Talks about mobility for all and road safety| TedX speaker | Founder Trustee, Raahgiri Foundation| #VisionZero | Cycling enthusiastic 🦼🛴🛺🚴🏽♀️🚍 believer of humanity & peace ☮️
Collaboration among multiple stakeholders is crucial for achieving the global target of reducing road crash fatalities and injuries by 50%. By bringing together diverse expertise and resources, we can develop comprehensive and effective safety solutions. This week, I had the opportunity of participating in the 2+ 3-day #Safety2024 Conference at Taj Palace, Delhi. As a proud partner of this transformative event, Nagarro and Raahgiri Foundation engaged with CSOs, academias and industry leaders, shared their milestones, and explored innovative solutions to tackle diverse #roadsafety and #climatechange challenges. I extend my heartfelt thanks to The The George Institute for Global Health World Health Organization Bloomberg Philanthropies , Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India , and Ministry of Road Transport & Highways - India - India for their exceptional organization and seamless execution. The enriched discussions, dialogues, youth participation, installation shows the commitment to advancing road safety and fostering collaboration is truly inspiring. A special thanks to our Chief Guest, the Honorable Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Mr Nitin Gadkari Ji, for your support and dedication to enhancing community safety. Heartfelt congratulations and thank you to Jagnoor Jagnoor for making this possible. We look forward to continuing our partnership and making a positive impact on road safety and climate change. Here’s to many more impactful initiatives! 🚀 #Safety2024 #ThankYou #RoadSafety #CommunityImpact #BuildingResilience UNICEF Safetipin World Health Organization FIA Foundation Becky Bavinger Kelly Larson Manas Human Kalpana Viswanath Avi Silverman Atsani A. Focus on safe, inclusive, responsive and equitable public spaces. One of the things we really recognize post -covid is that we need to focus on care-economy. Our cities are designed for certain people, often able-bodies male - who are statistically not the most involved in caregiving. Within transport, there needs to be good transport, last mile connectivity, safety. Many women have mentioned facing some kind of sexual harassment while using public transport. Besides, adequate road infrastructure and lighting, public toilets also play a very important role. Access and availability do have an impact on their (women’s) mobility. Dr. Kalpana Viswanath- Co-Founder, Safetipin - spoke today at the Mobility, Gender, and Public Health panel at World Safety Conference 2024 She has been an inspiration for all of us here at P4C India and has been someone who has always encouraged our work. #Safety2024 #teamwork #P4CIndia #mobility #roadsafety #inclusion Kalpana Viswanath Safetipin

Not necessarily the most sought after metric, but sadly, it is the world we live in today! With 90% of women nationwide feeling unsafe while traveling, technology has stepped in to offer some help through apps, wearables, and gadgets: 🔺 Wearable Gadgets: Devices such as smart rings, jewelry, and watches can discreetly send SOS signals 🔺 Cab Services: Cab services like Ola and Uber have integrated safety features like SOS buttons, GPS tracking, and real-time trip sharing 🔺Apps like: WalkSafe (UK) Launched in 2021, designed to enhance personal safety, particularly for women traveling alone. Key Features: ▪️Live Map Tracking: Users can share their real-time location with trusted contacts, ensuring that someone always knows their whereabouts ▪️Route Safety Analysis: The app suggests the safest route home by analyzing recent crime data, highlighting areas with high crime rates ▪️Check-In Feature: Users can set a "check-in" feature to inform their contacts when they’ve safely reached their destination ▪️Emergency Assistance: With a single tap, users can quickly alert their contacts, providing their exact location and immediate need for help The India's equivalent is Safetipin. While technology can provide essential safety measures, addressing the root causes of why women are unsafe requires a societal shift and collective effort. Safety should be a right for women, not just a privilege. #WomensSafety #TechForGood #SafetyFirst #SocialChange #WomenEmpowerment

Walking alone at night as a woman is an experience that goes beyond simply getting from one place to another—it's a navigation through the intricate realities of #safety, #rights, and #dignity that women face in our cities every day. Dr. Kalpana Viswanath delves into these challenges in her article, shedding light on how women make conscious decisions about their #mobility and how these choices are influenced by the often unfriendly urban environments we live in. Despite the progress we've made — from safety audits and improved #lighting to women-only transport and digital #safetytool — there's still much work to be done to create cities that are truly #inclusive and safe for all. The article reminds us that the instinct to limit women's mobility in response to violent incidents only perpetuates the problem. Instead, we must continue to occupy and reclaim public spaces, demanding #equality, rights, and dignity for all. As we reflect on these important issues, we're curious to hear from you: How do you perceive safety in your city? What more can be done to ensure that all women can move freely and confidently in urban spaces?
