Very much looking forward to the launch of this collaboration - the shared vision and ambition was simple - exploring practical and implementable solutions to the social rent housing crisis - its been incredible to work with so many experts and partners all committed to the same sense of purpose. My own view is that there are real solutions to the UK's structural deficit in social rent housing - what is now needed is a co-ordinated multi agency partnership and strong leadership around credible plans. Whilst we are not suggesting the playbook is a panacea to the wider housing crisis (far from it) we are clear that an ecosystem approach that works within the realities of our current restraints (land/ supply chains / planning / funding) and clearly maps the roles and responsibilities of different partners to bring shared leadership is an important and critical step to urgently increase more social rent housing and start to address the Temporary Accommodation challenges facing local government - a human and economic emergency. We look forward to acting together at pace.
We're delighted to launch our collaborative 'Social Rent Housing at Pace: The MMC Playbook' on May 9th at #UKConstructionWeek! The Playbook draws on insights, ideas and case studies from 25 authors and more than sixty public, private, academic and third-sector organisations and stakeholders. It is a strategic tool for local authorities facing the human and economic cost of the current housing crisis and presents an ecosystem solution with three essential components: 🏘 Build homes in a new way 🔓 Unlock unlikely land 💷 Recalibrate the economics Find out more: https://lnkd.in/dnYq3yQA AtkinsRéalis Akerlof Bristol City Council Building Better Changing Futures EDAROTH UK Futureground Goscombe Group Haringey Council HTA Design LLP Justlife Foundation Morris+Company Mott MacDonald Offsite Alliance Off-Site Homes Alliance (OSHA) Planning Portal RCKa SimplyPhi | B Corp South West Procurement Alliance (SWPA) TerraQuest The Urbanists Ward Williams Associates Wiltshire Council ZED PODS Limited Well done to our Housing Festival team for all their work pulling this together! Last week, APG team member Kristie Berlin joined industry leaders at the Social & Affordable Housing Lunch hosted by the Property Council of Australia at The Fullerton Hotel Sydney. Key discussions cantered around Treasury’s record-breaking $6.6B funding boost to social housing and how these funds can drive real change. Initiatives included: - Building strategic industry partnerships for socially and economically diverse communities. - Prioritising large-scale pipelines to maximise value for money over procurement of smaller projects. - Encouraging a cultural shift in perceptions of social housing to foster long-term progress. It’s an exciting time for the Social & Affordable Housing sector, and we’re optimistic about the road ahead. What do you think is the most important change needed in social housing? 🤔 #SocialHousing #CommunityImpact #AffordableLiving #UrbanDevelopment #APG #APGNSW

Supporting Housing Associations In response to the Social Housing Act, landlords and housing associations face increasing pressure to elevate the standards of their existing housing stock. MMC BARRIERS & BENEFITS: WHAT DO HOUSING ASSOCIATIONS REALLY THINK? Our survey of MMC delivery in the social housing sector, run by Building Better and the National Housing Federation uncovered some interesting views: BENEFITS 💡 Unsurprisingly, the 57 housing associations we surveyed ranked environmental sustainability and achieving the Future Homes Standard highest BARRIERS 💡 Predictably, supplier vulnerability was noted as the most significant hurdle to scaling up MMC delivery 💡 But in the past, procurement and finding the right manufacturing partners to work with have been challenges for housing associations, as has loan securitisation. However, results show that the sector no longer sees either as significant issues 💡 Big thanks to our procurement partner, Procurement for Housing who’ve worked really hard with us to remove many of the common #procurement headaches for our members We think these findings indicate the sector is maturing and grappling with the practicalities of MMC delivery. Download the full report here: https://lnkd.in/ev5ZmAQD 👉The State of MMC Delivery survey will run every year. If you’d like to take part, get in touch at info@buildingbetter.org.uk Our next survey will open in summer 2024. As National Social Housing Safety and Compliance week comes to a close, NFA Managing Director Eamon McGoldrick discusses lessons from the Grenfell Inquiry. Good governance lies at the heart of compliance and as the new regime of landlord inspection gathers pace, Eamon warns that the Regulator of Social Housing will expect nothing less than concrete evidence of objective oversight, regular review and continuous improvement, whether homes are managed by council ALMOs, directly from local authorities, or by housing associations. Read Eamon’s thoughts on the essential ingredients of good governance – first published on the HQN website – here: https://lnkd.in/dRiRyNXG Enrolment is now open for HQN’s 'Effective Governance in Local Authority' Housing, 23 January 2025, with contributions from Eamon and Amanda Garrard, Chief Officer of NFA member Berneslai Homes – the ALMO at Barnsley Council which became the first local authority to win the Regulator’s top C1 grading. https://lnkd.in/dtQ8zT2c

🏘️ The New Homes Accelerator hit squad has sprung into action! 🦸 Headed by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, the New Homes Accelerator team is set to unblock 200 large housing sites that are currently stalled by planning issues. This initiative should fast-track the construction of much needed homes across the UK and increase the need for on site labour, giving a boost to the industry. With sites such as Stretton Hall and Biggleswade Garden Community, this should be good news for the industry. 📈🏗️ To read more about the plans, click the link in the comments below. 🔗⬇️ #Housing #Construction #NewHomesAccelerator #UK
