We have just delivered Step 3 of The Futurescape programme with SUE POOLE at the Dylan Thomas Community School in Swansea. Step 3 is planning their designs, where their creativity and teamwork are truly shining as they imagine the Houses of the Future. 🏡✨ Our Site Manager kirk McNally was able to tell the children about his career in construction to date, from starting with us 10 years ago as a Carpentry Apprentice to progressing to a Site Manager, running multi-million pound projects and why you do need Maths and why it is so important to learn these subjects in school 🧮 The children were so engaged. They were shown architectural drawings of the buildings we are working on and we enjoyed a brainstorming session looking at plans for their dream homes of the future. We can't wait to visit again and help them progress with their ideas! 💡 This school engagement is part of our plan to work with local schools whilst we are working with Pobl Group and City & County of Swansea. We are on track with our programme to construct a new hub which will consist of a classroom, meeting room, store, office and toilets. As part of our community and school engagement the team have taken part in a local litter pick today and have planned classroom activities with the primary school which will take place in February. We are working with the Pobl Group on the refurbishment of Grade II Listed Cambrian Place and recently had the pleasure of linking in with The Environment Centre volunteers for a community litter pick. The team went around SA1, The Marina and alongside the beach, cleaning up the areas for the community. 🚮 We are planning to work on more community projects in the area including working with local mental health groups and the Community Impact Initiative. We have received full marks from the Considerate Constructors Scheme for our project with Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, a new hub at Cwm Brombil Comprehensive School in Margam. The project consists of a new build community hub in the grounds of Ysgol Cwm Brombil, with offices, meeting room, cafe and food bank. The building is a community hub which sets out to help the school and existing community. We are proud members of Swansea Bay Construction Support Group and have attended their Christmas meeting this week where we presented a cheque for £1000 for 'Hands Up for Downs' and £1000 to the 'Jac Lewis Foundation' from funds raised at their apprentice awards dinner earlier in the year. Our Health and Safety and Training Manager has an active role in the group which brings a wealth of training support and benefits as well as being able to contribute to best practice. The group shines a light on apprentices and training needs and offers an array of support for construction companies in the region.
