‘Treat life joyfully’. It’s a simple message. Our volunteers from Peters Ice Cream definitely provided joy as they served up approximately 4000kg of food to over 300 people at our market yesterday. One volunteer, with tears in her eyes, explained how much it had meant for her to take part in the day, and reflected on how grateful she was that she could put dinner on her table when clearly so many can’t, as the reality of what she had seen that day was sinking in. 💜

About us
Foodbank Victoria is an independent not-for-profit organisation with almost 90 years’ experience providing food relief. We are the largest provider of food relief in Victoria, including in times of disaster as part of the State Relief and Recovery Team. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation and pay our respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging. Our vision is healthy food for all Victorians, yet 1 in 5 people – including children – go hungry each year. To ensure we can reach as many people as possible, we work with food donors across the supply chain to source edible food from farmers, manufacturers and retailers. This often includes product that is out of specification, close to its best-before date, has incorrect labelling or damaged packaging, as well as excess stock and discontinued products. Without Foodbank, much of this food would simply go to landfill. Unfortunately, donations of food don’t always meet demand. In an innovative approach to fighting hunger, we work with some of Australia’s leading food manufacturers to secure a sustainable supply of essential items for our Key Staples Program. We also run programs in Victoria to target particular vulnerable groups, such as our School Breakfast Clubs, Farms to Families pop-up markets, and Essential Pantry Program. In 2017/18, we were able to distribute 8.4 million kilograms of staple, fresh and frozen foods, personal hygiene items and household products. This volume is the equivalent of putting 15 million meals on tables for people in need. We continue to work with more than 450 charity partners around the state to feed more than 116,000 people a month — nearly one-third of whom are children. If your organisation can support our work, please get in touch.

It’s hard to think of people going a full day without any food, skipping meals and stressing because they know that the food they have won’t last until their next pay. The Foodbank Hunger Report, that was released today, tells us that this is happening right now in Victoria to thousands and thousands of people. It’s reassuring to know, that we are managing to feed 69,000 of those people…EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. 😊

We all know that maintaining a healthy diet is a struggle on a student budget, and Allianz Partners Australia’s 2023 State of Student Healthcare Report has proven it – with findings showing that 36% of international students aren’t able to afford fresh food and groceries. With the support of our friends at Allianz Partners Australia, Foodbank is hosting a series of on-campus pop-up markets across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, providing free groceries and pantry staples to distribute fresh, nutritious food – food that every student should have in their pantry at home.

Why is our CEO Dave so happy to be receiving this van? Because it will make such a difference to the daily life of Foodbank Victoria and our ability to get food to Victorians in need. It is a much more effective way, both physically and financially, for us to get around Melbourne streets to pick up donations, and drop food off to charities. We are so grateful to the teams from the Lions Club that made this happen. So thank you to the ALF and LCIF along with Districts 201 V-4, V3 and V5. We love our beautiful new van. 🚐💜

Today was really ace… We smiled, we laughed, we worked hard and we did what we came to do. We fed 250 people and filled their bags to the brim with fresh fruit and veggies. 😊💜 Thanks to Coates for supporting our free food market today.

Who brings the action to volunteering at Foodbank? AIG, that's who! Yesterday, AIG showed up to our warehouse full of enthusiasm and ready to give it everything they've got, as always. After a hard day's work, they managed to pack over 11,386 meals for people doing it tough right across Victoria. An awesome effort! #corporatevolunteering

Now here’s a card trick with a real ‘WOW’ factor… thanks to our friends at Hallmark Cards Australia & New Zealand, you can ‘round up’ any purchase from the Hallmark website to the nearest dollar, and Hallmark will donate that money to Foodbank! If you’ve been meaning to create a meaningful moment for a special someone in your life, head to www.hallmark.com.au to make it happen with a personalised card or a gift – and know you’re giving back to millions of ‘special someones’ we feed, every single day.

Jamie Oliver is wanting to shine a light on people who are doing brilliant things to inspire kids through food. We think we might know a few of those people! We meet them every day. They inspire us and go above and beyond at schools, or in the community, teaching about or serving delicious, nutritious food. Amongst the very special, knowledgeable and famous panel of experts helping judge the awards, is our very own CEO David McNamara, who is passionate about food and establishing innovative food programs to reach the most vulnerable in our communities. If you know anyone doing brilliant things to inspire Aussie kids through food, nominate them now! https://lnkd.in/gSbBicmf The Jamie Oliver Group
