Play Games. Get Hired.

Algorithms to match people and jobs are getting more sophisticated. I tested Pymetrics' solution, which is being beta tested and found out that I have an excellent fit for venture capital and investment management. Great! Unfortunately the system currently offers an equity research associate intern job at Fidelity Investments as my best bet ! Jokes aside, I was impressed by the ambitious goal to measure cognitive, social and emotional traits and skills using games. I went through 12, at times really challenging, tasks to create my reports, ranging from facial expression emotional recognition (it turns out I did not learn much from watching all the Lie To Me episodes) to altruistic behavioral tests, from memory challenges to attention and distraction exercises.

In the last few months I also used the StandOut assessment (I am a "Pioneer and a Provider" there) and the eCareerFit (I am "highly visionary and people oriented" based on this test) tools, which are very useful to get to know your strengths and best fit for jobs. Pymetric goes a few steps beyond building an interesting platform to leverage LinkedIn information (to build the profiles) and an algorithm to match the personal traits emerging from the games results with the jobs and sectors of the participating companies.

It is a very interesting example of the intersection of neurosciences, gamification, social media and e-recruitment.

Giuseppe, are you familiar with the book Now, Discover Your Strengths by Marcus Buckingham, Donald O. Clifton? it has a very interesting frame work to identify leadership traits. And it has a test too. Take a look if you are in testing mode!
