about yesterday...
Can you bend stones without them breaking? (Spoiler: yes, you can) How do you store CO2 in recycled concrete? How do the Swiss plastics and textile industries deal with the 2050 climate targets? Can you make a shoe out of CO2? (Spoiler: yap) How can macroalgae be used to regenerate ecosystems and permanently remove carbon? These and many other exciting questions were discussed at yesterday's conference "Exploring Negative Emission Technologies in the Plastic Industry and Beyond" at the Empa Academy in Dübendorf. Close to 50 participants found their way to Dübendorf and were able to exchange views on these and other topics. A big thank you goes to the representatives of Bundesamt für Umwelt BAFU, Empa, EPFL, KUNSTSTOFF.swiss, neustark, Swiss Textiles, On, TechnoCarbonTechnologies Switzerland GmbH, KohlenKraft, RECOAL AG, HYPHEN GLOBAL AG, V Carbon and Open Climate Solutions and especially to the co-organisers at Innovation Booster Carbon Removal, sus.lab | ETH and Empa for their great support. The development and adoption of innovative, efficient, lightweight, and sustainable advanced materials /processes are crucial for the EU industry to achieve significant reductions in carbon footprint and advance towards a circular economy, thereby contributing to substantial CO2 emissions reductions and a net-zero future. The 'Efficient, Lightweight, Sustainable Advanced Materials - Supporting EU industries to meet the Green Deal targets' workshop convenes numerous research initiatives funded by the European Commission under Horizon Europe framework programme addressing the above challenges comprehensively. https://lnkd.in/d9kHMeaS

As Leading House of the Innovation Booster Plastics for Zero Emission and together with our partner Innovation Booster Carbon Removal, we would like to invite you to a conference at Empa in Dübendorf on 6 June 2024 As various industries are beginning their journey towards net zero, we invite you to gain insights into existing approaches to mitigating CO2 emissions in different sectors and to explore novel and innovative ideas for achieving carbon removal beyond emissions reductions. We aim to bring together established industry players, scientists, and start-ups in order to exchange thoughts and discuss ideas for advancing the industry towards net zero together. In addition, you will have the chance to visit NEST – the modular research and innovation building of Empa and Eawag where new technologies, materials and systems are tested, researched and further developed under real conditions. Finally, alumni and current participants of the Innovation Booster Plastics for Zero Emission and the Innovation Booster Carbon Removal will share their experiences of participating in the program and developing radical ideas. In addition to exciting presentations from On, neustark, Swiss Textiles, carbonauten GmbH and others, you can also expect two keynotes from Bundesamt für Umwelt BAFU and Empa on Negative Emissions Technologies. We would also like to invite young, dynamic companies and entrepreneurs to apply for presentations in the start-up and idea pitching session on this topic. Get involved and make an active contribution to the success of this event. Let's make a difference together. Our friends and CU Switzerland member from the Hightechzentrum Aargau invite you to the event "Transnational Lightweighting Projects" together their partner ELA - European Lightweight Association on 16 April in Brugg. The participation of many industry players and funding organisations demonstrates the high relevance of the lightweight industry in Switzerland. It also shows that a higher funding rate is desired for this important interdisciplinary topic and that the participants are open to collaboration in international cooperation projects. The keynote speech on European cooperation, networks and funding programmes for lightweight initiatives is worth highlighting here. The programme will be rounded off with further presentations from the practical side, a panel discussion and an Apéro at the end. For further information on the event, the detailed programme and registration, please follow this link. https://lnkd.in/dCtzkkAc
