The East Midlands has huge potential as a home for advanced logistics. Alongside the largest dedicated airfreight airport in the UK, it also has rail freight connections and major road links to all four points of the compass. The presence of some of the biggest names in global logistics – among them Amazon, DHL and GXO – bear witness to both the central position of the region and its strategic importance to international industries such as the aerospace and automotive sectors. Our East Midlands Intermodal Park (EMIP) is located adjacent to the nationally significant Toyota manufacturing plant. The site has the potential to become one of the next generation of rail connected business parks. The proposed investment would also enable a significant modal shift, from road to rail freight, reducing carbon emissions for businesses within the region. Site specifications and benefits: ➡ Expands national network of Strategic Rail Freight Interchanges. ➡ 5.2 million square feet of state-of-the-art manufacturing and distribution space. ➡ Provides value-added accommodation for a variety of advanced manufacturers. ➡ Potential for production, storage and use of hydrogen. We’re not just committed to net zero – we’re investing to ensure our region is at the forefront of the green growth transition. We're helping tackle climate change by attracting investment in new, low carbon energy and sustainable industries as we want the region to capitalise on the huge opportunities available to our economy: ✅ We can act as a catalyst for low carbon energy production at Ratcliffe Power Station ✅ We’re a lead partner in East Midlands Hydrogen, the UK’s largest inland hydrogen cluster ✅ We’re working with University of Nottingham and Loughborough University on a Zero Carbon Innovation Centre, driving new decarbonisation solutions ✅ We’re supporting the decarbonisation of freight and logistics through the work of Maritime Transport Ltd's rail freight terminal, which will take thousands more lorries off the roads. ✅ We're leading the Advisory Board of the East Midlands Airport Green Futures study, exploring pathways for decarbonisation of activities in and around the UKs largest dedicated air cargo operation. We’ll be making an announcement soon about a new initiative which will help develop new skills for the clean energy future – meaning netzero becomes an opportunity for people and businesses. #EastMidlands #GreenGrowth #NetZero #GreenEnergy #Investment

⭐ Excited to see BBC News coverage of our new partnership with GKN Aerospace. ✈ The BBC quotes Professor Chris Gerada: "The vision of net-zero air travel is within our sights... To get there, we must push the limits of what is technically possible." 🤝 The £44m H2FlyGHT project sees GKN Aerospace lead with partners Parker Meggitt, University of Nottingham and The University of Manchester, supported by the UK Government through the Aerospace Technology Institute programme. It was announced at Farnborough Airshow with Department for Business and Trade. 👩🔧 As part of the project we kicked-off a £5.3 million programme of research to support the development, manufacture and test of a revolutionary cryogenic hydrogen-electric propulsion system. 🥇 It'll be one of the first to use our new hydrogen propulsion systems facility, made possible by the £70 million from Research England and industry co-investment - so that we can build open-access research facilities and programmes to achieve #transportdecarbonisation. 🏡 The facility builds on our manufacturing capabilities, including at our new Zero Carbon Innovation Centre funded by East Midlands Freeport. As the historic home of global giant Rolls-Royce, the East Midlands is one the UK’s hotspots for aerospace research, design and manufacturing. This is why it’s one of the key focuses for our work to secure inward investment, with our three tax sites located close to industry supply chains and the UK’s biggest dedicated airfreight airport. East Midlands Freeport is a great example of public- private partnership, with six local authorities and six industry partners coming together around a shared vision for growth which delivers benefits to local communities and the UK economy as a whole. Let’s take a look at just three of our market-leading private sector partners: East Midlands Airport, part of the Manchester Airport Group, has the UK’s biggest share of the freight-only aircraft market. SEGRO plc is an owner, asset manager and developer of modern warehousing and industrial property, including its Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway (SLPEMG) a 700-acre development, part of the Freeport’s EMAGIC site. Goodman is a specialist industrial property and digital infrastructure group which owns, develop and manage high-quality, sustainable properties, including the East Midlands Intermodal Park.
