🛶 Dock Day 🛶 As the neatly stacked pieces of the dock sit in order, there’s a collective sigh of relief. A quick exchange of high-fives among the small, dedicated group who’ve been tackling this task together for many years. Sitting back to admire our work this weekend, we couldn’t help but reflect on how much this process has evolved. What was once a tedious job has become a streamlined ritual, but now we realize we’ve become a little stubborn in owning it. It’s no longer just about getting the docks out; it’s about progression and thinking of the future of the club. Our board, made up of the BEST volunteers, works tirelessly to make sure things run smoothly. We’re working hard to transfer years of hands-on experience into solid procedures and documents, creating a roadmap for the next team. They’ll get a lifejacket - clear guidance - whereas we had to learn to swim or risk sinking. Succession planning has become a cornerstone of our back-office organization, ensuring that when the time comes, the future team will be ready to take the helm. #EndOfSeason #NewBeginnings #SuccessionPlanning #Teamwork #StreamlinedProcess #VolunteerPower #FutureFocused #ClubLeadership #PassingTheTorch #BuiltToLast

There is no promising treatment of dementia in sight despite the dementia prevalence will triple over the next 25 years. Anti-Abeta mAbs like lecanemab and donanemab are interesting but expensive new treatments but they are only moderately efficacious and only in early stage Alzheimer’s No effect in late stage disease and in other types of dementia. It is furthermore difficult to see how lifelong (expensive) treatment of all such patients could ever be financed. The only future option to handle established dementia is therefore to conduct proper care like May does at her care home, Dagmarsminde, in Denmark. It will furthermore be necessary to establish preventive measures like we plan to do in ElderHubs, which at the same time strongly increases the quality of life for the elderly. Prevention apart from proper care seems to be the only realistic measure for handling this enormous problem to the aging human society. https://lnkd.in/etpxyTvA

An Education Full of Wonder We have chosen the Big Tree to scaffold our Mission, Values and Learning Attributes as part of our Packwood Strategic Plan 2030. It is a cherished beech tree, standing proudly in the centre of our beautiful, rural site. It represents childhood and growth. Childhood, after all, has to be an age of discovery and growth. These days are remembered for life, and it must never be allowed to become the age of anxiety. The health of Big Tree comes from the strength of its roots: soaring performance, adventure and character underpin our approach to nurturing wisdom. The trunk, robust enough not to be blown off course by storms, represents our three values - tenacity, respect and humility. A Packwoodian has both an impressive inner cohesion and balance, and ability to go confidently into unfamiliar situations. The branches, all inter-woven together for the children to climb and move nimbly between, represent the fun of childhood and the skills and attributes developed through self-mastery and discovery. In 2003, the author John Mortimer, wrote about the need for children to roam freely. He said, "children should, of course, always be heard, but they may need not always be seen. Let's hope that they are up a tree somewhere, engaged in life affirming skills that have nothing to do with the job market" Our Packwood Strategy can be downloaded here: https://lnkd.in/evApJyPM I can't wait to get started with our brilliant team of staff. #Packwood2030 #AnEducationFullofWonder #WonderFULL
Packwood's Strategic Plan 2030 marks an exciting new chapter, focused on the joy of childhood and inspiring pupils to develop character virtues, an adventurous spirit and a developed mindset for soaring performance. "In choosing Packwood for our family we looked far and wide; but ultimately, the values, vision and mission of the new Head, Will Goldsmith, gave us confidence in the value of our investment. The beautiful place, inspiring strategy and leadership of the school, made us feel right at home, and part of the Packwood family." The results are in…and next week we’ll announce the winner of the Great Colleague of the Year. The winner joins a select group of previous winners. Regardless of the actual winner, all the nominees richly deserve to be in the mix - all have gone above and beyond what was expected of them. This initiative reinforces then need for ongoing recognition, appreciation and praise…a few words, recognising the input and contribution of others, costs nothing but creates something very special. It aligns with the concept of leaders as changemakers, service and the concept of servant leadership….all of which are important to me. Finally, a shout out to my own team - the People Team - without whom this exercise wouldn’t have happened. Working with colleagues in Communications, they take these initiatives and turn them into something shiny, tangible, which make a difference, nurture our culture and build a sense of place. #unsungheros #recognition #appreciation #service #servantleaders #culture
