Are you part of the plan? 🌱 This year, the theme of the International Day for Biological Diversity is “Be part of the Plan”. At Lucas Meyer Cosmetics by Clariant, we are acting for nature to create a fairer, healthier, and more sustainable world. As UEBT members, Southern Cross Botanicals has adopted a plan to ethically source our ingredients from biodiversity. So because responsible sourcing verification program and suppliers are the heart of biodiversity, the Green Team at SCB celebrated International Biodiversity Day with our local suppliers, listening to a talk about cultural landscapes of the area by Indigenous Nyangabul Ballina man, Marcus Ferguson. Marcus shared his considerable Traditional Knowledge on important cultural biodiversity indicators and Aboriginal history of the area. The team also engaged in planting a small garden around a bird bath as a haven for local insects and birds, and had some fun harvesting the delicious honey from our beehives for everyone to take home and enjoy. Thanks to the team! 🌲 🌳 🌴 Today, on the 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬, we celebrate the important role of #forests for our own wellbeing and the crucial role they play for our ecosystems. Each year, this day sheds light on different facets of forests and their vital contribution to sustainable development. This year’s theme, "Forests and Innovation,” emphasises how forests inspire innovative solutions for a better future. Forests are not only home to millions of people worldwide but also provide essential resources like food, fuel, and livelihoods for billions. Moreover, they offer vital services such as climate regulation, clean air and water, and support our mental and physical well-being. #Indigenous communities, with their deep-rooted connection to forests, play a crucial role in their conservation. By leveraging traditional knowledge and sustainable practices, they protect biodiversity, store carbon, and prevent desertification. It's noteworthy that forests within Indigenous territories exhibit lower rates of deforestation and degradation. The #BIOTRAILS project showcases the significance of forests to Indigenous people through a case study on #handicrafts in the Brazilian Amazon. Handicraft production, based on renewable forest materials, not only sustains livelihoods but also preserves cultural heritage and empowers women. While much progress has been made, there's still work to be done to fully recognise Indigenous contributions and address social inequalities. Strengthening producer cooperatives and raising consumer awareness about the environmental and social impacts of forest products are crucial steps forward. Forests are integral to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, contributing to poverty alleviation, gender equality, and responsible consumption and production. By supporting Indigenous artisans and promoting fair trade, we can ensure a sustainable future for forests and communities worldwide. Let's celebrate forests today and every day by working together to conserve and sustainably manage them. 🌍 🐞 The UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) describes biodiversity as “the diversity within species, between species, and of ecosystems, including plants, animals, bacteria, and fungi. These three levels work together to create life on Earth in all its complexity.” 🌱 At ProFound, we see regenerative agriculture and the implementation, management, and creation of sustainable practices as the path forward in agriculture that can also stop biodiversity loss and help nature recover. 🌳 ♨ 👩🌾 One of the projects that comes to mind while commemorating the International Day for Biodiversity is the Tea Garden project we worked with in Sri Lanka some while ago. On that occasion, together with Both ENDS and Rainforest Rescue, we supported a private tea estate and a tea cooperative to produce tea in a forest garden system! Such an exciting project. 🙌 “Together with ProFound, we transformed a tea plantation into a forest garden production (...) providing food and income to communities, improving soils and the quality of the tea.” Shared Ranil Senanayake (Rainforest Rescue International) after the culmination of the project. 🐝 🐛 Over the past thirty years, we’ve worked with farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, non-government organizations, and actors in the value chain who share our beliefs. We are confident that, if action is taken, biodiversity loss can decrease. This is partly the inspiration behind the soon-to-be movement, ReGen55!, which we are developing in partnership with AGREA Agricultural Systems . #ThisIsProFound #AdvisersInDevelopment #ReGen55! #BiodiversityDay #BePartOfThePlan #SustainableFuture #UnEnviromentProgramme #BiodiversityPlan

International Day for Biological Diversity - Digital Industries takes care of our tiniest “employees” with huge value creation Did you know that the worldwide economic value of the pollination service provided by insect pollinators – bees mainly – has been estimated to be in the order of hundreds of billions of Euro each year? Our tinies employees with huge value creation celebrate their birthday today – on the International Day for Biological Diversity. We seize this opportunity to highlight our ongoing contribution to preserving and enhancing biological diversity (also referred to as biodiversity) globally. As a global leader in environmental protection, we at DI go beyond legal requirements related to protecting and fostering biodiversity. For this, we assess all our manufacturing sites’ biodiversity impacts and evaluate further potential actions. The spectrum of such actions ranges from universally applicable measures such as setting up bee hotels to more tailored ones such as greening building roof tops. You have an idea of how your site can contribute to enhancing biodiversity? Let us know…

Reflecting back on our first UK SCI Nature & Biodiversity Forum in June, key takeaways on challenges and opportunities for collective action included: 🌍 There is no 'one size fits all' approach to applying voluntary frameworks. Such frameworks are complex to apply in their entirety, but provide a consistent direction of travel for corporate action on nature. 🌍 Measuring nature impact is a considerable challenge, given the complexity of developing consistent metrics for a vast array of factors. But service providers are making significant progress in this area. 🌍 There is an opportunity - and need - for stronger cross-sector collaboration on nature and biodiversity. Lesson-sharing and peer support can help to accelerate action. Efeca provides a constructive space for industry collaboration on #nature and #biodiversity through the UK SCI, and dedicated one-two-one support - reach out to a member of our team if you would like to learn more. FAIR TRADE Latest EcoMeme goes live Friday 24th May. Westie ain't cheap! Protecting and restoring nature is expensive and requires long term investment and commitment in order to achieve successful results. In order to deliver the best results for nature a biodiversity credit market needs to factor in high prices for high integrity credits that deliver positive outcomes for nature with high degrees of certainty. None of this is cheap. Payment for successful biodiversity protection and restoration includes consideration for pre-action planning, field implementation, and post-action monitoring and evaluation. In addition, when a positive biodiversity outcome is encapsulated as a credit and delivered to market there are additional expenses for the verification and governance requirements associated with this. The good news is that labour is a large component of the required cost base (https://lnkd.in/gGvueSmQ) so if done correctly there are opportunities for biodiversity credit markets to deliver positive outcomes for nature through meaningful pay for meaningful work undertaken by Traditional Owners and people in local communities. Our aim is to build the world's best biodiversity credit market, one that recognises the true value of nature, results in an equitable distribution of benefits and empowers local communities along the way! Followers of NovelEco we've got you covered for this airdrop 😉 - thanks all for your support 🙏 Follow the NovelEco account before Friday 24th May to be included. #naturepositive #naturalfutures #ecosystemrestoration #biodiversity #web3 #30x30 💚 🌳

Driving Sustainability Driven Innovation
3moFostering biodiversity is a key element of a sustainable future. Overlooked for too long, it starts with awareness. Planting a biodiverse garden in a public space is a great way to create such awareness. This makes the initiatives to protect biodiversity in our value chains visible and tangible. There’s green plots around many of our companies…
