity in Europe where standardization is common. https://lnkd.in/gQkDzjsg
