Check out how we’ve been amplifying youth voices in the climate comms space over September! 🐟 We worked with Surfers Against Sewage to build and launch the latest version of ‘Digital Ocean School’, with voiceover from Lirayen Valencia and a new magical seagrass meadow scene. Check out the online platform: https://lnkd.in/ern-qvSv 📢 We worked with the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative to create social media content over #ClimateWeekNYC, calling for a fossil fuel free future. To view some of our content, click here: https://lnkd.in/eCuP84Zu 🌍 During #ClimateWeekNYC, we ran a workshop with Global Optimism, University of Exeter and Open Planet to co-create a piece of youth-led content around ‘positive tipping points’. Check out the result here: https://lnkd.in/eY_f7GGq 🌊 Johnathon and Nuriya interviewed the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, about his new action plan to clean up London’s waterways. Check out the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/eZwasN59 🎥 We filmed some educational content with Colin butfield and Joycelyn Longdon for our exciting new youth climate communications programme, Generation Earth Minutes. 🌱 Emma and Johnathon hosted a workshop Overgrowth, a youth rewilding summit run by Youngwilders at Knepp Estate. The workshop aimed at sharing and gathering feedback on our latest research on the ‘current state of conservation careers for young people’. This week at #ClimateWeekNYC, University of Exeter released a new report on ‘positive tipping points’. With negative news on climate dominating the headlines, the teams of Earth Minutes, Global Optimism, University of Exeter and Open Planet challenged 50 young minds to co-create a piece of content (in a 2hr workshop!), to share this story of possibility with global youth audiences who couldn’t be here this week. https://lnkd.in/ezqJ2CKD The new report shows how a set of government policies can make clean technologies cheaper than fossil fuels, faster, and go on to trigger cascades of positive change across sectors. What does this mean for us? Positive tipping points show us how we can make the biggest impact this decade and flip the script on our futures. We need to dial up the volume on what’s possible! How? ➡️ Read more in the ‘A positive tipping, cascade in power, transport and heating’ report by University of Exeter ➡️ Think about the context of your own communities – how could you help trigger a cascade of #PositiveTippingPoints? ➡️ Share this message and help us change the climate narrative. Just Transition @ KPMG | Global Chair, Leaders 2050 | Vice Chair @ Youth Climate Lab | Fellow @ Student Energy | Views are my own
This week, during #NewYorkClimateWeek and #UNGA , KPMG #Leaders2050 hosted a #COP29 youth consultation, in collaboration with UN Climate Change and COP29 Azerbaijan - bringing young professionals across public and private sector together to drive climate action and social impact 🌻 🌱 The event culminated with a few calls to action for senior leaders, ahead of the upcoming COP in Baku, including: 🗣 Communicating your COP strategy: Effectively communicate your climate and sustainability strategy with all business lines (not just ESG practitioners). Create opportunities for young people to contribute to strategy development and execution, and wider COP 29 strategic engagement. Articulate the applicability of your strategy/engagements to the day-to-day work of junior employees to maximize engagement. 👩🔬 Youth Representation: Ensure young leaders are included in country and business delegations and are connected to existing youth constituencies (YOUNGO!!) . Create spaces outside of COP, and throughout the year, for young people in the private sector to engage, learn and connect. (PS. join /support your local Leaders 2050 network 😉) 👩💼 Intergenerational Dialogue: Create opportunities to facilitate intergenerational dialogue, including safe spaces for young professionals to engage and challenge the perspectives of senior leaders. 🧠 Focus on Intersectional / Systems Change: Break down siloes to address climate in the context of the wider poly-crisis. Take a just transition approach to jointly solving climate, nature, health, gender, and development goals, leveraging renewable energy and climate finance as catalysts for systems-level adaptation and change. Many thanks to those who joined us, and do reach out to join your local country Leaders 2050 network! #ClimateWeekNYC Key Takeaways: Day Three 🍎 Take a look at our highlights from day three of New York Climate Week! Event: ‘Flipping The Script: Mobilising the Youth Perspective on Positive Tipping Points’ hosted by Earth Minutes and Global Optimism, in partnership with University of Exeter and Open Planet 🍎 The University of Exeter’s new report outlines the regulatory mandates needed to trigger a global cascade of ‘positive tipping points’. 🍎 By making the move from polluting fossil fuels to clean technologies, carbon emissions could be reduced in the power, transport and heating sectors by at least 75% in 2050. 🍎 Policies to advance the reduction of carbon emissions in any one of these sectors will help bring forward the tipping point in the other three. 🍎 What are the positive tipping points in your community that can cascade towards the future we envision and deserve? 🍎 To read the full report, go to: https://lnkd.in/eYrfPCAD A huge thank you to Freya Newman and Juanita Silva for bringing this workshop to life with us, to Garth Davies and Tim Lenton for their scientific wisdom, and to our wonderful youth facilitators Kat, Dominique, Victor, Mitzi, Helen & Janine! Stay tuned for some youth-led content from the workshop coming soon 👀 Event: ‘How to Overcome Division in a Multipolar World’ hosted by Global Nation & Global Citizen at Goals House 🍎 Over the last 70 years, each generation has become more internationalist than the last - until Gen Z, who have the same level of internationalism as the Boomer generation. 🍎 “We have built a system for very few, which means lots of people are left out.” Amitabh Behar, Executive Director of Oxfam International 🍎 Gen Z are skeptical about the institutions that their parents and grandparents trusted. They feel frustration and anger towards the systems that have been built by past generations. 🍎 How can global institutions better engage with young people to build sustainable systems that benefit the current and future generations? Event: Symbiofutures hosted by Symbiocene 🍎 We ended our day at Farm. One for the Symbiofutures event, run by the wonderful Isaias Hernandez and Kalpana Arias 🌿 #youth #youngpeople #youthvoices #youthleadership #climateaction #communications #research #creativity #positivetippingpoints #nextgeneration #sustainablefuture

The Power of Stories of Hope and Possibility hosted by Futerra 🍎 “We are a single strand in a web of life” Atossa Soltani, Amazon Sacred Headwaters 🍎 We need to shift mindsets away from human supremacy and towards sacred reciprocity, through connecting to nature. 🍎 Through experiental learning and human-centred storytelling, we can inspire people to see themselves as a living part of the Earth, rather than separate to it. 🍎 As communicators, we need to break out of the advertising mindset of ‘messaging’ and move towards building connections with our natural world and building trusting relationships with one other. Event: From Mobilising Funds to Mobilising Funders hosted by The Iris Project Synchronicity Earth Global Youth Biodiversity Network 🍎 There is a disconnect between what philanthropists want to fund, and what young people need funding for. 🍎 Funding goes beyond capital - it can include resources, networks and security to support youth in their project mobilisation. 🍎 Some funders associate ‘youth’ with inexperience and risk. As communicators, help young people to challenge this mindset by showcasing the value of funding innovative youth-led solutions? #ClimateWeekNYC: Day Two 🌎 Check out our highlights from our second day at New York Climate Week 2024! Event: Leaders 2050 COP29 Youth Consultation hosted by KPMG 🍎 “We need to change the minds of decision makers, or change the decision makers.” Fleur Newman, Action Empowerment Unit Lead, UN Climate Change secretariat 🍎 2050 is not a next generation problem. 🍎 The current generation of young professionals will still be in the work force by 2050, and they will ultimately inherit what current leaders leave behind. 🍎 Young professionals feel that the private sector needs to be actively engaged in the COP process, through meaningful action, diplomacy and intergenerational dialogue. Thanks to Avery Johnstone & Maya Elia for hosting such an insightful session! Event: Clean Creatives Happy Hour 🍎 It was inspiring to be in a room jam-packed with other climate creatives from across the globe! 🍎 Creativity can go beyond creative industries! To tackle climate issues, need other industries to get creative too. 🍎 In the midst of Climate Week chaos, we bumped into the lovely Qiyun Woo after recently admiring her work online. #climateaction #cop29 #youthleadership #youngprofessionals #nextgeneration #leaders2050
