🌍✨ On the eve of the International Women's Day, i was thrilled to deliver the keynote speech at the "Women in Transport" gathering in Harare, Zimbabwe, in celebration of the International Women's Day! My message centered on the importance of gender diversity in the transport sector—not just as a matter of fairness, but as a catalyst for progress. Diverse teams drive innovation, enhance efficiency, and are better equipped to tackle the challenges of our rapidly evolving world. I also highlighted the incredible efforts the International Civil Aviation Organization is making to champion gender equality in aviation through initiatives like the ICAO Gender Equality Programme and the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) Programme. A special thank you to my gracious host, Eng Joy Pedzisai Makumbe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development for Zimbabwe for setting the tone with her insightful and witty remarks on whether "etiquette could be holding you back." The event was enriched by the inspiring personal stories of resilience and battling great odds, shared by young women of Zimbabwe. It was truly an enjoyable afternoon filled with motivation and empowerment. I was accompanied to the function, by a great team of ladies from the ICAO Eastern and Southern African Regional Office, Keziah Ogutu, Chinga Gwiza-Mazhetese and Irene Muriuki Thank you, Zimbabwe, for such a warm welcome! Let’s continue to advocate for gender diversity and make strides together. 💪🌟 #InternationalWomensDay #WomenInTransport #GenderEquality #ICAO #NextGenAviationProfessionals #Empowerment #womeninAviation

Secretary General at the International Civil Aviation Organization

**Shaping the Future of International Aviation** Since its establishment in 1944, the International Civil Aviation Organization has played a central role in guiding the evolution of international civil aviation. As we enter a transformative era marked by both challenges and opportunities, ICAO has developed a *Long-Term Strategic Plan for 2026-2050* to ensure the orderly growth of global aviation, which I am pleased to Share. This plan comes at a decisive moment. Air traffic is accelerating, requiring enhanced facilitation measures, while new, highly automated aircraft are on the horizon, demanding seamless and safe integration into an increasingly complex airspace. At the same time, security and cybersecurity threats continue to evolve, necessitating proactive and coordinated responses. The clean energy transition also presents an opportunity to reshape aviation’s foundation, moving towards a more sustainable future. As ICAO supports its Member States in maintaining the highest safety and operational standards, we must also anticipate and prepare for the future of air transport. Together, we are committed to ensuring a *safer, more secure, economically viable, efficient, and environmentally sustainable* aviation sector.
