Since Spicer Landfill became a Tyrewise location at the start of September, more than 1100 used tyres have been dropped off. Ka pai Porirua! 👏 That adds up to more than 13 tonnes of used tyres diverted from the landfill and kept out of our streams and harbour. As part of the nationwide product stewardship scheme, these tyres will be sent to different companies where they will gain a new life as playground matting, sportsgrounds or in cement production. Other benefits we’ve seen so far at Spicer Landfill include space freed up that was previously used for stockpiling old tyres, and time that went towards shredding and burying the tyres can now be focused elsewhere. Up to five old tyres can be dropped off at a time at Spicer Landfill free of charge (by the public - no businesses sorry!), so long as the tyres are clean and do not have rims. https://lnkd.in/gspvfzHz

Paving the Future with Recycled Tyres! In mid-March, State Asphalt Services, in collaboration with Transport for NSW and Ventia, made history by using crumb rubber asphalt for the first time on a NSW State Road. The crumb rubber-based binder was produced using the "wet process". This ground-breaking project took place on the M4 at Emu Plains and was recently featured across Channel 7 and Channel 9 News. 📺 Our innovative blend uses 9kg of recycled tyre rubber per 1000kg of asphalt. With 1300 tonnes of this special mix, we’ve successfully reused around 1,400 car tyres! 🚗♻️ The result is low-odour, resilient asphalt that's not only better for the environment but also for our roads. The benefits are potentially huge, even in Australia's most punishing weather conditions, this innovative approach promises a longer lifespan for our road surfaces and helps to muffle traffic noise, creating quieter, more durable roads. With continued support from Transport for NSW, State Asphalt Services and The Kypreos Group we aim to divert thousands of tyres from landfill over the coming years by specifying crumb rubber asphalt wherever it's cost-effective. 🌏💚 At State Asphalt Services, a Kypreos Group company, we are dedicated to sustainability and innovation in every project. Let’s drive towards a greener future! #Sustainability #Recycling #Innovation #RoadConstruction #Asphalt #GreenFuture #TheKypreosGroup

🚀 Milestone Moment! 🚀 As of this week, we're thrilled to announce that we've processed 500,000 tonnes of construction and demolition (C&D) waste at our Pinkenba facility, since reopening in January 2024. The construction of our monster multi-waste stream facility, completed last year, has been instrumental in our mission to RECLAIM, REFINE, and REUSE materials like C&D waste, concrete, clean fill, and non-destructive digging (NDD) waste. The fully integrated and automated plant has enabled us to set a new standard for efficiency and sustainability, and the impact that the new Rino recycling facility has had on the industries we work with has been significant: - The ability to process multiple waste materials from both a single source i.e shopping centre demolition or multiple source e.g. skip bins, provides our customers with an efficient solution when tendering their work. They don't have to account for multiple trucks and drivers all going to separate waste treatment sites. Rino provides a solution where all materials can be delivered to one. - Our civil customers benefit too. By providing both an inbound solution and a high-quality outbound material, they can drop off materials like clean fill from a road construction and leave with TMR-compliant roadbase—all without leaving our site. At Rino Recycling, our commitment to sustainability goes beyond the materials we recycle—it's embedded in how we operate and the values we uphold. #Sustainability #Recycling #Innovation #CircularEconomy #WasteManagement #Construction #Demolition #RinoRecycling https://lnkd.in/gD5GHU5X

Making a community decision for an on-site composting facility is not easy. In Bangalore, the BBMP Solid waste management bye-laws (2020) clearly spell out for whom an on-site composting facility is mandated. Yet, a FAQ asked of us from prospective customers is: What is the ROI (return on investment) for an on-site composting system? Embedded in the question is the premise that it is not the responsibility of an apartment to manage its own waste, and on-site composting is just an option. To answer this question, let us look at two other aspects of urban homes: (A) Most apartments have their own DG (Diesel Generator) as a backup whenever the city’s power supply provider shuts down power. Can we quantify the convenience (or ROI) of having backup power? Is it not the primary responsibility of the Electric Supply Company to provide un-interrupted power? Yet we opt for a DG. (B) Affordability: For processing and storing food we invest a lot in kitchen appliances, refrigerators etc. For a small fraction of that, we can invest in a community composting facility to compost food and kitchen waste. For over 10 years, Prudent Eco Systems has been manufacturing and installing the “Marigold” brand of community composting solutions. These provide an affordable, clean and natural way to convert food/kitchen waste into good quality compost. The attached video shows how an apartment with 180 homes has been composting waste for over 4 years. They also consume the compost and sell the excess to farmers. https://lnkd.in/gdYu_h-7

🚢 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 "𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞" 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 ♻ 🚢 In 1987, the Mobro "Garbage Barge" made headlines as it floated up and down the eastern seaboard carrying over 3,000 tons of trash, unable to find a place to dump the waste. 📆 After 5 long months of rejections and extensive travels, the waste was returned to NY where its infamous journey began. Eventually, the trash was incinerated in Brooklyn, with the ash buried in a landfill in Islip. 🚨This barge’s journey highlighted America’s waste management crisis and raised awareness about the growing need to rethink how we handle waste. The event sparked the country's initial steps toward waste minimization, further inspiring the recycling movement and laying groundwork for what would become #ZeroWaste initiatives. 🤔 So, how is the US doing today? While we've come a long way with advancements in recycling infrastructure, composting, and awareness of waste reduction, the path to true zero waste is still under construction. 📊 Currently, the US produces more waste per person than nearly any other country. However, growing focus on #CircularEconomy principles, corporate responsibility, and legislation for single-use #plastics shows promise in pushing the needle further. 📉 Did you know? The US still recycles only about 35% of its waste. Imagine how much further we could go if we took bold steps toward waste reduction and #recycling to meet the Zero Waste goal of 90% diversion! Let’s remember the legacy of the "Garbage Barge" by continuing to challenge ourselves to reduce waste, innovate new solutions, and commit to a sustainable future! 🌱 #ZeroWaste #CircularEconomy #ReduceReuseRecycle #GarbageBarge #NewYork #Brooklyn #Trash #WasteReduction

Our new facility is nearing completion, with the installation and commissioning of the primary tyre recycling line scheduled over the next two weeks thanks to the efforts of the on-site team from Danish industry leader ELDAN Recycling A/S. The ELDAN Recycling A/S plant is a state-of-the-art installation, turning waste tyres into crumb rubber, tyre derived products and reusable high tensile steel wire. The Neerabup facility will be a first for Australia to include a “pre-shredding” process to enable complete on-site recycling of the largest “Off The Road” (OTR) tyres of the type and size used on massive haul trucks across the mining industry. The company has also purchased advanced rubber moulding equipment to produce a range of high-value speciality rubber products, including acoustic underlay and a range of rubber matting suitable for soft-fall flooring, equestrian surfaces, farm matting, gym matting, load restraint matting and other uses. Where do used tyres end up? In a field near Longford, Tasmania, more than a million used tyres are stockpiled. Last year, the Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) revealed that 225,000 tonnes of used tyres ended up in landfill or were stockpiled or were illegally dumped. Despite Australia’s large tyre recycling industry, landfill is still an option — which is why illegal dumping is still so prevalent. Moving forward, Australia needs a more consistent regulatory framework to ensure unplanned or illegal tyre dumping in landfills. One way of ensuring Breyer continues “Sustainably Improving Homes & Communities” is by working with brilliant organisations like Community Wood Recycling (CWR). Our Breyer Renew team in Stevenage is one of our contracts making good use of CWR’s services, saving a little on the alternative cost of using skips and supporting a charity that brings real social value to the local community. Matt Charnley, Site Manager for Stevenage, comments on their involvement with CWR: “CWR offers a fantastic service that is very cost effective, especially as most timber such as fence panels is now classified as hazardous waste due to the treatments and paints used on them, which makes removal of them very costly. In Stevenage, we mainly use CWR to collect old fencing and pallets. We are also using them on our decarbonisation contract for B3 Living where we’re looking to get some planters built and perhaps a bench or two.” CWR has recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and, with it, some impressive statistics. The company collects good, reusable timber from construction sites (palettes, batons or other quality wood), and then prepares the best bits for reuse elsewhere; recycles other pieces into products or cuts smaller bits into firewood. This process has meant zero waste to landfill from the 244,020 tonnes of wood they have collected to date, averting the equivalent of 120,000 tonnes of CO2 and saving 388,000 gallons of diesel compared with that required by a skip lorry for the same amount of waste. #BreyerGroup #recycling #sustainability
