CCU NEWS I The European Innovation Council’s Tech Report 2023 Recognises CCU as One of the Topics of Interest and Part of Its Portfolio   In its latest “Tech Report” the European Innovation Council (EIC) recognised Carbon Capture and Utilisation (#CCU) as one of the topics of interest and part of its portfolio. The report also states “For Carbon Capture and Utilisation, CO2 Value Europe – an international and non-profit organisation - unites the respective communities.”   The Tech Report 2023 aims to provide a robust analysis of the EIC’s current portfolio of activity by highlighting novel technologies and innovations submitted to the EIC under Horizon Europe, with an emphasis on early-stage research projects funded following independent expert review.   The second part of the report complements the analysis and provides the perspective of the 10 EIC Programme Managers on parts of their portfolio. That exercise takes into account the potential of some of the relevant technologies identified in the first part of the report and provides an overview of EIC activity and wider trends alongside insights on gaps and/or other barriers that may need to be overcome.   EIC is a European Commission initiative and part of the #HorizonEurope program established as a flagship initiative to identify, develop and scale up emerging deep technologies and breakthrough innovations.   Find the EIC Tech Report 2023 at https://shorturl.at/imwEI. Meet the Danish watertech startup EWA Sensors 👋 EWA Sensors supplies monitoring technology for, among other things, water pumps. China is focusing and investing heavily in the green transition including water technology EWA Sensors has collaborated closely with DigitalLead and Innovation Centre Denmark, Shanghai met with potential Chinese partners through a tour facilitated by Innovation Centre Denmark. This happened as part of the project SDG Landing Pad in which DigitalLead and Innovation Centre Denmark, Shanghai collaborated closely to match Danish solutions with international opportunities. Without revealing too much, we can say that EWA Sensors has sold devices to a Chinese partner and is right now testing the solution further. If successful, EWA Sensors will have a product validated for the Chinese market and can begin searching for a distributor to expand sales in China. Finnish startup Colloidtek (Collo), based in Tampere, has successfully raised €5 million in a funding round to expand its innovative technology globally. This technology focuses on optimizing industrial liquid processes, particularly in the food and beverage industry, to enhance sustainability and efficiency by reducing costs, emissions, and waste. Founded in 2017, Collo develops IoT analyzers that provide real-time measurements of industrial fluids. These analyzers use electromagnetic fields and IoT technology to determine the chemical composition and physical properties of liquids, such as sedimentation or contamination. This capability allows manufacturers to optimize their processes, resulting in significant reductions in raw material losses, water usage, and CO2 emissions. For instance, a typical medium-sized dairy plant can lose up to 8 million liters of raw milk annually due to inadequate process control. Collo's technology can significantly mitigate these losses, saving up to 11 million kilos of CO2 emissions and 35 million liters of clean water. Matti Järveläinen, Collo’s Co-founder and CEO, said: “The global food and beverage industry is going through a significant transformation driven by climate change, rising demand for sustainable operations, and increasing environmental regulation. Major market leaders have established strategic priorities to cut emissions by half by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. All savings are realised through process optimisation using existing infrastructure. Any processing company can implement Collo analysers to bring their plants to the IoT era and make their processes sustainable without a need for large investments in new production lines.” The €5 million investment was co-led by SEB Greentech Venture Capital and Dutch investor FORWARD.one, with participation from existing investor Scale Capital. This funding will enable Collo to scale its operations and expand its market presence globally. The company's analyzers are already being used by major global food and beverage companies like Fonterra, Danone, and Valio, which have reported substantial improvements in efficiency and sustainability. #energytheory #funding #startup #sustainability

Continuum Composite Recycling has developed a new technology that can transform composite waste into recyclable products for buildings and thus make the construction industry more sustainable. TEGnology ApS has developed a technology that directly converts heat into electricity while eliminating CO2 emissions and the need for complex chemical reactions or moving parts. All three Danish startups have gained a foothold in the Chinese market where Danish green solutions are in high demand. Communication is always a key aspect of every innovation process. You can develop the best technologies, but there is no value if you don't communicate. We need to give more space to positive news and solutions that can contribute positively to our planet and our society.
