Later this week, our Angie Jim Osman and Laurie Hallows will be heading to Buffalo, New York, for the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) North Atlantic 2025 Regional Conference, 6-8 April. With Sarah Cary from Imperial College London, Angie and Laurie will be presenting some learning from London; looking at our work crafting urban education campuses across the city from Imperial College London to University of the Arts London. If you're attending the conference or will be in the Buffalo area, please reach out to Angie and Laurie to say hello.
About us
We are architects and urbanists. We strive to design beautiful buildings that have long life and can adapt over the generations. We also shape enduring places whether new pieces of city or settlements at any scale. All our projects are concerned with the crafting of every detail and an appreciation for the uniqueness of each context. Representing more than forty nationalities and speaking more than twenty languages, we thrive on a friendly, collaborative and supportive atmosphere. We work as one studio, bringing together architects, urban designers and planners, with specialists in conservation, sustainability, interiors, modelmaking, graphic design, communications, community engagement and studio administration.

Earlier this week, we enjoyed a visit from a group of UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design students who are studying for their Masters of Real Estate Development + Design. After visiting our Bankside studios for a talk by Daniel Elsea and Silvia Asuni, they were given tours of our King's Cross and Olympic Legacy masterplans led by Antje Saunders and Emad Sleiby. Thanks to all for a great visit.

First look at Imperial College London's recently completed School of Public Health at the university’s White City campus. Public health is inherently multidisciplinary. The building responds with flexibility to create spaces for collaboration and chance encounters between academics, researchers, students and public health professionals as they advance their fields of research. This marks our second building for Imperial College London at White City. (📷 Jack Hobhouse)

Mercers Row, Cambridge, has been unanimously approved by the Planning Committee. The designs see the site of a vacant and derelict paper recycling facility transformed into the city's first sustainable mid-tech hub in central Cambridge, creating space for research, labs, tech and manufacturing. Congratulations to the team, with CMP Architects Ltd and our clients, Wrenbridge and Cambridge City Council.

Thank you to Herzog & de Meuron for treating us to a wonderful tour of AstraZeneca's Discovery Centre last week in Cambridge. We hope to return the favour soon.
Our Cambridge Team were treated to a tour of the AstraZeneca's striking Discovery Centre at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. A huge thank you to Edman Choy and Amparo Casani of Herzog & de Meuron, and to Stefanie Mather and Michael Ripley of AstraZeneca for leading the tour. The scale of AZ's ambition is truly remarkable. What a place to work - a true "silicon fen"! Great to see the campus evolving so successfully after years of planning and development, in which Allies and Morrison have been often involved in one way or another. It was also wonderful to see our own - admittedly more modest - buildings still looking fantastic in the sunshine! https://lnkd.in/eqUcUCx9 https://lnkd.in/ezyabzqa

Our Jo Bacon at today's NLA Tall Buildings Conference exploring the significant contribution to the public realm that tall buildings can offer. #tallbuildings #nla
Jo Bacon of Allies and Morrison now takes the floor at the NLA Tall Buildings Conference, presenting best practice examples over the last 10 years, not just in designing tall buildings but in shaping the public spaces around them. Some key takeaways from the NLA Expert Panel on Tall Buildings, after reviewing 40+ projects from the past decade: 🏗️ Retrofit isn’t just for buildings—it’s about rethinking the public realm to create real neighbourhoods, not just standalone towers. 🌳 More emphasis on outdoor spaces for socialising and connection. 🎉 People want buzz! These spaces should be high-quality, open, and accessible to workers, visitors, and all Londoners.

Second year architecture students from Kingston College accompanied by former colleague and now lecturer, Suzanna Heape, enjoyed a tour of our London studios with Emad Sleiby on a recent sunny day in Bankside. Students heard more about the Olympic Legacy from one of the studio's roof terraces, and paid a visit to our modelshop, speaking with modelmaker, Andrea Campenni.

Congratulations to our Liam Kelly, Nouha Hansen and Alexander Baker for hosting another successful event with BEF: Built Environment for the Future, this time in our London studio. Wonderful to see this group of passionate individuals sharing knowledge and ideas, and generating collective action.
Last month, we hosted a very special event for our 10th session, bringing together other young professional networks from across the built environment. BEF is all about fostering collaboration, and collective action towards a better future - and so our event focused on creating connections between groups. Thank you to Allies and Morrison for hosting us in their wonderful studio. We would like to extend a massive thank you to UK Architects Declare's Student ambassadors, The Academy of Urbanism (AoU)'s Young urbanists, CIBSE YEN London, CPA's nextgen, ICE Early Careers Network (ECN) London, IStructE London YMG, RICS Matrics UK, London & South East and Royal Town Planning Institute Young Planners. Please have a read through our summary, we hope to spotlight some of the amazing people within these groups who brought fantastic energy and insights. And lastly, look out for our next event shortly coming late spring 2025!

Last Thursday we came together as a practice to celebrate International Women's Day with a revival of an ever-popular event where letters written to people's 'earlier selves' are shared. Heartfelt and often humorous, but always full of valuable wisdoms; the personalities of each contributor shine through. Thank you to Yasmeen C., Katerina Mathioudaki, Laura Berge, Andrea Tse, Imogen Blaikie, Christina Maurice and Angie Jim Osman for sharing their personal reflections with us. And to Paul Eaton for helping a fellow New Zealander out. We plan to repeat it later in the year, and next time, the men will join. #internationalwomensday2025

A House of Lords event showcasing Swindon’s buoyant economy and investment potential to 175 people from across business and government is taking place a week today (17 March). The Council has organised the event to catalyse investment in the reinvention of Swindon town centre as outlined in the ‘Heart of Swindon’ vision. Developed last year with the support of Allies and Morrison, the Vision has been informed by town centre landowners, developers, educational institutions, government agencies and businesses. Plans include: - Delivering up to 8,000 new homes and amenities to support a Swindon population growing much faster than the national average - Bringing forward residential-led development at the major town centre brownfield site Kimmerfields and creating a regional scale entertainment venue - Exploring the redevelopment of the Brunel Centre, which could include shops, community space, workspaces, homes and public space providing apartment living for students, young people and those downsizing - Developing a new space for Wilkes Academy to bring them into the town centre A new investment prospectus outlines opportunities ranging from shovel-ready projects in Swindon to longer term strategic sites that can come forward in a phased manner over the next 5-10 years. Organisations speaking at the event include Business West, which is working with Network Rail, Homes England, Swindon Borough Council and other partners to create a new commercial and residential district on land next to the town’s railway station. Panattoni UK will also talk about its £918m investment in Swindon to build new 7.2m sq ft of best-in-class logistics, industrial and data centres on the site of the former Honda factory. Panattoni Park is expected to create up to 11,000 jobs and another 4,000 in the supply chain. For the second year in a row last year, Swindon was among the five best-performing areas in the Good Growth for Cities Index due to its outstanding economic record and potential, with one of the most productive economies in the UK.
