MEMBER NEWS | Welcome to Our New Member CMA CGM and New Energies Coalition!   A global player in sea, land, air and logistics solutions, CMA CGM has actively invested in and contributed to decarbonising its industry. In this sense, their key objective is to achieve #NetZero carbon emissions across all activities by 2050. To attain this, CMA CGM is ambitiously pursuing the goal of reaching two intermediate stages for its shipping activities: -30% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and -80% by 2040 (vs 2008). Our new member’s decarbonisation strategy is based on two pillars: 🔵 Reducing energy consumption through operational excellence and optimisation of the Group’s assets. 🔵 Increasing the share of low-carbon energies, both by acquiring adapted assets and developing sustainable production channels. A pioneer in the use of LNG and biofuels in shipping, CMA CGM continues to diversify its energy mix by integrating new low-carbon fuels – biogas, biomethanol and synthetic fuels. The Group also focuses on innovation and collaboration by expanding the scope of its Research & Development (R&D) to explore cutting-edge technology and energy innovation in energy, ships, terminals, land, and air freight. These efforts include the launch of the NEW ENERGIES COALITION in 2019 to accelerate the energy transition in global supply chains. The New Energies Coalition is a consortium of 19 leading stakeholders operating across international supply chains. It aims to accelerate the development of energy and technology solutions to reduce the sector’s impact on climate change and to collectively tackle major energy transition challenges for transport & logistics. Within the Coalition, CMA CGM leads a working group focusing on Carbon Capture and Utilisation (#CCU) on board ships and the required CO₂ supply chain on board based on circular economy principles.   Find out more about CMA CGM at https://t.ly/Yrd18. As part of the work of the Biogas Working Group of the Strategic Committee “Nouveaux systèmes énergétiques” (New Energy Systems), Coalition member GRTgaz is leading a Call for Expression of Interest on Hydrothermal Gasification, aimed at injecting compliant gas into the network ♻️⛽ All project developers, either at the preliminary study stage or at a more advanced stage, are invited to participate. Hydrothermal gasification is an innovative technology, using hot pressurized water, that transforms organic waste into renewable and low carbon gas. As such, it has significant potential to grow the circular economy. The New Energies Coalition committed to accelerate the energy transition of transport and logistics, is looking at and supporting the development of low carbon & renewable fuels like biomethane as they contribute to decarbonizing all gas uses, particularly in industry and transport 🚛 · Learn more about Hydrothermal gasification: https://lnkd.in/eTKdVyhq · Learn more about the new Expression of Interest on Hydrothermal gasification: https://lnkd.in/egw62zDD · Learn more about our actions: https://lnkd.in/ez4Bcyn4

Schönefeld, Germany ✈️ The ILA Berlin Air Show, which dates back to 1909, starts today and runs until June 9th. The event brings the world's aerospace and defence industry to the heart of Europe, every two years. Industry representatives, politicians, armed forces and academics gather at Berlin's Schoenefeld Airport for an air show focusing on the themes of innovation, new technologies and sustainability. Reflecting the theme of this year's event - #PioneeringAerospace – our members Airbus and Rolls-Royce, will demonstrate their commitment to a more sustainable and advanced air mobility, and showcase their latest innovations. Among them, a new model of medium-haul aircraft developed by Airbus, that run on sustainable aviation fuels while reducing their overall carbon footprint. On average, SAF can reduce CO2 emissions by 80% compared to traditional jet fuel. This substantial reduction is crucial to the industry’s progress towards decarbonization. However, the SAF ecosystem is in its infancy and many challenges are delaying its uptake. A massive increase in production is required as well as appropriate regulatory mechanisms and inventive structures. Collaboration between the various players at a global scale is, once again, essential. The New Energies Coalition set up a working group led by Rolls-Royce and with the contribution of Airbus and other valuable of our members, aiming at better understanding how to reach 100% SAF, particularly for e-fuels, including technical feasibility, costs, deployment potential, and sustainability. Stay stuned for more info regarding this study. Learn more about the Coalition's actions ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ez4Bcyn4
