Not just one, but two Regio Deals have secured funding, totaling over 42 million euros! 🎉   The central government has earmarked €25 million for Smart Delta Drechtsteden and €17.7 million for the Waterweg Region, making Resilient Delta a proud partner in both Regio Deals. These funds are aimed at improving the quality of life and working conditions in the cities concerned, including Gemeente Dordrecht, Gemeente Zwijndrecht, Gemeente Papendrecht, Gemeente Rotterdam, Gemeente Maassluis, Gemeente Schiedam, Gemeente Vlaardingen. Gemeente Alblasserdam, Gemeente Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Gemeente Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, and Gemeente Sliedrecht This joint effort brings together local governments, businesses, schools, and the community, united around a shared vision of progress. This success marks a significant milestone for us, underscoring our belief in the transformative power of transdisciplinary collaboration to create enduring change. Collaboration at Scale!!! I had the pleasure of taking part in the BusinessLDN Meet the Deputy Mayors Roundtable with Mete Coban MBE Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy today. Some highlights include: - Social justice is being considered for all of London in line with London's growth plans - London's waterways are going to be a new focus for creating a healthy and biodiverse city - Businesses should capitalise on the net zero / clean energy transition - We cannot rely on small initiatives and need to co-produce and co-design a greener fairer London - New funds are coming forth to drive low carbon outcomes at scale across multiple boroughs -Climate resilience needs to be built into the wider plans - Skills and capacity building needs to take shape at scale - District energy and retrofit plans should also consider low energy solutions such as Passive House (Passivhaus) It was great to hear that the environment, green innovation and clean energy are central to the Greater London Authority growth plans, with collaboration between businesses, industry and community taking centre stage to realise the cities net zero and climate resilience. Collaboration and co creation are central also to the Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability mission and UEL's careers first and business partnership approach. I often get asked if hub is a framework. My answer is no - we are far more sophisticated than a framework. We are a public sector owned development partner, invested in a long-term relationship with public sector participants rather than a simple framework that operates on a project by project call off. This partnering approach enables long term strategic policy agendas to be set and delivered on whilst refining project delivery on a continuous improvement basis. We don't just have a list of contractors that we "call off" from. We require our construction partners to invest in our established forums across affordable housing, sustainability, construction/ design & quality, and Social Value as to develop and get better at what we all do collectively. An example of this is below. All our Tier 1A construction partners involved in a workshop with our participant North Lanarkshire Council to discuss lessons learnt, continuous improvements and areas of focus from the projects developed and delivered to date across the sizeable North Lanarkshire Council education estate programme. Our Development Managers and Construction Managers are heavily involved in taking this learning and refining our approach. We also capture this learning and feed this to all our participants via our territory partnering board whilst identifying aspects to address in our forums and Social Value build programmes. Bristol & Bath Regional Capital is fortunate enough to be an advisory on Mission Net Zero, an ambitious project supported by funding from Innovate UK to make Bristol a more sustainable and inclusive city while supporting Bristol’s One City Climate Change ambition of becoming carbon neutral and climate resilient by 2030. On Thursday, I travelled to Cardiff to meet with other cities from around the country that have received Innovate UK funding to understand the different approaches they were undertaking to help their places and businesses accelerate to Net Zero. 🌍 One of the sessions focussed on the barriers to the finance needed to meet each location's net-zero goals, with some interesting discussion from both the public and private sectors from each location. Some points I walked away with are: ✨There needs to be increased engagement and conversation between both the public and private sectors to ensure that the private sector is able to structure their business growth plans in a way that complements incoming policies. This was highlighted as key for businesses working in innovation. ✨There was a huge demand for a centralised platform to allow businesses to view all the current government tenders in one place with emphasis on the need to have a nationally adopted template for these applications. ✨Many of the organisations raised the need for support in accessing growth finance for their net-zero product or service to support their scaling and intended impact in their place. This was key for those companies that have received grant funding in the past and have proof of concept.
