CELEBRATING 50 YEARS – 4/50 The Green Skywalk: An Innovative Transformation for Worcester ONE led the visionary transformation of a disused viaduct the Green Skywalk—a pedestrian and cycleway, that will create an exciting new experience for residents and visitors alike. This high-level route seamlessly connects key destinations across Worcester, including The Hive, the University of Worcester City Centre Campus, Foregate Street Station, the Racecourse, the Arena, and the city's main shopping areas. The project repurposes a long-abandoned viaduct that runs parallel to the existing rail viaduct, integrating a new bridge to create a vibrant and accessible urban link. By reimagining historic infrastructure, ONE delivered a sustainable and innovative solution that will enhance connectivity across the city. Additionally, a new lower walkway is being created through the removal of an existing building on Foregate Street, with work already underway. It is hoped that future funding will support the addition of a high walk to complement the ground-level low walk. We were delighted to attend the official opening of Lifehouse Elim Church in Worcester. ONE’s multi-disciplinary team was commissioned for the internal refurbishment of the grade II listed church, which included incorporating the neighbouring former residential property, to improve and enhance the existing church facilities. CELEBRATING 50 YEARS - 3/50 For this week’s reflection we are looking back at the expansion of Coundon Court School, where ONE’s multi-disciplinary team was commissioned by Coventry City Council. The design from ONE included a fantastic new stand-alone teaching block with 16 classrooms around a central double height atrium, SEN facilities, offices and group rooms, an extension to the school’s main hall to facilitate increased pupil numbers for exams as well as a large outdoor canopy to provide outdoor dining space. The sustainable design of the new teaching block incorporates louvres on the facade to assist with night-time cooling, sun shading to east, south and west facades and photovoltaic panels on the roof. These new teaching facilities made a great difference to the school community. 🔨 Progress at Adanac Health and Innovation Campus 🔨 It’s time for the first construction update of 2025, on site at the Sterile Services Department and Aseptic Pharmacy for University Hospital Southampton NHS FT. Willmott Dixon continues to make great progress with key activities on-site, including cladding installation, aseptic pharmacy clean room finishes and core building elements. Key updates: - The first non-gassing and gassing isolators have arrived on-site, marking a significant milestone. - Rear yard concrete works are now complete, and external works are progressing to form the front car park. - The mains electricity connection was made in December and commissioning and testing has begun. Drawing inspiration from its unique location on the axis between the Oyster fields of Luoma Lake and the Santaishan National Park - home to the renowned Natian Flower Farm in Suqian, China - the design seamlessly blends cultural symbolism with natural surroundings. Inspired by the elegance of the Lotus flower and the Oyster pearl, both iconic in Chinese culture, the concept integrates cutting-edge sustainable features, ensuring its legacy as a facility for both today’s audiences and future generations. We’re excited to have begun work to deliver a 420-pupil primary school near Burton upon Trent! Drakelow Primary School – the latest in a long line of educational establishments to be delivered by Clegg Construction - will be sustainably located at the heart of a 2,200-home residential estate currently under construction by client Countryside Partnerships on the former Drakelow power station site. Designed by multi-disciplinary consultants ONE Creative environments (ONE) , the new school’s indoor and outdoor areas will maximise the learning experience, with classrooms flowing onto outdoor teaching spaces to allow for integration of inside and outside teaching. New sports facilities, including a 3G pitch, will be included, as well as a habitat area to provide forest school experiences. The building’s heating capacity will be met by externally mounted air source heat pumps and the school will benefit from underfloor heating fed from a low-temperature hot water system from the central heat pump plant. The RICS award winner for Design through Innovation, it was a pioneering development and the UK’s first combined facility of its kind in 40 years.
