The past few days in Sydney have truly reinforced Destination Australia’s theme: We Are the Australian Tourism Industry. My week began with a Cultural Attractions of Australia Board Meeting, where we were joined by Penny Fowler, Chair of Tourism Australia, and Karen Fitzgerald for valuable discussions on cultural tourism. It was also fantastic to see so many CAOA members from across the country at Destination Australia (I missed that photo opportunity, but with 800+ delegates, that was a challenge!). A highlight was watching Sara Quon from Sovereign Hill on the CEO panel, sharing valuable insights. Beyond the conference, we enjoyed a members' catch-up, reconnected with colleagues, and experienced the final rehearsal of Opera Australia's Guys & Dolls on Sydney Harbour—a powerful reminder of our world-class cultural tourism offerings. These moments highlight the strength of our industry and the incredible people and collaborations that drive it forward. #WeAreTheAustralianTourismIndustry #TourismAustralia #CulturalAttractionsofAustralia #DestAus25

Last week, Cultural Attractions of Australia participated in Tourism Australia Signature Experiences of Australia India Showcase, where we engaged with luxury travel advisors and media. I had the opportunity to showcase the rich cultural depth within our collective, which was incredibly well received. Key takeaways? Indian luxury travellers are seeking diverse cultural experiences and exploring beyond Australia's east coast. They are so much more than a VFR market – they are actively looking for authentic, immersive travel experiences. Exciting times ahead! A big thank you to everyone who made us feel so welcome! A huge thanks to Karen Fitzgerald, the Tourism Australia team, the STO representatives who joined us and my Signature Experiences of Australia colleagues. #CAOA #CulturalTourism #SeeAustralia Nicole Mitchell Penny Rafferty GAICD Sarah Myers Cherie Hutchinson Susan Coghill Nishant Kashikar

What an incredible start to our UK trip for Cultural Attractions of Australia and the Signature Experiences of Australia team. Last week’s meetings with trade and media partners, along with connecting with Tourism Australia and the State Tourism Organisation teams in London, showcased the strength of Tourism Australia's efforts and the immense value of being part of a collective. We’re excited for another productive week at Tourism Australia's UK/Europe Marketplace event, building meaningful connections and exploring future collaborations. A big thank you to Karen Fitzgerald for making this happen, and to my SEA colleagues Sarah Myers and Nicole Mitchell.

Cultural Attractions of Australia held their Annual General Meeting yesterday, marking the end of a successful three-year term for John Quertermous as Chair. We are grateful for John’s exceptional leadership during this period and are pleased that he will remain on the board. We also extend our sincere thanks to Anne McVilly for her dedication and service as Treasurer. We're excited to announce that Angelique Brcic from Mona has been appointed as the new Chair, and Tristan Hoffmeister from National Portrait Gallery, Canberra will step into the role of Treasurer. Additionally, we welcome Rachael Hammond from Art Gallery NSW as our newly elected board member. With their collective expertise and commitment, we look forward to continuing our work to enhance and grow cultural tourism in Australia. We are excited about what lies ahead and remain committed to advancing our shared vision for Australia’s cultural attractions.
Today was my last day as Chair of Cultural Attractions of Australia after three years. 2021 was a very different time, and I'm astounded by the progress we've made. In our mission to advance uniquely Australian cultural experiences globally, and add value to the visitor economy, we've welcomed 5 new members (Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, Art Gallery NSW, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Australian Institute Of Sport, National Portrait Gallery), relaunched the collective to the travel industry guided by a comprehensive strategic roadmap, and delivered over $5m in media coverage to our members. We have the strongest ever engagement from the travel industry and a 94% member satisfaction rate. Being a part of this collective brings me so much joy, which is probably why I'm staying on the Board, just passing the baton to Angelique Brcic. Thank you to all who have been part of the ride, including but certainly not limited to Annabel Sullivan Karen Fitzgerald Jane Ross - The Culture Farm Erin Lightfoot Jennifer Ganske Sarah Hitchcock PSM Anne McVilly Jane Zantuck Bronwyn Klepp (I could keep going...) We’ve just wrapped up our annual Cultural Attractions of Australia Member Workshop, bringing together nearly all our members and welcoming two new additions! We missed those who couldn’t join us this year. The collaboration and commitment to cultural tourism among our members is truly remarkable. A highlight was witnessing their willingness to share, learn and connect with each other - truly inspiring. It was fantastic to hear from Karen Fitzgerald and Minta Burn from Tourism Australia, Bookable Tourism and Troy Casey from Blaklash. The workshop was made even more special by immersing ourselves in the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art 'Iris Van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses' exhibition. Stunning. Thank you to everyone for a memorable event. We need longer next year!
