How are young people start exploring their career options matter
I've been quiet on here- but only because it's been such a busy year at NYC Department of Youth & Community Development! I'm lucky to be a part of the most amazing DYCD team who worked incredibly hard- together with our non-profit, government and private sector partners- to accomplish so much this year. 2023 will be a hard year to top for the DYCD #youthworkforce team, but that won't stop us from trying. The 2024 Ladders for Leaders application is officially launched. If you know an ambitious young New Yorker looking for a paid summer internship, encourage them to apply! If you're an employer who wants access to the best future talent in NYC, you need to #hirenycyouth through this program!

Hi All. Just wondering if anybody knows of any type of register, company directory, list of UK organisations which actively support neurodiverse younglings in terms of work experience, apprenticeships within their technology functions? Yes, I know many orgs do, yes I know many have DE&I policies to support this but finding such information can be itself difficult to find for neurodiverse individuals. For context this from Aviva is a great example. https://lnkd.in/eqhUqDkQ Thanks in advance.
Excited to announce a new internship programme that will help young adults on the autism spectrum transition from education into employment. The Norwich based initiative - in partnership with The Wherry School Trust, Norfolk County Council and the national transition-to-work charity DFN Project SEARCH - will create urgently needed inclusive employment opportunities for young adults with autism. And will provide specialised training and practical work experience from our city centre offices in Norwich. The Wherry School, Norwich – a specialist school for Autistic Learners - will host an open evening about the programme on Thursday 23rd November 2023 at 4:00pm to help young people and their families find out more about the internship opportunities and how to apply. The event will be an opportunity to meet the education team at the Wherry School, and is open to anyone interested in the internship, including those who may already be in their final years of education in another setting. Attendees will also meet the wider project team at Aviva and other young people exploring similar workplace opportunities. Please contact the school for more information. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eWQd88zV https://lnkd.in/eYH4agA8

We are heartbroken by the continued racist violence and unrest happening across our country. We firmly stand against all forms of racism and discrimination, and our hearts go out to everyone affected. At Uptree, we are committed to creating a welcoming and safe community for all young people as they transition from education to employment. The summer is a vital time for young people to gain valuable work experience and we recognise the added challenges targeted groups may be facing at this time. Here are some ways you can provide meaningful support during any work placements or internships you are holding with young people: 1️⃣ Check in with empathy: Ensure attendees feel safe and comfortable traveling to the office. If they have concerns, consider offering flexible hours, remote work options, or postponing the placement to a later date. 2️⃣ Be attentive: Pay attention to their energy levels and overall mood. They may be worried about family or friends, so be understanding and willing to adjust schedules if needed. 3️⃣ Create a welcoming environment: Make sure your team is especially friendly and inclusive, showing genuine care and support. 4️⃣ Highlight well-being resources: Let them know about any available well-being facilities, such as counseling services, break rooms, or other support systems. Ensure they feel they have a safe space to turn to. Racism and Islamophobia have no place in our society. Our thoughts are with those affected. Now more than ever we need to stand by all our communities and work together to drive meaningful change.

The UK's #creative industries face a diversity gap, with only 13% of creatives from BAME backgrounds and 11% disabled, highlighting an urgent need for action. Linda Nguyen suggests collaborative efforts with #charities and #internships to empower the next #generation without pandering, breaking barriers by championing #scholarships, internships, and inclusive spaces for underrepresented groups. 📣 Attention Network 📣 Do you value resilience, creativity, attention to detail, and unique perspectives? Then you value neurodiversity! Ambitious about Autism, Marsh McLennan’s award-winning charity partner, are at the forefront of helping corporations recognise the value autistic people can bring to the workplace. Through organising paid internships, training days, updating recruitment policies and more, attitudes and outcomes are changing: 22 paid work experiences were provided to autistic young people across Marsh McLennan UK. 238 people received specialist training to be able to support an autistic person within their teams. Lived Experience Advisory Group (LEAG) of neurodivergent colleagues set up. 10+ resources were developed to support autistic people and their parents / carers, including toolkits, networks, newsletters and training sessions. They’re doing excellent work, but they need our help. They’ve tasked us interns with a fundraising challenge, £500 by Friday. Ambitious, but that’s right on brand. So let's get giving, and get sharing! https://lnkd.in/dnQYrDr2

The next best thing to seeing Building STEPS in the news is seeing our alumni and young professionals getting public recognition. Roselany, 2nd from the right, is today an internship lead at Urban Alliance and Samman, 3rd from the right, is a 1st year college student and Urban Alliance intern. This is what student success and community partnership looks like! #nonprofits #studentsuccess #parnerships
