Collaboration in action! Our Process Apprentices had noticed some links across the process plant and tank farm, so who better to fix them than our Mechanical Apprentices. This exercise saw our process and mechanical apprentices working together to create permits, isolate equipment, carry out repairs and finally testing their work to ensure the fault had been corrected. This was a great experience for both the process and mechanical apprentices to prepare them for their roles on operational sites, as well as not only developing their team work skills but also how essential maintenance tasks can impact plant and process operations. Some of our First Year Apprentices have taken time out of their days to write letters to their new Pen Pals at Temple Croft Care Home! Our apprentices enjoyed receiving their letters from the residents, and we hope that the residents enjoy reading the responses from their new pen pals here at CATCH! It's great to see our apprentices engaging in the wider community, showing selflessness and kindness while completing their industry training with us. Thank you to Katy Sidell for organising this opportunity with Temple Croft Care Home. David Talbot Paul Robinson Katy Sidell Hannah Ardron

Andrew Hockey, CEO of the ECITB, today gave evidence to the influential Energy Security and Net Zero (ESNZ) Select Committee which is looking at how to build the workforce needed to deliver the policies and infrastructure for the UK’s clean, secure energy mission. Speaking as the authority for skills in the engineering construction industry, Andrew outlined the importance of collaboration, cross-skilling and workforce transferability to the cross-party members. He stressed “Engineering construction is vital to meet the country’s net zero goals”. The CITB, Offshore Energies UK and Association of Colleges were also called on to give evidence at the inquiry. Planes, (no trains) and automobiles... Yesterday involved a lot of hours and a lot of driving but it was a fantastic day, filled with lots of FSB's friends from across Greater Lincolnshire and into Notts. Firstly it was a trip to Grimsby to join the Invest North East Lincolnshire (InvestNEL) Industrial Connections #skills panel with my esteemed colleagues David Talbot from CATCH and Lee Douglas from the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority Careers Hub. I was invited to discuss the intent and impact of the #GLRLSIP, the current challenges #smallbiz are facing in recruiting and upskilling and what meaningful changes need to come about to improve work prospects for local people and our employers. Thank you to Amy Gresham, Matthew Sylvester and Penny Codd for inviting me to take part in the day. Always a pleasure to encounter Chloe Tate, Adrian Smith, Jacqueline Gray MCIPS and Michaela Sams in a day's work 😊 Then it was down to Newark to attend "A Night Under the Plane" at the ASI (Newark) ). We're big fans of this fantastic facility within our region (see our recent networking and site tour for evidence) as it is supporting the local air, space and defence workforce and opens up training and staffing potential for thousands of SMEs in the supply chain. It was great to hear from Mark Locking, Penny Taylor MBE, Paul Gregory and "Mayor Clare" Claire Ward. Huge thanks to Newark and Sherwood District Council - namely Veronica Dennant and William Parkinson - for inviting me to represent the local small business community, and it was great to see Tom Marsden, Elizabeth Hanger, Steff Wright 🌱, Dave Williams Gareth Bramley, Kristian S Hanslip and Guy Hodgkinson.
