The Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill introduces counter-terror-style powers to disrupt people smuggling gangs, enabling earlier arrests, phone seizures, and harsher penalties of up to 14 years. It criminalises supplying boat parts, forged documents, and aiding crossings, strengthens biometric checks, and grants the Border Security Commander legal authority to coordinate enforcement. New Serious Crime Prevention Orders will restrict criminals’ travel, internet, and finances and can be imposed without requiring a conviction. https://lnkd.in/eYAFQxjK

Promoting responsible recruitment
About us
The Association of Labour Providers (ALP) is a specialist trade association for labour providers promoting responsible recruitment, to ensure the provision, use and management of labour is recognised as a model of good practice. ALP has a range of members, from the largest national employment businesses to small local providers servicing the consumer goods supply chain across the food processing, horticultural and wider manufacturing, industrial, warehousing and distribution sectors. All organisations in the supply chain are welcomed as Associate Members. The ALP’s aim is for “The provision of temporary labour to the UK consumer goods supply chain to be a model of good practice” We achieve this through: • Raising Standards - improving standards of labour provision beyond base compliance. • Promoting Growth - raising awareness of labour providers’ contribution to supply chain efficiency. • Responsibility to workers – supporting labour providers and users to meet their legal and ethical responsibilities. • Sustainable Supply - facilitating the definition and application of fair pay and charge rates that enable business sustainability. • Proportionate Regulation – advocating proportionate regulation of labour provision that facilitates fair competition. • Sector Support – Championing the work of labour providers ALP has also developed two ground-breaking and complementary initiatives to support responsible recruitment: - The Responsible Recruitment Toolkit (www.responsiblerecruitmenttoolkit.org), a practical online resource base to build businesses’ capacity to become responsible recruiters through step-by-step guidance, videos, resources and workshops. - Clearview (www.clearviewassurance.com), a pioneering certification scheme which independently verifies labour provider’s efforts to recruit responsibly.

We're finally seeing some real signs of movement on these serious issues: commitments from the government to review and better enforce the Modern Slavery Act and great work here by the UK Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner. Remember though that the NRM statistics are likely to be the tip of the iceberg in terms of potential victims of modern slavery in the UK. To find out how to deal with the risks in your business, head on over to Stronger Together for practical downloadable resources and free training for ALP members.
🚨 𝗜𝗔𝗦𝗖’𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒-𝟐𝟔 🚨 The Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner’s (IASC) three-year 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 is now live. The plan formalises a number of objectives IASC are already undertaking. With 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘀 of modern slavery being referred into the UK’s National Referral Mechanism (NRM), we must strengthen and renew our efforts to tackle this crime. Developed through extensive sector consultations and engagement, The Strategic Plan is built on 𝘁̲𝗵̲𝗿̲𝗲̲𝗲̲ ̲𝗸̲𝗲̲𝘆̲ ̲𝗼̲𝗯̲𝗷̲𝗲̲𝗰̲𝘁̲𝗶̲𝘃̲𝗲̲𝘀: 🔹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – Addressing root causes and vulnerabilities to stop exploitation before it starts. 🔹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – Ensuring identification, safety, support, and empowerment for victims and survivors. 🔹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – Holding perpetrators accountable while ensuring justice and dignity for victims. The plan also underpinned by 𝘁̲𝘄̲𝗼̲ ̲𝗰̲𝗿̲𝗼̲𝘀̲𝘀̲-̲𝗰̲𝘂̲𝘁̲𝘁̲𝗶̲𝗻̲𝗴̲ ̲𝘁̲𝗵̲𝗲̲𝗺̲𝗲̲𝘀̲: 🗣 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿 𝗩𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 – Lived experience must inform policies. IASC is calling for the UK Government to establish a 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 to empower survivors. 📊 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 & 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 – We must enhance our understanding of modern slavery through 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴-𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵. While IASC works to represent all victims of modern slavery, we have identified 𝗳̲𝗼̲𝘂̲𝗿̲ ̲𝗸̲𝗲̲𝘆̲ ̲𝗴̲𝗿̲𝗼̲𝘂̲𝗽̲𝘀̲ ̲𝗿̲𝗲̲𝗾̲𝘂̲𝗶̲𝗿̲𝗶̲𝗻̲𝗴̲ ̲𝗮̲𝗱̲𝗱̲𝗶̲𝘁̲𝗶̲𝗼̲𝗻̲𝗮̲𝗹̲ ̲𝗳̲𝗼̲𝗰̲𝘂̲𝘀̲: 👩🦰 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 🇬🇧 𝗨𝗞 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 🧒 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 🌍 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 💡 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲’𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 💡 To drive real change, we need 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 of UK society. Business, academia, civil society, media, and government all have roles to play. IASC is urging the UK Government to take decisive action to ensure all departments understand and fulfil their responsibilities in the fight against modern slavery. Ending modern slavery demands collective action. Let’s work together to build a future where exploitation has no place. The next version of the Employment Rights Bill, incorporating all the amendments made during the Committee Stage is now available: https://lnkd.in/erBqzNQq. Not much more detail on the key issues of zero hours contracts, notice for shifts and day one rights - looks like we will need to wait for Regulations for more information - there are new clauses in there extending the time limits for tribunal claims, introducing new rights for seafarers and applying the day one right to SSP in Northern Ireland. Join our webinar on Friday to hear more: https://lnkd.in/e4Uhpnsb.

One thing that we have heard quite often in consultations and round tables for the forthcoming changes to employment legislation is that workers often don't know where to find information and advice about their rights. Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) is a great source of all sorts of information - explore their website for downloadable resources if you haven't already done so. https://lnkd.in/eWUc5vkm
The GLAA is a UK government agency. Our mission is to stop worker exploitation. We have helped seasonal workers who have been exploited at work to make sure they receive the pay and conditions they are entitled to. In this short video workers explain what they paid for before coming to the UK to work. You should not be charged for work in the UK so if anyone asks you to pay them money to find work then it is probably a scam. If you or a friend or relative are asked to pay money for someone to find you work then tell us. Email contact@gla.gov.uk or report online: https://lnkd.in/gQWEaKU
