We are Australia's tyre product steward. We help drive sustainable outcomes for end-of-life tyres.
About us
This is the official LinkedIn page of Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA), the not-for-profit organisation established to deliver the national Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (TPSS) for Australia. TSA is currently funded by a voluntary levy from contributing tyre importers and auto brands who are committed to supporting sustainable outcomes for Australia’s end-of-life tyres. Our aim is to increase resource recovery and minimise the environmental, social and health risks associated with end-of-life tyres in Australia. TSA accredits over 1,700 participants across the tyre value chain, including tyre retailers, recyclers and collectors, local councils, fleet providers and manufacturers who are committed to supporting the objectives of the Scheme. TSA also invests in market development initiatives, including research and development of new productive uses for end-of-life tyres. Through innovation, new jobs and markets are created to develop Australia’s tyre recycling industry and accelerate our circular economy. Together, we are reinventing the wheel.

🚗 Exciting opportunity for a safer Bruce Highway upgrade, from Brisbane to Cairns! 🚗 Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) supports the Federal Government’s commitment to upgrading the Bruce Highway in Queensland. This vital infrastructure project will not only improve road safety but also create stronger connections between regional communities. Even better: this upgrade is a golden opportunity to help tackle Australia’s tyre waste crisis by using recycled tyres in the construction process. 🔄 Why is this important? Sustainability: Each kilometre of the Bruce Highway could use up to 2,400 used tyres, supporting our national resource recovery and circular economy goals. Durability: Crumb rubber in roads makes them more resilient to weather damage and cheaper to maintain. Safer roads: Roads made with crumb rubber are also less prone to cracking or potholes. 🏗️ Local impact: This upgrade provides an incredible chance for Queensland-based tyre recycling businesses to grow, innovate and create jobs - especially in regional areas. With 10 TSA Accredited businesses already in the state, we can use the valuable tyre-derived material they produce to boost the local economy and help support sustainable outcomes. Let's keep this momentum going and push for government to always use recycled tyres in roads. Support the shift to recycled rubber roads and help Queensland lead the way in creating a circular economy for Australia's used tyres 🌍 Reach out to us to find out how: www.tyrestewardship.org.au #BruceHighwayUpgrade #TyreRecycling #SustainableInfrastructure #CircularEconomy #UsedTyres #QueenslandRoads #Innovation

Research Institute for Northern Agriculture Charles Darwin University PhD student Wesley van Zanden was on the ABC Country Hour today talking about his PhD project looking at enabling pastoralists on remote cattle stations to recycle more of their inorganic waste - e.g. tyres, plastic piping, engine oil etc. He's looking at opportunities for them to recycle more. Wes is working with Deepika Mathur and myself, Tyre Stewardship Australia and other industry partners. https://lnkd.in/gCqmvhSy from about 40 mins in!

Tyre Stewardship Australia is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sam Visaisouk. Sam’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment has left an indelible mark on the tyre industry and beyond. Sam’s legacy will continue to prevail as we all work together to find more innovative and sustainable solutions. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Sam’s family, friends, and the Tyromer Inc. team during this difficult time.
It is with immense sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Tyromer Inc. CEO Sam Visaisouk. Sam was a compassionate leader, visionary, friend, dedicated family member, and above all else, simply one of the good guys. He wanted to make the world a better place and left a lasting impact and impression on those who knew him. Sam started his journey with Tyromer over 15 years ago, and through his efforts and vision, the company has scaled up and progressed to where it is today. Sam had incredible positive energy and truly valued the personal and business relationships that he developed. There is no doubt Sam will be dearly missed, and we cherish the fond memories of our time together. 2025 will undoubtedly be a year of transition for Tyromer. Thankfully, Sam has given the company a solid foundation to build on as we enter the next phase of business. He wanted us to continue to expand the Tyromer footprint and make the largest positive impact possible. While there is no fully replacing Sam, his own son Jon Visaisouk will take over duties as CEO. At the same time, Tyromer Europe has also welcomed Frans Ghijsen as their new CEO. As the Tyromer family grieves for Sam, we all look forward to carrying on his legacy and contributing to a greener future for all of us. May his dream live on forever. Rest in Peace. ❤️

Melbourne weather: 40 degrees one day, a torrential downpour the next. Thankfully, this permeable pavement made from end-of-life tyres is as adaptable as our four-seasons-in-a-day climate! By transforming used tyres into permeable pavement, Porous Lane is managing stormwater, reducing urban heat islands, and giving recycled tyres a second life. It’s a brilliant example of how innovation can keep valuable materials out of landfill while helping our city to withstand the challenges of a changing climate. Proof that even tyres can bounce back.
From 40 degrees 🥵 the last two days to 16 and pouring rain 🌧️ today in Melbourne. Porous Lane is driven to contribute to climate resilient cities with our permeable pavement made out of local waste tyres. ♻️ 🅿️ The carpark in the video (filmed this morning) was installed with our permeable pavement two years ago. As you can see, the pavement allows water to seep through, significantly reducing surface runoff and the risk of flash flooding. 🌧️💧 Permeable pavement not only helps manage stormwater effectively but also contributes to recharging groundwater levels while supporting urban trees 🌳. It's a sustainable solution that can make a big difference in urban areas prone to flooding. ☀️🔥 On hot days like yesterday, this permeable pavement it's reducing heat islands🥵. Want to know more? Tyre Stewardship Australia stands with the EPA in urging businesses to remain cautious of unauthorised operators offering discounted waste tyre transport services. The actions of these illegal operators are disappointing and have severe consequences for our environment, communities, and businesses doing the right thing. 💡 The facts speak for themselves: Local governments spent $6.5 million cleaning up dumped tyres last year alone. Improper disposal creates fire hazards, attracts vermin, and poses a direct risk to our environment and public health. The cost of cleaning up large stockpiles could reach $23.3 million – a burden on taxpayers and communities that shouldn't exist. We call on businesses to: 🔒 Engage authorised transporters for tyre removal and disposal. 🚫 Refuse to work with operators who compromise our industry and environment. Illegal operators undermine the good work being done by responsible businesses and the broader industry. Together, we must hold them accountable and ensure waste tyres are managed safely, ethically, and responsibly. #TyreStewardship #NoToIllegalDumping #ResponsibleWasteManagement #CircularEconomy #EnvironmentalProtection #EPA
Be cautious of illegal tyre disposal services 🚨 We are urging businesses to be vigilant about cold callers offering waste tyre transport services at discounted rates. Regional businesses across SA are being targeted, and there are concerns that tyres are being disposed of illegally. 💡 Why it matters: - Waste tyres are considered controlled waste and can pose significant risks to the community if not properly disposed of. - Improper disposal can lead to fire hazards and attract disease-carrying pests like mosquitoes and vermin. 🔒 Key points: - Only engage authorised waste transporters for tyre removal and disposal. - The penalties for illegal tyre transport can be as high as $120,000, and $250,000 for illegal disposal. 🚨 If you encounter these individuals or have concerns, contact us at 1800 623 445 or via email at yourepa@sa.gov.au. #EPA #TyreDisposal #WasteManagement #EnvironmentalProtection #IllegalWasteDisposal #SA

The Australian Government’s primary approach to #productstewardship over the past 25 years has been to encourage producers to voluntarily take responsibility for the socio-environmental impacts of their products rather than to regulate producer responsibility. Unfortunately, this approach is not helping to deliver the government’s environmental and resource management objectives with only one of the seven targets for the National Waste Policy Action Plan to be met by 2030. 'Investing in Intelligent Regulation' is the Centre’s latest white paper which outlines why regulated product stewardship has strong economic advantages over voluntary approaches and the allocation of government grants. Specifically, the paper provides evidence why regulated product stewardship is especially effective in: - Stimulating investment: Regulation provides incentives for private sector investment, including in more challenging economic conditions. - Ensuring that the investment is efficient: Well-designed regulation ensures that investment is aligned with the long-term interests of the community, promoting long-run economic efficiency. - Driving productivity and competitiveness: Regulation provides incentives for innovation and technological growth, driving productivity and competitiveness. By looking at long-term, whole-of-community objectives, regulation: - provides an effective driver to invest - avoids imbalances in investment - ensures that the investment is efficient over time - provides certainty to inform corporate decision-making - underpins productivity and competitiveness - accelerates innovation diffusion providing benefits to current and future generations Regulation does not need to be onerous or highly prescriptive to harness these benefits. Provided it is well-designed, proportionate, provides an impetus for action and certainty for investment while balancing triple-bottom line objectives, it will be effective, efficient and position our economy for long-run success. Intelligent #regulation also provides a pivotal intervention that can break the current cycle of privatising profits while socialising the true cost of the environmental and human health #impacts of products and packaging. "If we don't assign responsibility, it's just more of the same," says John Gertsakis from Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence. At next week’s Environment Ministers' Meeting, we urge The Hon Tanya Plibersek and Australia's State & Territory Environment Ministers to progress stronger regulations and policies that will achieve much better outcomes for Australia's used tyres. Listen to the Think: Sustainability podcast to hear how a fully regulated product stewardship scheme can help tackle the 550,000 tonnes of used tyres generated annually in Australia. Expert guests John Gertsakis from Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence, Paul Randell from Randell Environment Consulting, and Dr Linda Mitchell from Tyre Stewardship Australia discuss how collaboration between industry, government, and consumers can drive the shift towards a circular economy, reducing waste and creating a more sustainable future. John Gertsakis: “We can only go so far with voluntary approaches to product stewardship...” Paul Randell: “We all pay for this inefficiency...” Linda Mitchell: “We’ve done a lot with a voluntary scheme, but there’s (still) a long way to go to fix this challenge.” Tune in to the full episode to hear how product stewardship is paving the way for lasting environmental impact: https://lnkd.in/e37HAmrM Sam Loy | Lawrence B.| 2ser | John Gertsakis | RANDELL ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTING | Tanya Plibersek | Steve Dimopoulos | ROGER JAENSCH | Penny Sharpe | Kate Worden.
