44.01: The #Oman startup turning CO2 into stone to combat climate change 44.01 is making strides in #carbon #sequestration with a process designed to permanently trap carbon dioxide beneath the Earth’s surface. Apollo Projects, the investment fund operated by Sam and Jack Altman, has significantly backed 44.01, providing essential funding. Additionally, the startup secured $37 million in a Series A funding round led by Equinor Ventures, with Shorooq Partners from the #UAE participating. The round is led alongside Equinor Ventures ALIAD Venture Capital by Air Liquide, Alumni Ventures, Planet A Ventures, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation – SMBC Group and several other investors. Existing investors including Breakthrough Energy Ventures have also recommitted to 44.01’s technology by participating in the round. The fundraise reflects confidence in the potential of 44.01’s mineralisation technology to eliminate CO2 safely, permanently and at scale. AirMyne, a greentech startup is developing next-generation Direct Air Capture technology to extract CO2 from the atmosphere. Their approach is designed to work with a variety of renewable energy sources, such as waste heat produced by heavy industry and geothermal energy, and it just requires inexpensive, readily available system inputs. The money will be used by the company to grow both its operations and growth initiatives. AirMyne, a greentech firm, is headed by CEO Sudip Mukhopadhyay and Mark Cyffka with the goal of reducing the effects of climate change. ⚡Orus Energy raises €2.2M to improve energy flexibility in CRE, with their AI-driven electrical flexibility platform. The French startup, founded by Théophile KARILA, Fanny Sauvée and Alexandre Girard in 2023, is revolutionising the way buildings interact with electricity markets. By optimising the aggregated flexibility of numerous buildings, Orus’ software dynamically adjusts energy usage, shifting it to times when electricity is cheapest and greenest, providing valuable flexibility to the electricity grid. The round was led by European VC firm b2venture and French impact funds Asterion Ventures and Ring Capital. The round also attracted several angel investors, including Pierre Trémolières (Accenta.ai) and Myriam Maestroni (Fonds e5t). The funding will be used to accelerate the company’s deployment and product development, and help build out its 20-person core team by the end of 2025 to meet customer demand.
