Today is R U OK? Day and this year’s messaging of ‘Ask R U OK? Any Day’ is particularly important in ensuring we’re building trust through regular, meaningful conversations to normalise talking about what’s going on. One of our lovely Gold Coast team members Fiona has baked some delicious R U OK? cookies, which were the perfect conversation starter. How is your team is raising awareness and encouraging meaningful conversations throughout the year? #ruok #ruokday2024 #mentalhealthawareness #suicideprevention

Today (10 September) is World Suicide Prevention Day. Changing the narrative on suicide requires systemic change. It's about shifting from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support. Every conversation, no matter how small, contributes to a more supportive and understanding society. At 8PM you can light a candle to show your support for suicide prevention, to remember a loved one & for the survivors of suicide. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealthAwareness #RFQ #RFQCommunities #ThisIsRFQ #RFQStaff #RFQClients #MentalHealth #WellBeing #MentalIllness

Suzanne Dasailly (Executive Manager, Service Operations) and Michele McGraw-Dennis (Transitions from Corrections Coordinator) were given an opportunity to talk about Richmond Fellowship Queensland's unique Transition from Corrections program at this Post-Release Round Table: Transforming pathways from prison to health and healing' event hosted by Micah Projects recently. Thank you for the opportunity to be part of this forum which focused on the lived experience and discussed effective health and social support pathways for people released from prison. The Transitions program is a recovery focused support service for people with a mental illness released to the community from an adult correctional facility. Engagement with the client commences in the correctional facility prior to release and support can continue for up to 12 months post release. Support provided includes emotional and practical support. Transitions from Corrections is a referral-based service from the Prison Mental Health and you can learn more about it here: https://lnkd.in/gga7Wv3X
On Thursday July 11th Micah Projects’ Home to Home Healthcare Network hosted the 'Post Release Roundtable: Transforming pathways from prison to health and healing' event. The interactive roundtable included panels, presentations and attendee discussion and panel Q&A. Presented in three parts, Understanding current pathways to post-release primary care, impacts on individuals and perspectives from care providers; Transforming post-release pathways to healing, wellbeing and safety; and Visioning new pathways for the next generation, the event provided a forum to understand obstacles to effective health and social support of people released from prison. With a focus on lived experience and in the spirit of collaboration and knowledge sharing, invitees included representatives from community services and government departments providing care and support to people exiting custodial settings. Organisations and government departments in attendance included: ACSO Australia, Brisbane South PHN, Brisbane Youth Detention Centre, Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works, Dept Youth Justice, Dept Attorney General, Griffith University, Head to Health – Neami, Institute of Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH), Mater Health Services, Metro North Health, Micah Projects/Inclusive Health Partnerships, Office of the Public guardian, Queensland Network of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies (QNADA), Queensland Corrective Services, Queensland Health, Queensland Mental Health Commission, QuIHN Brisbane Region, QuIVAA, RFQ - Richmond Fellowship Queensland, Royal Australasian College of GP’s (RACGP), @Sero4-Mara Projects, Sisters Inside, The Salvation Army Australia, The University of Queensland, West Moreton Hospital and Health Service, WorldWellness® Group, Youth Advocacy Centre (YAC), Yoga on the Inside. Thank-you to St Vincent's Health Australia for funding this important work. In next steps, the H2H network plans to further the discussion around pathways to providing more integrated care for this particularly vulnerable cohort. This week we celebrate National Reconciliation Week. The week is chosen for two significant milestones: the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision. The theme this year is ‘Now More Than Ever’, emphasising that the fight for justice and the rights of the First Peoples must continue now more than ever. At RFQ, we place a high value through our Indigenous Peoples program on building the cultural capability of our people and services. Alongside this, we have been rolling out our Indigenous branding, taken from the bespoke artwork ‘Open Arms, Caring Spirit’ created by David Williams of Indigenous creative agency, Gilimbaa. The branding is featured in our central office at Annerley, our new Toowoomba and Ipswich offices, and at our Redcliffe office. When entering our Annerley reception area, visitors will see a vibrant branding decal on the floor – an element taken from the artwork that represents ‘RFQ as an organisation’. This element is also included on our email signature block. Across our four meeting rooms (Tugun, Dhagun, Yimbun and Yugai), plaques describe the Indigenous origin of each room name and the links with the custom carpet design created by Gumbaynggirr artist, Brentyn Lugnan. In Tugun, an additional large element from the artwork and an Acknowledgement of Country is featured on the walls. You can see the bespoke artwork in its entirety on the cover of the 2023 Annual Report, with the background to the artwork and branding noted on the inside front cover. The Indigenous branding represents how we embrace cultural connections throughout RFQ’s community.
