Love this concept of temporary buildings - to keep the social heart of the city alive during redevelopment - that can be "disassembled, relocated and reassembled multiple times, without compromising structural integrity." -Arup "Ebury Edge comprises temporary affordable workspaces, a café, and a community center to provide a continuous place for residents old and new to meet as the Ebury Bridge Estate is re-developed phase by phase... the City Council first established a right of return for all residents before developing proposals for the redevelopment of the estate. Unusually, Westminster is committed to the delivery of new community facilities in advance of the principal scheme." -ArchDaily "All spaces are let on a fair rent policy, on flexible terms and with no upfront deposits. Combined with a people-focused approach, this policy creates varying positive impacts from business growth, job creation and increased footfall to business venues, for both shopping and leisure." -Edbury Edge "To give even greater flexibility for future uses, the double-height workspaces are designed to either be relocated together or offered as individual units." -Arup Arup: https://lnkd.in/gPe-tgNY ArchDaily: Below Edbury Edge: https://lnkd.in/g7nSzung #temporaryarchitecture

Stephen George + Partners (SGP) is delighted to announce that work has started on the redevelopment of previously derelict railway arches in Greater Manchester. The Arch Company has sought to turn these spaces into new destinations for food and drink, leisure and retail businesses to thrive within. The arches on Norton Street, Salford, are located in Greengate, an area of the city currently experiencing a period of intensive development activity and growth. The scheme forms part of Project 1000, The Arch Company’s £200m plan to bring a thousand empty or derelict spaces into use across England and Wales by 2030. At Norton Street, The Arch Company has appointed Triton Construction Company as the main contractor to undertake the building works to transform the railway arches. SGP Studio Director, Alan Soper, comments: “We are excited to see work commence on the transformation of these historic arch structures on Norton Street into spaces for businesses to develop and thrive. The development is located in a key area of regeneration and renewal within Greater Manchester and The Arch Company’s investment will help to create a vibrant destination for Salford’s new neighbourhoods, while also supporting local businesses and the wider community.” Danny J., Director of Capital Programmes at The Arch Company, said: “We are really pleased to be investing in transforming these arches. We anticipate strong demand given their location, and we look forward to seeing new businesses move in, supporting the local economy and creating jobs for this growing community. “As a multi-disciplinary supplier on The Arch Company’s Consultancy Framework SGP has drawn on both its design and technical expertise, and extensive track record working with historic buildings to create contemporary spaces, which enhances the industrial heritage of the arches. Working in partnership with MEP, Civil and Structural Engineers, Pick Everard, SGP’s design has overcome a number of technical, environmental and planning constraints that are inherent within existing urban infrastructure of this type. The older a building gets, the more likely it is to be recognized and celebrated for its unique architectural and historical significance. Being listed also means that a property falls under the planning system's consideration, ensuring its protection for future generations to enjoy. In England, there are approximately 500,000 listed buildings categorized as Grade I, Grade II*, and Grade II, each denoting varying levels of importance. Only a small percentage, 2.5%, are classified as Grade I, indicating exceptional interest. Here are some of the top Grade I listed properties currently available on the market - ranging from a charming townhouse in the historic Chatham Dockyard to a grand Jacobean hall in Cheshire, along with city and country apartment conversions.
