This November, we’re once again getting behind Men’s Health Awareness Month with a series of initiatives to raise awareness of men’s health issues and raise funds for some great causes. Mo-st of all, we’re excited to support our incredible MoBros and MoSisters in their fantastic efforts for Movember – a leading charity dedicated to helping men live happier, healthier, and longer lives. Movember makes a real impact in critical areas such as male mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Whether growing a moustache or getting active, our team is rallying for this important cause, and we’ll be cheering them on every step of the way! Stay tuned for updates on their progress throughout the month. You can learn more about the team and make a donation here: https://bit.ly/3SkXrdK #Movember2024

The Scottish SPCA recently rescued 216 dogs and puppies in just the first 10 days of October from distressing conditions across Scotland. Many of these animals urgently need vet care and support, and the SSPCA has launched a crowdfunder to help cover the costs. With so many of us being dog owners, we wanted to help! The Burness Paull Foundation invited our colleagues to share photos of their dogs, and for each furry face, they donated to the SSPCA appeal. You can scroll through our ‘pics for pups’ below! If you’d like to contribute, you can also donate directly to the SSPCA appeal here: https://bit.ly/4fkZwyD

In 2024, macroeconomic factors and shifting investor sentiment continued to influence dealmaking, but cautious optimism is emerging as slowing inflation may lead to stabilised interest rates. Activity levels in Q3/Q4 2023 have remained consistent into 2024, with the lower and mid-market proving more active than the larger/upper market. While the appetite for large platform acquisitions has slowed, bolt-on acquisitions remain a priority for private equity firms, as they focus on consolidating existing investments and leveraging creative deal structures and sector-specific strategies to sustain deal activity. In the first of our M&A deals insight reports Grant Stevenson and Daniela Pallucci explore deal terms and trends, focusing on mainly lower and mid-market deals and providing valuable insights for both buyers and sellers. We’re incredibly proud to be the first employer in Scotland and the first law firm in the UK to earn both accreditation and re-accreditation as a 'Menopause Friendly' workplace! Creating a supportive environment for those experiencing perimenopause and menopause has been a key part of our commitment to promoting a workplace culture where everyone can succeed. Through raising awareness, encouraging open conversations, and building a strong network of peer support, we aim to break the stigma and improve women’s health and wellbeing all year round. This is a collaborative effort – we’ve worked with long-time friend and advocate Ruth Devlin to host internal and external sessions with both our colleagues and clients to inspire others to take action. We look forward to welcoming Ruth and Dr. Becky Smithson to the firm later this month for a masterclass on HRT. To mark World Menopause Day, our Inclusion & Wellbeing Manager, Emma Smith, spoke with the The Law Society of Scotland to share the significance of our re-accreditation and what it means to be a menopause-friendly employer.
