Hurtigruten highlights Sea Zero project and commitment to industry collaboration at high-level roundtable in London 🌍 Earlier this week, the Hurtigruten team in the UK had the privilege of participating in a high-level roundtable breakfast meeting with Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry, Cecilie T. Myrseth, at the Norwegian Embassy in London. This discussion brought together UK representatives from across Norwegian industry to explore opportunities for bilateral industrial collaboration and underline the importance of strong partnerships between businesses and international governments. Our representative, Iain Powell (VP Sales & Marketing – UK, EMEA, Nordics), took the opportunity to highlight Hurtigruten's Sea Zero project – a groundbreaking initiative that aims to develop the world's first emission-free cruise ship, designed to be the most energy-efficient in its class, it will feature innovative technologies, including wind and solar sails, advanced battery banks and ‘smart’ cabins. In addition, he signalled our strong appetite for continued collaboration with industry partners and government as we work towards advancing more sustainable initiatives across maritime industries. A big thank you to the Norwegian Embassy and Innovasjon Norge in London for facilitating this important and insightful dialogue. Together, we can drive innovation and lead the way for our industry. #Sustainability #InnovationNorway #SeaZero #MaritimeIndustry

As we move towards a more sustainable future, we're thrilled to work with ports that share our view on green energy! One such port, Moss Port in Norway, has taken a huge step forward by becoming 100% emission-free. 🚢⚡ With electric lifts and electric trucks handling container pickups, they're cutting 10kg of CO2 emissions per container – making a real difference in reducing the shipping industry's carbon footprint. At Viasea, we're proud to work alongside partners who are driving the change toward a greener, cleaner future. Let's keep pushing for sustainability! 🌍💚 Check out the Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK) news about Moss Port here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eT4iWsmr #Sustainability #CleanEnergy

🚨 𝘿𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙯𝙚𝙧𝙤-𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣! 🚤⚡ In recent years, our partners have pioneered the world’s first fully electric fast ferries – and they're ready to scale up their solutions. 💡 But now, the Norwegian Government is backpedalling on its promise to implement zero-emission requirements in public tenders for high-speed passenger ferries 🙅♂️ In a story published by NRK (link in comments), industry leaders like Norled AS, Brødrene Aa, Corvus Energy, Iverson eFuels AS/Hy2gen, Bergen Havn, Havila Kystruten and others are voicing their concern: With policy reversals like this, Norway risks losing its leadership in green technology ⚠️ Luckily, many voices in Parliament agree with us: We need strong policies to keep the momentum going. Belfast Harbour and Portsmouth International Port are transforming maritime operations towards sustainability. With Belfast Harbour achieving an impressive 18% reduction in GHG emissions last year and setting even higher goals, and Portsmouth's innovative "Sea Change" project that empowers hybrid ferries with shore power, these initiatives show how ports play a crucial role in maritime decarbonisation.
The path to sustainable maritime operations starts at ports, as they are essential players in reducing the industry's carbon footprint. 💡 Belfast Harbour achieved an 18% reduction in GHG emissions in 2023 and is targeting a 40% cut this year. 🔋 Portsmouth International Port is innovating with the "Sea Change" project, enabling hybrid ferries to use shore power, significantly lowering emissions from engine use when docked. Challenges like high electrification costs and grid capacity are being met with new tech and strategic collaborations, reinforcing ports as key to maritime decarbonization.🌍 #SustainableShipping #GreenPort #NetZero #Innovation https://lnkd.in/ew3XkpaM

As a young girl, my love for journalism and reading was stoked, in part, by thumbing through my grandmother's magazine subscriptions. And when it came to quality reporting, TIME magazine was always the gold standard--little could I imagine back then that I'd one day have my own byline appear in this storied publication. Very proud to cover the important work Norway's Havila Voyages is doing in transitioning the cruise industry to greener, cleaner technologies in TIME magazine's current issue: "World's Greatest Places of 2024." https://lnkd.in/ezPBBg4c #sustainabletourism #sustainabletravel (Havila Kystruten Sara Leiter Nina Kjønigsen)

We will be at #PortugalShippingWeek 2024 this week, hosted by ship.energy and Petrospot Limited. Our co-founder and partner, Sofia Fürstenberg Stott, features in two sessions - on May 7th and May 8th – where she shall be exploring how port clusters can engage collaboratively to meet escalating demands and challenges of the energy transition. Sofia will also delve into the regulatory trajectory of decarbonisation in shipping, and share a future-focused view of policies and regulations underpinning a sustainable energy shift. At Fürstenberg Maritime Advisory, we recognise the significant need for specialised maritime advisory services in a market that often goes overlooked. The maritime industry is currently grappling with unprecedented existential challenges as we strive to balance trade and commerce with true sustainability, and the preservation of our planet. So, not trivial! We’d welcome the opportunity to see you in Portugal. Click here to register: https://lnkd.in/eUJHX36d #PSW2024 #decarbonisation #regulations #ports #truesustainability
