🚢 Ports of Stockholm, in collaboration with the RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Torghatten, Zeabuz, DNV, and Vattenbussen, are pioneering the future of urban maritime transport with the "Policy Lab Urban Zjöfart" project. This innovative initiative focuses on the safety and feasibility of autonomous ferries in Stockholm. 📅 This project leverages a real-world case study in Riddarfjärden to gather crucial data on the transition from manned to autonomous ferries. It aims to improve the frequency and punctuality of ferry services, benefiting travelers, particularly cyclists and pedestrians. 🔍 The role of Ports of Stockholm is central to this project, collaborating on the testing and development of safety protocols. The findings will contribute to ongoing international policy discussions by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), positioning Stockholm as a leader in maritime innovation and sustainability. 🌍 This initiative not only aims to revolutionize urban mobility in Stockholm but also to enhance its regulatory and commercial standing in the global maritime industry. By developing safe and efficient autonomous ferry services, Stockholm Ports is setting a new standard for sustainable urban transport. 🔗 For more information you can take a look at SOM-INN PORT’s Observatory through the following link: https://lnkd.in/dbRGrnN8 SOM-INN PORT <> Port Tarragona

Great to see Maritime ITS projects like this. Today, road traffic/transport is very dominant within ITS, but I'm sure Maritime ITS has an important role to play to solve urban mobility challenges, considering that many big cities have access to (possible) waterways.

For as long as public transport has existed, Dutch people have complained about it. Yet our public transport is well organised in many areas, according to researcher Niels van Oort. The focus of his research is on searching for an optimal design for the public transport system, including the modalities used to and from the public transport stop, which in the Netherlands is usually the bicycle. The trick is to design a collective, sustainable, inclusive, and efficient system that meets everyone’s individual needs. Each traveller has different wishes, ideas, and mobility patterns, and this plays out in a country where space is very limited and public transport operators also face staffing shortages. [European Mobility Week – Ep. 1] 👉 How are Regional Metropolitan Express Services reshaping the future of public transport and contributing to decarbonized mobility? 🌍🚍🌿 In December 2023, the French Parliament passed a law concerning Regional Metropolitan Express Services (french acronym: SERMs). This law outlines the development of multimodal service offerings in major urban areas to achieve two main objectives: improving accessibility and connecting underserved regions while reducing transportation emissions. 🎥 On the occasion of European Mobility Week, join Benoit Guillot, Transport Socio-Economist, and Frédéric BIRER, Railway Operations Engineer, as they explore how this new multimodal transport offering addresses regional mobility needs. 📕 To learn more on SERMs, check out our position paper on the matter: https://lnkd.in/erKpsxvf Preliminary studies, development of multimodal exchange hubs, adaptation of technical systems… With its diverse expertise in governance, operations, and financing, Egis plays a crucial role in shaping these projects. 🚀

The theme of the 19th World Conference Cities and Ports will be: 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬: 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 🗓 27-30 November 2024 📍 Lisbon, Portugal Piers are the ultimate interface between land and water. They are also the connection between port cities and the planet. Historically, their accessibility was a metaphor for the evolution of the port-city relationship. They changed from being accessible in the past, to gradually become off limits. Fortunately, there is a tendency to give back this access and reopen the piers for the people, inaugurating a new kind of port-city relationship. . But how permeable are these relationships today? What flows are shaping these interactions? How are port cities presenting local answers to global trends? What bridges? And how are ports reopening their piers? 👉 To stay up to date fill in the form of interest: https://swll.to/Asfdtt 🔗 https://swll.to/IL2via

🌟 Exciting developments are underway at the Port of Linz under the dynamic leadership of Director Harald Kronsteiner! With the support of the EU-backed "Project Neuland," the port has undergone a remarkable modernization, including expanding the container terminal to 6,500 TEU. Construction for flood protection is in full swing, scheduled for completion by summer 2025. Despite challenges, such as an 8% drop in container throughput in 2022-2023 due to global economic challenges, the port is resilient and bouncing back in early 2024. 🚢✨ 🚧 Additionally, the introduction of new rail connections to key European cities is propelling the port's status as a logistics hub to new heights, with even more routes on the horizon! 🚆💼 Curious about ANTS-IN's expansion plans and the incredible developments happening? On May 7th and 8th, the CLARION Project (Climate Resilient Port Infrastructure) was kicked off in Rotterdam and Delft. The project aims to enhance the resilience and sustainability of European ports in response to climate-related challenges. CLARION will pursue ambitious objectives to increase the operational availability of port infrastructures during extreme events, reducing accidents caused by climate-related disruptions, and undertaking 10 pilots to test and deploy advanced technologies and strategies. Funded under the Horizon Europe Programme (Project 101147041), CLARION brings together a multidisciplinary team of 21 partners from 10 European countries, featuring the top-3 ports in Europe in terms of container throughput: Rotterdam, Port of Antwerp-Bruges and Port of Hamburg in the North Sea and the largest European port in the Black Sea: Constanta Port. The project is in line with the European Commission's EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change and the European Green Deal.
