Creating a legacy by safely delivering infrastructure ambitions from concept to customer

About us

Barhale was formed in 1980 as a specialist tunnelling contractor and grew initially through the successful delivery of projects in the water sector, developing mechanical and electrical capabilities and a fabrication and supply subsidiary, alongside our traditional tunnelling, civil engineering and utilities skills. After 40 years of successful trading Barhale remains a privately owned business working UK-wide across the water, transport and energy sectors. We provide design, construction and maintenance services under long-term contracts with blue-chip public, regulated and private clients. Barhale is a values driven business which forms collaborative relationships. We operate as a tier 1 partner to many of our clients, often working in integrated teams. Seventy per cent of our turnover is in long-term frameworks and half of our operations are in joint ventures with long-term industry partners. Our vision is to be the best at what we do, aiming to be a market leading infrastructure services provider. Our 3 Pillar Sustainability Model defines our mission - to be the safest, most efficient and most responsible partner to our customers, supported by sound systems and processes, talented people and an engaged supply chain.

  • As part of the Thames Water Fortis Green Trunk Main Replacement project team’s ongoing support for the Friends of Arnos Park volunteering group, we were happy to help out at their Groundforce Day events held in November and last weekend. Thank you to Sebastian Antosiewicz (General Foreman), Tomasz Rachfal (Ganger), Harriclea B. (Customer and Stakeholder Manager), Wieslaw Adamarek (Carpenter), Isabel Duke (Customer and Stakeholder Advisor), Marta Pnishi (Customer and Stakeholder Lead), Marc Pattemore (Ganger) and Sorin Botezatu (Skilled Operative) for spending time on their Saturdays helping to manage the meadow and scrub by clearing trees and tidying branches. Clearing the overgrown areas ensures the community can safely access and use areas within the park which were previously inaccessible. Helping to maintain the natural environment within the park also supports its wildlife. #OurEnvironment #SocialValue #Volunteering

  • Congratulations to the STRABAG UK Equitix consortium on being named the preferred bidder by United Utilities for the Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme (HARP) scheme!   As a key supply chain partner to the consortium, we have enjoyed working closely with STRABAG UK and are proud to have been able to play our part in supporting the tender submission throughout. Barhale Ltd have been tracking and involved with HARP for over 5 years. To be part of the winning consortium is fantastic news and a great achievement for all involved.   The technical solution, which has been developed, will serve to guarantee the resilience of water supply in the North West. This, coupled with lasting positive impact on local communities and supply chain means the project will leave a lasting legacy for years to come.   We are looking forward to further strengthening our relationship with STRABAG UK, as we look to ready ourselves for the construction phase of what will be a technically challenging and complex, yet highly rewarding project.  #waterresilience #waterindustry #contractaward #civilengineering

  • Congratulations to Clare Abraham, Cost Clerk in our eastern region, on celebrating 10 years with Barhale! “In her 10 years, Clare has mostly worked within the @one Alliance as a Commercial Assistant but in January this year she came over to join our Eastern Cost Clerk team. • A massive congratulations to Gordon Bull, Foreman in our Southern Region, on reaching an extraordinary milestone—25 years with Barhale! Over the past quarter of a century, Gordon has been a key figure in delivering successful projects. His commitment, expertise, and hard work continue to inspire everyone around him. Thank you, Gordon, for your outstanding contributions and dedication! “Gordon joined us 25 years ago, working with the Tunnelling team all over the country on our TBMs. Distance never being a problem, Gordon was, and still is, reliable. Barns Elms (one of our Thames Tideway schemes) was one of the many jobs Gordon worked on. He stayed there for a couple of years as Lift Supervisor. Following on from Barns Elms, he went to our HS2 Euston site in mid-2022. Due to his focus on H&S and his ability to communicate well with management and clients, Gordon was promoted to Foreman and hasn’t looked back. We would all like to commend Gordon for his loyalty and commitment to Barhale.” – Barry Baird (Operations Manager, Southern Region)

Earlier this week, members of the Anglian Water Services and @one Alliance Senior Leadership visited our Little Whelnetham to Raydon Tee (LRT) section of the Strategic Pipeline Alliance. Our Managing Director, Ian Hutchinson and Commercial Operations Director, Jason Tucker joined Anglian Water's Dr Ros C Rivaz and Zarin Patel during the visit. The LRT section plays a crucial role in the essential pipeline linking Bury to East Suffolk, ensuring water reaches the areas where it’s needed most. Spanning 36km in total, the pipeline comprises 26km of 630mm pipe & 10km of 450mm pipe. We're proud to be playing our part in creating a more resilient, sustainable future for our communities in need all across the region! #oneAlliance #AnglianWater #LRT #StrategicPipelineAlliance

In our quarterly meeting with Southern Water’s Customer and Communications Team, we were able to celebrate achievements and share best practice with Southern Water and their delivery partners. Towards the end of the event, we had the opportunity to volunteer and support those in need, something our team is always happy to collaborate in. Amy W (Customer & Engagement Lead) and Marta Pnishi (Customer & Stakeholder Lead) in our Southern Region, joined forces with the rest of the group to spend some time at Winchester Basics Bank before Christmas. The charity provides emergency food and clothing and is available for all people in the city and surrounding area. The efforts of the team in this instance were focused on creating food packages for children who would normally receive free school meals, for use during the Christmas holiday period. An impressive 400 food bags were packed by the team for this very worthy cause. #SocialValue #Volunteering #TeamSpirit #Collaboration
