Our architecture and interior team undertook the complete refurbishment and extension of a historic 19th century villa within the St John’s Wood Conservation Area. A contemporary Portland Stone rear extension has been added to provide the family with a flexible space that connects physically and visually with the garden beyond. The space is completed by light and neutral furnishings selected by our interior team, bringing calm and comfort to this spacious family home. The restoration includes a stunning bespoke kitchen by bulthaup that connects the original house to the light filled extension.

About us
Since our inception in 2004, Marek Wojciechowski Architects have been driven by the pursuit of quality - a belief that our surroundings directly influence the quality of our lives. We believe that new buildings and architectural innovation are only sustainable if they are entrenched in thoroughly rational analyses of function, context, materiality, and environmental impact. We believe in curiosity. We never stop asking questions and looking for new and innovative ways of solving problems. We believe in integrity, both in the way we work and how we allow every building we design to tell its story. We take joy in repairing and reinvigorating the city we live in with sustainable, timeless design to inspire this generation and the next. By the year 2030, the embodied energy used in the construction of buildings will far outweigh the operational energy expunged by buildings over their lifecycle. For every project, we look to retain, reuse and reimagine existing buildings and structures. Finding new uses for old buildings minimises energy consumption associated with demolition and construction. Sustainable architecture begins with designing for longer lifecycles and the reuse of existing buildings and structures. Looking to create more inclusive and viable futures, MWA considers adaptive reuse to be one of the best strategies to address the climate crisis and promote social justice. Reuse keeps the culture of an area alive, bridging between old and new as projects push the boundaries of circular and adaptive design. Where we do create new buildings, or extend old buildings, we commit to the highest standards of sustainable design, and liaise with specialist partners to ensure that we are employing the most up-to-date technologies.

MWA have recently completed works for the retrofit of a 30,000sqft office building in the Heart of Westminster. The design team worked with the client, Westminster City Council (WCC) and residents to develop the scheme to bring an existing 1980s building back to life and provide high-quality headquarters for our end-user client. The Planning Officers welcomed the proposed new ground floor shopfront, noting its potential to activate and enliven the street frontage, as well as the proposed rear extension, which reflects the wider scheme in its detailing and fenestration. Additionally, sustainability features such as the inclusion of photovoltaic panels (PVs), dedicated cycle parking, EV charging points, and the reduction in car parking spaces were all positively received. We’re excited to announce the completion of a transformative fitout for a new healthcare clinic in the iconic Grade II* Listed Battersea Power Station. Now open, this unique medical centre features a pharmacy offering cosmetic and medical services, a clinic with diagnostics and imaging facilities, minor procedure rooms, and dentistry services. Given the historical significance of Battersea Power Station, MWA had to work within the constraints of the existing building fabric, heritage legislation, and the Battersea Power Station design guidance. Additionally, compliance with Health Building Notes was essential to ensure the facility met the Care Quality Commission and General Pharmaceutical Council requirements. This project leverages the historical features and materials of the building to create a high-end experience for patients.
