Last week, I had the great opportunity to participate as CER (Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies) at the Informal Transport Council of 3 and 4 April, preparing our association's intervention to EU 27 Transport Ministers and providing the sector's perspective for a dedicated session on International Rail Connections. 🛤 Finalising the #RailCapacity Regulation is critical to deliver more capacity and offer flexibility to the sector, also through digital means. 🎫 Ticketing is an issue and the sector is working on it. A balanced approach is needed, where sector solutions #OSDM already provide a solution. 🚅 #Railfreight is at a crossroads. Support is needed to ensure a level playing field with road, and avoid a reverse modal shift. Today and tomorrow Unife’s General Assembly  UNIFE | The European Rail Supply Industry Association is taking place in #Brussels, and MAFEX is honoured to attend for the 15th time.   Enno Wiebe, Unife’s new Director General as of 1 June 2024, has highlighted during the opening of the event that we are living “times of change. Not only at national level but also with a new European Parliament and new priorities moving away from the #GreenDeal and maybe less focus on rail transport. Also, the changes at ERA with an outgoing Executive Director. Besides, we must face technical challenges such as the revision of TSI, DAC and many many security topics. Last but not least, the financing topic for the rail sector/ rail supply industry will also need to be addressed”.   Before this context, Enno has stated that he has been granted with a new mandate to renew the Association.   From Mafex, we would like to welcome Enno and convey the message that we remain at his and Unife team’s disposal to continue to build the future of rail together.   

“New perspective, new perception.” 👀 Discussions were certainly stimulated by the panoramic view of Hamburg at the conference location at 102meter above ground!   More fresh ways to look at #railfreight & its opportunities for growth were offered by the speakers at our German member VPI - Verband der Güterwagenhalter in Deutschland e. V. traditional symposium event on 9 January. Animated exchanges revolved around political and sectoral (in)actions and their impact on rail freight’s future.   UIP DAC coordinator Matthias Knüpling also seized the chance and brought the audience up to speed with the latest developments in the #DigitalAutomaticCoupling project! Notably, 📌 the EDDP Programme Board defined the "basic package" of required train functions that are now to be fully developed by the FP5 – TRANS4M-R project (more info on TRANS4M-R 👉 https://lnkd.in/e4QVKcBg) 📌 Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking will soon launch a call for participation in DAC large scale testing in 100 "pre-deployment trains" 📌 work on ‘migration’ issues (e.g. wagon/loco fleet analysis, workshop capacity planning) intensifies and VPI/VERS is taking an active role in it 📌 the UIP & Deutsche Bahn work on funding/financing possibilities/strategies is nearly finalized and will be transferred to EDDP WP5 for further processing 📌 stakeholder engagement opportunities are in the planning such as at the #ConnectingEuropeDays with the European Commission and the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024 No (brain)muscles are spared in order to give the #DAC its best shot at implementation. As Dr.-Ing. #MoreEUbudget4transport 44 European transport organisations, representing the key spectrum of Europe’s transport network, are again joining forces in a campaign to urge the Council and the European Parliament to increase the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) budget for transport in the upcoming review of the Multi-Annual Financial Framework.   The TEN-T regulation was recently adapted to include the presence of a certified safe and secure parking area every 150 km on the TEN-T Core Network. To ensure the development and presence of secure parking areas, funding such as the Connecting Europe Facility financing is crucial. We cannot hope to bridge the deficit of 300,000 parking areas in Europe nor can we hope to attract the 600,000 drivers missing in Europe without the necessary EU support.
