Info
The NDC Partnership brings together more than 200 members, including more than 115 countries, developed and developing, and more than 80 institutions to create and deliver on ambitious climate action that help achieve the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Governments identify their NDC implementation priorities and the type of support that is needed to translate them into actionable policies and programs. Based on these requests, the membership offers a tailored package of expertise, technical assistance, and funding. This collaborative response provides developing countries with efficient access to a wide range of resources to adapt to and mitigate climate change and foster more equitable and sustainable development. As record temperatures and unprecedented climate impacts affect billions, the NDC Partnership, the United Nations and partners are convening the NDCs 3.0 Regional Fora across six regions in 2024, with the aim to raise the ambition of #NDCs 3.0. This week, countries convened at the regional forum for Eastern Europe and Central Asia in 🇹🇷 Türkiye. As these regional fora take place, the NDC Partnership continues to support countries in preparing ambitious NDCs 3.0. Through our Global Call for NDCs 3.0 & LT-LEDS, countries can leverage the expertise and resources available across the NDC Partnership to develop their NDCs 3.0, develop or refine their LT-LEDS and align these two instruments. Effective coordination is key to driving #ClimateAction, enabling governments to align action across sectors and stakeholders. These examples showcase effective coordination mechanisms across countries: 🇨🇴 Colombia has an interministerial coordination mechanism that incorporates government participation across levels and sectors through the legally encoded National Climate Change System. 🇵🇭 The Philippines’ Climate Change Commission coordinates, monitors and evaluates government programs and ensures climate action is integrated into national, local and sectoral plans. 🇰🇭 Cambodia invites implementing and development partners to join interministerial Climate Change Technical Working Group meetings to review national progress. 🇵🇪 Peru’s National Commission on Climate Change brings together government ministries and stakeholder groups, including Indigenous People and youth. 🇹🇿 In Tanzania, the Development Partners Group facilitates structured dialogue between development partners and the government in high-level fora. Conserving and building resilience in #marine and #coastal ecosystems is critical for supporting economies, improving ocean-based climate solutions and advancing global commitments like the Global Biodiversity Framework, the #ParisAgreement and the Sustainable Development Goals #SDGs. Oceans offer important benefits for climate adaptation and mitigation, but they are often overlooked in national climate strategies. In many #NDCs, ocean-based measures focus on adaptation rather than mitigation. A new policy brief by World Wildlife Fund on the profound impacts of climate change on our oceans provides recommendations for governments to strengthen their NDCs: ✅ Set measurable targets for ocean-based climate actions ✅ Align ocean solutions with national and international strategies ✅ Invest in capacity building and science ✅ Secure financing for implementing ocean-based solutions ✅ Ensure societal engagement and participation Learn more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gQ2hMJ7n

Ahead of COP29 in Azerbaijan, Central Asian governments are using platforms like the annual Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC) and the #NDCs 3.0 Regional Forum for Eastern Europe and Central Asia to strengthen collaboration and raise both national and regional ambition. Progress is visible across the region: 🇰🇿 Kazakhstan is leading with an updated NDC to cut emissions by 15% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. 🇰🇬 Kyrgyzstan is focusing on water management and agriculture, with plans like the “Decade of Actions for Mountain Regions 2023-2027.” 🇹🇯 Tajikistan is developing one of the most comprehensive climate finance plans, with support from the Asian Development Bank, to mobilize and scale international climate finance. Yet, challenges remain. The region faces an estimated #ClimateFinance gap of USD 38 billion per year up to 2030. Innovative financial tools, including green #microfinance and regional sovereign wealth funds, are being considered to attract both public and private investments. This is a critical moment for Central Asia to build on recent progress, increase climate ambition and work together to meet the challenges ahead. Greater regional collaboration and innovation are essential to achieving a sustainable future. Learn more about #ClimateAction in Central Asia ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gGjeCd7A

The Eastern Europe and Central Asia region has significant potential for green development. Leveraging this potential requires scaling up #ClimateAction through strong #NDCs 3.0 submissions. The NDCs 3.0 Regional Forum for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, happening this week, can support these efforts by bringing together national governments and experts to help countries shape the next round of #NDCs due in 2025. The forum helps countries in the region: ✅ Align NDCs 3.0 with the 1.5-degree C #ParisAgreement target ✅ Integrate adaptation and resilience strategies ✅ Unlock #ClimateFinance to address the region-specific climate challenges Learn more about the NDCs 3.0 Regional Fora ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gFNPBcfi

The Eastern Europe and Central Asia region faces rising temperatures, extreme weather events and water shortages. Addressing these climate risks requires immediate, coordinated actions that prioritize adaptation, resilience building and sustainable transitions in key economic sectors. Starting today, the #NDCs 3.0 Regional Forum for Eastern Europe and Central Asia brings together government officials, climate experts and regional stakeholders to address climate challenges in the region. Together, they will share best practices and explore innovative mitigation and adaptation solutions as countries aim to accelerate #ClimateAction and raise ambition in their 2025 NDC submissions. The event is hosted by the Government of Türkiye in #Instanbul and facilitated by UN Environment Programme, UNDP in Europe and Central Asia, UN Climate Change, the NDC Partnership and other partners.
