Yesterday was International Refugee Day, honoring the resilience of refugees worldwide. In 2024, the U.S. has welcomed over 65,000 refugees through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) and is on track to welcome the most refugees in a single year in the modern history of the program. With an ambitious goal of 125,000 admissions set for FY 2024, the U.S. reaffirms its commitment to providing safety and opportunity for vulnerable populations. The language services industry, including MLT, plays a crucial role in this effort. Our interpreters help refugees navigate the asylum process, ensuring they are heard and understood. Let's continue to support and welcome refugees, fostering an inclusive and compassionate world. #InternationalRefugeeDay #LanguageServices #RefugeeSupport #MLT

"Australia is undoubtedly facing a number of critical challenges including but not limited to housing, infrastructure congestion, cost of living, pressure on welfare and social services, cost and transition of energy. To lay blame at the feet of migrants and refugees is not only inaccurate and unjust, but could be harmful to our national interest in a global competition for skills and capital. The solution is not as simple as dramatically reducing our migrant and refugee intake, but rather the critical task of strategic policy reform that allows our economy and society to grow in a more sustainable way including more affordable housing and cleaner energy. " #refugeeweekAU
Migrants and refugees are part of the solution to Australia’s critical challenges, not its cause. Huy Truong, Co-founder and Executive Chairman of Thrive Refugee Enterprise, shares his thoughts on how we can do better in our approach to migration and refugees. The recent discussion on cutting permanent migration and the humanitarian program has raised a strong sense of dejavu – and not in a good way. I was studying in the US in 1997 when One Nation and its warnings about ‘being swamped’ by Asians and need to cut migration first appeared in the public and political discourse. I have to say, as an Asian Australian refugee, it was incredibly confronting and uncomfortable. Not surprisingly, I was asked by a number of Americans and other nationalities for my response... On World Refugee Day and every day, Canada shows solidarity with refugees and other displaced people worldwide. We continue to be a leading example in refugee resettlement by offering more ways for them to find safety here. This includes committing to • establishing new multi-year resettlement commitments for 2024–2026 • funding various capacity-building projects in the Americas and working with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency • making Canada’s refugee labour mobility pathway a permanent economic immigration program by 2025 Learn more about Canada’s refugee system and what we do to meet our humanitarian commitments: https://bit.ly/3RsO8Hm #WorldRefugeeDay #WithRefugees

I invite you to look at the findings of the public perception of refugees, collected through the biggest global survey on this topic and presented today by Dominique Isabelle Hyde, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and Trinh Tu, Ipsos, at the United Nations: https://lnkd.in/eyb7t62G A complex picture of concerns and acceptance, yet with the basic consensus that people ought to be able to take refuge in other countries!
I’m very proud to represent Ipsos at the United Nations today, to launch a joint Ipsos and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, global survey on public attitudes towards refugees across 52 countries for #WorldRefugeeDay 2024. It’s the largest study of its kind, providing comprehensive #evidence to support better #policies and better #communications. Thank you Darrell Bricker, Hana Baronijan, Bathoul A. , Sarah Epstein, Dailo Alli Alonso and Olga Sarrado Mur

Afghan Health Partners | UN Advisor | Afghan Evacuation, Resettlement & Healthcare | Director, Religious Identity SIGs @Harvard | Meet me at the intersection of Healthcare & Human Rights
Calling are New Yorkers with a heart for refugees! The amazing people at Hearts & Homes for Refugees are helping New Yorkers to onboard with an exciting new State Department-led program known as the Welcome Corps. Welcome Corps allows U.S. citizens to support refugees who have been approved for resettlement through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). The U.S. currently faces a massive backlog of refugees, particularly from Afghanistan. The need is also urgent. A potential change of administration in 2025 will likely affect the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program; in Fiscal Year 2018, U.S. refugee admissions reached a historic low since the resettlement program first launched in 1980. It's time to act, now. Here’s how New Yorkers can change a life: 1. Email hello@heartsandhomesforrefugees.org with the subject, “Welcome Corps” to start a conversation with one of our staff about how you can get involved with the welcoming movement. 2. Start organizing a group of five friends, or members of your house of worship, civic group, book club… anyone who lives within a 30-minute radius to join a private sponsor group (PSG)! 3. List your PSG's preferences as part of the Welcome Corps application. Do you want to resettle a single, two people, or a family (and what size)? Is there a specific population you’d like to sponsor and resettle? Do you want to help those who have been waiting the longest? Or do you want to resettle Afghan allies, perhaps facing deportation in Pakistan? 4. Fundraise! But don’t worry! Although Welcome Corps requires each group to raise $2,425 per refugee resettled, several funds can cover more than half of that requirement, and HHR can provide guidance on how to fundraise the remainder. 5. Work with Hearts & Homes for Refugees to fill out your online application. Within a few months, HHR will support you as your team provides core sponsorship services for 90 days. https://lnkd.in/g9d9Asqv
