Congratulations to AGL's Loy Yang A on reaching an incredible milestone – 40 years of operation in Gippsland! For over four decades, AGL has played a crucial role not only in powering Victoria but also in driving job creation and supporting the growth and wellbeing of Gippsland communities. Since 2015, AGL has proudly served as a member of the Committee for Gippsland, further strengthening its commitment to our region.

Today, the Australian Parliament passed the landmark legislation to establish the Net Zero Economy Authority (the Authority). This independent statutory body will help drive Australia’s transition to a net zero emissions economy, benefiting workers, regions, and communities across the country. The Authority will: 👷♀️ Support workers impacted by coal plant closures with $44.4M over 4 years 📜 Develop Regional Worker Transition Plans funded with $134.2M to provide skills and job support 🏭 Drive investment in emissions-intensive regions for new opportunities 🗨 Engage First Nations communities in the transition. This is a critical step towards achieving Net Zero by 2050. Offshore wind will be central to Gippsland’s new energy transition. Not only will offshore wind drive jobs and employment opportunities, increase regional investment, boost Victoria’s manufacturing and supply chains, but will also help Australia reach our net zero goals. Pleased to have Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy, the Hon Chris Bowen and Senator for Victoria, Dr. Jess Walsh, join us to launch the Gippsland Offshore Wind Alliance at the Gippsland New Energy Conference. We appreciate the Minister and Senator coming to the region to see and hear Gippsland’s positive approach to realising the offshore wind opportunities, creating partnerships with Traditional Owners, developing skills and education pathways, enabling supply chains, and hearing from current coal workers on their interest in transitioning across to the offshore wind industry. The Alliance focus is to encourage a local offshore wind industry that proactively engages with local communities, realises job and other economic opportunities, involves local suppliers and creates a positive legacy for Gippsland. Gippsland will be the exemplar to other regions undergoing transition through delivering an offshore wind sector for Australia. Excited to have Committee for Gippsland, Darren McCubbin and the Gippsland Climate Change Network Inc. team joining forces with the Gippsland offshore wind proponents to progress these opportunities through the Alliance. (GCCN) have joined forces with Gippsland offshore wind proponents to officially launch the Gippsland Offshore Wind Alliance (the Alliance) at the 2024 Gippsland New Energy Conference. Gippsland education and training providers are gearing up to get locals upskilled for jobs in offshore wind. Offshore wind is set to create thousands of local jobs for local people with a range of experiences and skills. We’re proud to be working with partners like TAFE Gippsland and Federation University Australia to ensure training meets worker and industry needs. ICYMI - here's a few recently announced local initiatives: ⚡ Federation University Churchill announced the development of a state-of-the-art Asia Pacific Renewable Energy Training Centre to support the need for Gippsland trained offshore wind workers.
