War often brings immense suffering and loss, both for individuals and societies. Advocating for a ceasefire is a call for compassion, diplomacy, and dialogue to address conflicts, seeking peaceful resolutions rather than perpetuating violence. It emphasizes the human cost of war and the urgent need for collective efforts to build a more harmonious world.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency plays a critical role in offering essential assistance to refugees displaced by war, providing them with shelter, food, and medical care. By supporting the UNHCR, you contribute to defending the dignity and rights of those who have been forced to flee their homes due to unjustified wars. This assistance not only meets immediate needs but also aims to restore a sense of normalcy and respect for the basic rights of individuals affected by displacement.
Continuous support is vital in upholding humanitarian values and fostering a compassionate global community.

In an emergency, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency with our partners are there.
As the war in Ukraine rages on, the humanitarian crisis deepens, demanding our commitment along with governments to support those affected.
At the heart of our effort lies the Regional Response Plan, a comprehensive strategy designed to address the needs of individuals and communities caught in the middle of the war. It is a lifeline for those who need it most.
The scale of the Ukraine crisis demands a collective response. The Regional Response Plan is more than a framework—it's a commitment to providing life-saving aid to the most vulnerable. It outlines our shared responsibility to stand #WithRefugees from Ukraine and communities that welcome them.
Guided by the principles of compassion and solidarity, it is a pledge with partners to rebuild shattered lives in the wake of conflict.
Join us in this collective effort. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those who need it most.

“Refugees are
You and I
With different circumstances”
- Elisa Johnston
Today, on World Refugee Day, I honour the strength and resilience of millions of refugees who have faced unimaginable hardships. Forced to leave their homes, carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders and just a beam of hope for a brighter future, the very least we must do is open our doors and hearts for them. The fact that this basic humanity is still not a universal reality is mind-blowing to me.
We must stand together in solidarity, advocating for their rights and supporting their journeys. We must.
We see you, we hear you, and we stand with you. Together, we WILL build a world where everyone has a place to call home.

Well, you say "Kills off" but this needs context.
Whje an election is called or even when a parliamentary session ends (ie usually every year), Parliamentary business' slate is wiped clean. Bills are not carried over unless specifically agreed by Parliament. Basically they need special action to carry it over.
When Sunak called the election, Rwanda was over. Since parliamentvs slate clears. Starmer will choose his legislative agenda aligned to his manifesto and the King's Speech will seal the start of Parliament with that new agenda.
What this means is Starmer didn't technically explicitly kill it off. He just refused to give ita defibrillator.
Which is fine. Should go anyway.
The question is how far will he go? To he honest, he has to undo all the damage the Tories did to everything in his first 100 days. He has to be aggressive and go further. Set in stone the inability to change inalienable rights. The "convention" of old boys handshakes by which the UK exists MUST END!
It's how corruption is allowed to exist.
It's how human and civil rights are allowed to be desecrated.
We need a written, unwavering constitution that can never be repealed. Ever!
Democracy needs severe penalties for subversion. Only trounced by that of human rights.
We need Parliament to defer to expertise and take itself out of science. Giving full, unfettered decision making powers to science (there's the promise of that with Valance as a surprise choice as junior minister for Science) and nobody should ever have a job as mini stern for portfolio without a masters degree in the subject they're responsible for.
This is an opportunity for change, but equally it needs to think about the medium term. The UK is going into it's eye if the storm between the two far-right government. The USA will enter the end of theirs in November, with the worse periods of far-right sandwiches being the second (historically), Starmer needs to guard the UK against the US' WW3 pin-pull. Economically and militarily. As NATO will be dragged into an offensive war of the US-Israeli alliance's making. The expectation will be of support and sanctions will follow for NATO members if not. This is despite Trump wanting to end NATO altogether.
Don't count chickens.
🎉 Thank you to all the refugee leaders who spoke out, the hundreds of thousands of caring British people who took a stand, the brilliant litigators, the NGOs who joined forces and the therapists and case workers who supported terrified refugees at risk.
Together, we won! 🤜⚡️🤛
Today is World Refugee Day. It's a performance 👀
⏰ Cue last minute requests from NGOs and UN agencies to 'invite a refugee' to speak at their pre-arranged event.
🤳 Cue global north players posting vague, performative sentiments about the 'resilience of refugees'.
🎥 Cue the glossy, virtue-signalling social media reels bookended with NGO/UN logos.
🌟 Cue the tokenistic profiling of orgs led by forcibly displaced people, who operate on shoestring 365 days of the year - often at great personal risk/cost to the teams involved.
🍉 Cue the same orgs who have remained silent about Palestine call for 'peace'.
What to do instead as an NGO/UN agency? Take today to reflect on what you will do more (or less) of this year to be meaningfully accountable to people fleeing violence and persecution. Because your PR and comms plan ain't it. 🤷♀️

Would you think of someone going from a meeting to an event, from a stage to a conference room, as of a #humanitarian? Well, you should! Being a private sector fundraiser for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency encompasses starting and cultivating relationships, intensively networking, costantly stewarding, all in order to inspire private sector actors to support our work for #refugees. It requires a lot of energy and enthusiasm, positivity and open mind. All grounded in solid knowledge and strong motivation, to result trustworthy.

I'm thrilled to celebrate five years at HIAS! It's been an incredible journey working alongside dedicated colleagues and making a tangible impact on the lives of people worldwide. Here are some highlights from the past half-decade:
- Crisis Response: Mobilized effective responses to the fall of Kabul, the war in Ukraine, and the Israel-Hamas conflict. We raised upwards of $1 million for humanitarian aid and facilitated the formation of 34 local private sponsorship groups to welcome over 100 individual refugees in California.
- Policy Wins: Successfully advocated for policy and funding wins for HIAS' four California resettlement affiliates through strategic partnerships with organizations like Jewish Public Affairs Committee of California (JPAC) and the CHIRLA-led CA Welcomes Coalition. This resulted in securing $8 million over three years for asylee case management, putting up strong fronts to secure state support for asylum shelter programs at the border.
- Partnership Expansion: Grew HIAS' reach by recruiting JFCS of Long Beach/West Orange County to become our newest California resettlement partner to earn U.S. Department of State approval to welcome newcomers.
- Advocacy and Education: Designed and implemented numerous advocacy and educational programs to empower individuals to take action on behalf of refugees. These initiatives have had a profound impact on raising awareness and fostering support for our cause.
While reflecting on our achievements, it's clear that the refugees, asylum seekers, and other forcibly displaced people are increasingly politicized worldwide, making our work more crucial than ever. I invite you support HIAS in these challenging times.
Looking forward to continuing the work with so many of you across my network!
