The benefits that green space bring to cities and development go beyond increased wellbeing and access to nature to create a greater economic momentum. Quite simply; they support more desirable places. A new study by Trust for Public Land has found that cities that invest in parks and open spaces "attract a diverse workforce and, in turn, business, employment opportunities and visionary real estate development that contribute to improved quality-of-life in cities." We couldn't agree more. That's why we've put 6.5 acres of park at the heart of Mayfield. Investment in authentic, biodiverse green space is an investment in the quality of life of the people who will live, work and play here. And that benefit spreads beyond our own 24 acre boundary to more widely benefit #Manchester as a city. The study concludes with five key outcomes around public and private sectors working together, embracing different types of space to meet community needs, and promoting inclusivity – each of these strongly aligns with our own aims at Mayfield. Working with our partners, we're proud to have opened up the River Medlock that runs through the site, as well as creating a super cool kids' play area and providing different kinds of spaces to sit and enjoy the greenery. https://lnkd.in/eqwx57nF #urbanregeneration #brownfield #biodiversity 📸 Richard Bloom

A few years ago, #Mayfield was a a patch of overlooked land behind #Manchester Piccadilly Station - now, a thriving green and blue space which is a hub for the local #community and the start of a growing #neighbourhood. And recognising the immense effort that has been put into transforming this urban oasis, the 6.5-acre park has now been awarded with a Green Flag Award, a prestigious world-wide accolade marking the city's first new green space in 100 years as truly exemplary. Our gratitude to the Green Flag Award judges for this recognition, who noted: “In our 20+ years of judging we have never seen such an outstanding urban park". This recognizes our commitment to providing a beautifully maintained and environmentally #sustainable green space for the community. Thank you to everyone who made this achievement possible - from the Mayfield Partership, LandsecU+I, Manchester City Council, Transport for Greater Manchester and LCR Property, to the brilliant park designers Studio Egret West, and many more including Buro Happold, P.P. O'Connor, Civic Engineers, Layer.studio, and Massey & Harris (Eng) Ltd. 📸: Richard Bloom #GreenFlagAward #CommunityPride #sustainableliving #MayfieldPark #NatureInTheCity #GreenSpaces #nature

We’re very sad to hear of the passing of Sir Howard Bernstein. Through his long career, Sir Howard served the City of Manchester with great distinction, passion and vision. As Chief Executive he was central to the formation of The Mayfield Partnership and as we continue our journey to transform this part of the city over the coming years we’ll make sure we deliver a fitting tribute to an inspiring man. His family and friends are in our thoughts.

NEXT WEEK: Mayfield will host the RHS Urban Show at Depot Mayfield. Focusing on the growing movement of urban gardening and city gardeners, the show explores the connection between horticulture, wellbeing and sustainable living. 🌼 Why visit? 🌿 With over 80% of the UK population living in towns and cities, the new show will enable more urban dwellers to #garden, especially where access to green spaces can be limited. The RHS Urban Show, which will take place 18–21 April, will be an active, engaging, immersive experience. RHS Show Manager Lex Falleyn says: “We’re going to have a mixture of content, retail, talks, with maybe some practical workshops mixed in as well. The content is going to be #horticultural, but through the lens of popular culture and interests – whether that’s linked with food and grow your own, or interior design and art, and everything has an emphasis on wellbeing. 🌱 What else is going on? 🌷 Alongside the main show itself, the past, present and future of #Mayfield will be told through an art installation and exhibition of historical #botanical fabrics. Displayed in a former railway arch next door, the free exhibition will reveal fabric prints of exotic, imaginary gardens that were produced on the site almost 300 years ago when the land was owned by the cloth merchant Thomas Hoyle. Called "Dream Gardens of Mayfield", the exhibition will chart the history and #regeneration of the area, from its time at the centre of a thriving textile industry, when up to 10 miles of fabric were produced on the site each day, through its years of abandonment and neglect, right up to the present day where it has been transformed into Mayfield Park. 🌺 Find out more 🌻 We'll also be offering free walking tours of the park, hosted by the team that designed it. The Park Walks will begin at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm from Thursday 18th to Saturday 20th April, where you can find out more about Mayfield Park, its history, and the future of this exciting new neighbourhood of #Manchester – meet us at the arches opposite the play area to join [no booking required]. #urbangreening #biodviersity #manchester #manchesterlife #comingsoon 📸 Richard Bloom Find out more about the show and pick up tickets here: https://lnkd.in/ekXMG7Yq

"Green spaces are all about people and how they use them." This week, members of the #Mayfield project team joined an expert panel at #MIPIM2024 to discuss #Manchester as a pioneer for urban greening. "The Mayfield Partnership is transforming a huge piece of city. The real success [of the park] will be how it entwines itself within the wider neighbourhood" said David West. But why is #biodiversity in city centres like Manchester so important? And how do you do it well? 🌿 Engaging with local communities is essential for developing and maintaining successful urban neighbourhoods 🌿 Authenticity and clarity of purpose are key to success: this includes the reuse and refurbishment of structures and materials surrounding green spaces to tackle carbon reduction and unlock environmental value 🌿 Green and blue infrastructure is also crucial for health and wellbeing, as well as creating beautiful places that people will love and benefit from Catch up here ➡  https://lnkd.in/eP4fpbrM Panel: Kat Hanna, co-managing director, London, at Avison Young │UK Muyiwa Oki PRIBA, president at RIBA Caroline Simpson, chief executive at Stockport Council David West, lead designer at #Mayfield Chaired by Stephen O'Malley, CEO at Civic Engineers.
