Strategic Business Development | Sales Management | Global Airport Retailing | Travel Retail | Airport CXM | Channel Management | Ocean Plastic Hunter
Sustainability and digital are two of the hot topics across both travel retail and luxury today, and they both face a similar problem: Good ideas can quickly become empty buzzwords. Regenerative agriculture has been quickly embraced by the luxury and fashion community as a way to offer sustainability and source new materials. But it is not a defined concept and we all know that consumers will do their own research and both identify and call out greenwashing. It is time the industry looked seriously at creating a united set of standards for sustainability. If we have a bar set, then it will be better for everyone. #sustainability #luxury #greenwashing

MBD has just returned from the Velocity Institute Sustainability Summit held in Austin last week! We continue to be deeply inspired by the insightful speakers at the event. A few notable quotes we'd like to share: "Most industries can reduce their impact. The food industry has the power to actually improve it!" - Tom Hermes and Caitlin Leibert from Whole Foods Market "Even in the face of recession, the US natural and organic product industry is poised to surpass $300B by 2024." - Simon Cutts at SPINS "62% of US adults say that food choices can impact the planet. And more than half would switch to a different food brand if it could impact climate change." - Morgan Drummond at Misfits Market "How can we ask [sustainability] questions in similar ways to make it easy for suppliers?" - Andrew Horn at Walgreens Boots Alliance "8 in 10 consumers are looking ON PACK for recycling information." - Katherine Huded from The Recycling Partnership “We at Marketing By Design LLC want to make a difference on a bigger scale. And private brand has a significant opportunity to do this.” – Maria Dubuc @ MBD For more takeaways, don't miss our newest blog with a recap of the event! #sustainability #sustainablepackaging #retailbrands #storebrands #privatebrands https://lnkd.in/gPH3JUu4

“How might we ensure we can feed the next billion people and heal our planet?” We can do that by working together. The kind of collaboration we need here is rare – and one of the most powerful things we can do is hold the space for different players across the food system to come together. Last week Circularity delivered our XLabs NZ circular design sprint to do just that. This year working alongside some of the best and brightest to tackle a challenge facing their business, industry, Aotearoa, and the world as we navigate a changing climate. This included people right across our supply chains from the growers, manufacturers, food rescue, councils, packhouses, coolstores, distribution networks, food upcyclers, and global food brands. Together, we explored the challenges of food waste, refrigerants, sustainable behavior change, scaling regenerative practices, funding, and loss of nutrients. All problems that are held in place by the systems that surround them, hence the need to design them out. Over three days we ideated solutions using our circular-by-design methods, prototyped them to validate with experts, and are pitching them on the 1st of September alongside our partners Ministry for the Environment | Manatū mō te Taiao. Together, we explored how we might create the future of food to be abundant, resilient, and circular by design. "Thanks for creating the space to work with like-minded people on real-life problems and opportunities. You achieved this for me in a safe and supportive space. So much learning for me, opened my eyes to the circular options. I've learned that collaboration is key!" At XLabs, we are creating space for more imaginative innovation, more collaborative collisions, and more tangible progress. We thank all the teams, experts, and people who joined us to redesign our food system. At GRAF UK, we are committed to making a positive impact on the environment. That's why we're excited to introduce our latest "Swap of the Month" initiative, dedicated to promoting sustainability in our workplaces and beyond. Our "Swap of the Month" initiative aims to showcase eco-friendly alternatives to everyday items, and we've already made a splash with our first swap: plastic-free, plant-based chewing gum from OH MY GUM! Say goodbye to traditional gum with its hidden plastic content and embrace this biodegradable option, made from natural chicle (tree sap from the sapodilla tree in Mexico). Our recent "Swaps" event was a huge success, and we couldn't have asked for a better partner than Earth Ale, who hosted an amazing beer tasting event for us. We believe in collaborating with like-minded businesses that share our passion for quality and eco-conscious choices. Treading lightly on the earth is at the core of their values, with a percentage of their sales going towards supporting Wild Oxfordshire's nature recovery work, particularly their hedgerow project. These natural highways provide crucial safe passage for insects and animals, fostering biodiversity. Sustainability is a collective effort, and we believe that even small changes can create significant positive impacts. Adopting eco-conscious choices in your business or personal life can pave the way for a greener future. Let's lead by example and inspire others to follow suit. #ecofriendly #sustainability #sustainable #ecofriendlyproducts

SUSTAINABILITY Ultimately, consumers are the key in establishing the outcome of Sustainability. A study by Nielsen IQ Feb 6, 2023 found that 78% of US Consumers say that a “Sustainable Lifestyle” is important to them. A recent Futerra survey of over 1,000 consumers in the USA and UK, discovered that 96% of people feel their own actions, such as donating, recycling, or buying ethically, can make a difference. And over half believe that they personally can make a big difference. However, according to a recent article by Boston Consulting Group, they found that… Some consumers are confused about what they, as individuals, can do to make a difference; only 20% think that they can personally have an impact. More significantly, approximately 70% are disillusioned—wary of corporate claims about progress toward sustainability and suspicious that those corporate commitments are a ruse masking the true intent: merely to burnish reputations and attract customers. High-profile allegations of corporate greenwashing only bolster the disillusionment. There have been many studies and surveys conducted about consumer recycling habits. The numbers vary but averaging out to that only 36-38% of consumers actually recycle the Food and Beverage packaging they regularly use. Resulting in that each year, billions of tons of waste end up in landfills, contributing to environmental pollution and depleting our natural resources. We as consumers must “Walk the Talk” or sustainable business practices by environmentally responsible companies will never reach their full intended impact. From Winery to Consumer...At VS Importing we are 100% "Sustainable"! With our winery, packaging, logistic and distributing partners we will always try to improve on our contributions to Sustainability. "Methods Change...traditions shouldn't" Ultimately, we consumers are the key to establishing the outcome of Sustainability. #sustainable #sustainablebusinesspractices #recycle #landfills #ecofriendlypackaging #winebytheglass #KeyKeg #Beerdistributors #NBWA #Reyesbeveragegroup #Championbrands #JJTaylorcompanies #levyrestaurantgroup #Levy
