I am a Board-certified psychiatrist, and I really enjoy the "therapy" portion of my profession, and continue to believe that the combined use of psychotherapy and medication (if indicated) by one caregiver is the most successful way to help people feel better and do more of what they want. My approach is eclectic but primarily involves supportive psychotherapy. Currently, I am working virtually via Facetime, Zoom or phone, but I am thinking of including in-person meetings, if you or others tell me that it is preferred. I really believe it works better.

I believe that all beings have the ability for growth, emotional awareness, and healing should we simply offer space to explore our emotional experience in a safe and empowering environment. Utilizing play therapy techniques, my main specialties with children include support through challenges with grief & loss (incl. parental divorce), boundaries & defiance, emotional sensitivity, fears & anxiety, difficulty with transitions, and self-confidence. For teens & young adults, I utilize an emotion-focused and mindfulness-based approach to support with challenges such as anxiety & depression, relationships, self-esteem, and identity.

I have worked with clients who struggle with depression, anxiety/ trauma, insomnia, bipolar, etc. I look for patterns and evaluate systemic factors to assess sources of internal distress. Collaborating as a guide and creating safety is my main initial focus. At New Pathways, we also offer integrative healthcare services through psychiatric care using conventional medication and natural supplements for treating mental health. Studies show the best outcomes when utilizing both psychotherapy and medication management.

As a Therapist, I am knowledgeable, trustworthy, and kind. I view each person I meet as a unique individual with their own goals, needs, and desires. One thing that can be helpful is having a nonjudgmental person to talk to who actually understands and cares. I want to be that person for you, whom you can open up to and trust, who will show you compassion and empathy in your darkest hours and hardest struggles. I believe that you are the master of your own life but I am here to help you find the path to happiness and healing.

As a mom of two littles, I recognize the struggle of modern parenthood, and the solitude in which many parents find themselves. It is difficult to be the whole village raising children. There is also a sense of putting the needs of children and family before yourself, losing your identity in the process. I aim to help parents balance their identity and needs with the needs of their families.

I have a very deep respect for your interest in seeking therapy. It is an honest and brave way to move towards growth. One of my favorite quotes is by Carl Jung: "who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes." Our sessions will be a collaborative exploration of your physical state, thoughts, and emotions to help you find some clarity, direction and healing. I aim for change to be deeper than our thoughts. It needs to be felt and integrated. I use Polyvagal theory and EFT/Tapping to inform the psychological work that we will embark on together.

Your life has become a redundant pattern. In many ways, you feel numb. Your daily routine has become structured around meeting the needs for others and you have become disconnected from your own. You have experienced trauma and feel misunderstood by others. The patterns of these traumatic events appear to be reoccurring in the present day and you wonder how much longer you can carry the weight of this pain. Maybe you started to feel like this recently or maybe this has been ongoing for years, either way, you’re ready for a change. You aspire to feel empowered, gain self-worth, and to regain control.

In therapy, we learn to see ourselves more clearly through identifying our strengths and weaknesses with more openess, curiousity, and less judgement. It's through this compassionate and conscious way of relating to ourselves that we can begin to make wiser decisions for ourselves and our relationships. In my 34 years of practice, I have worked with individuals, couples, families and groups. After working in a hospital system for many years, I'm very comfortable working with people with chronic illness, depression and loss. I've also been dedicated to helping women around body image issues and transitions.

I work with deep feeling souls who are dedicated to social change & who struggle with trauma, grief, anxiety & depression. Does this sound familiar? You feel ALL the feels & deeply long for intimacy, yet guard your heart because your vulnerability has been weaponized against you in the past. You feel trapped in quicksand, holding the weight of the world. Emotions feel all-encompassing because the world hurts & you can’t fix it. You are here to fulfill your life’s purpose, yet your voice feels swallowed by the noise. You no longer need to search. You are not alone. You are right where you need to be!

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
