With just 6 years remaining to achieve #SDG2, the challenge of hunger continues to escalate globally, with African smallholder farming families facing some of the most severe impacts. 🌍 However, there is hope: the Brazil-led Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. The Global Alliance offers innovative solutions and collaborative approaches that can help address the root causes of hunger and provide sustainable pathways to improve food security and nutrition. By leveraging this alliance, we can drive progress towards achieving #SDG2 and ensure that the most vulnerable communities receive the support they need. 📙 Read more about how the Global Alliance can help turn the tide on hunger: https://bit.ly/47mrwix #FoodSecurity | #SustainableDevelopment | #GlobalAlliance | G20 Brasil 2024 | African Development Bank Group | African Food Changemakers | Pan African Climate Justice Alliance PACJA

Working to bring action on SDG2 and the Global Goals
About us
The SDG2 Advocacy Hub coordinates global campaigning and advocacy to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: To end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture by 2030. The Hub brings together NGOs, advocacy groups, civil society, the private sector and UN agencies to share expertise, ideas, and to collaborate on campaigns so that our overall impact as a community of influencers is increased. With 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve by 2030, the Hub offers a new game plan – a way of working that engages the largest group of diverse actors to work together on SDG2 priorities, while focusing on individual specialist areas of work that will ultimately meet the targets. The Sustainable development Goals and SDG2: Zero Hunger Adopted by all countries on September 25th 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. For the goals to be reached, everyone needs to do their part: governments, the private sector and civil society. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years. However all goals are interconnected and the key to achieving one will often involve tackling issues that overlap with another. How the Hub works: The Hub offers strategic guidance on public engagement to the entire community working in and around SDG 2 by providing direction around global campaigns and support for grass roots, country-level initiatives. Members can network, access content, advocacy tools and campaign guidance via our online platform.

📉Public financing is crucial for food security and nutrition, yet #SOFI2024 revealed a worrying trend: public spending on agriculture in low- & middle-income countries is still grossly inadequate, writes World Vision's Andrea Polo Galante: https://bit.ly/4ensb5M. #GoodFood4All | #FoodSecurity

🟡🟢 Smallholder Farmers are an Investment Opportunity At #AFSForum2024, Milindi Sibomana, PhD of One Acre Fund in Rwanda challenged us to rethink how we view smallholder farmers. Instead of seeing them as charity cases, he asserts: "We must view farmers as business people and develop tailored solutions that meet their needs." Amid growing climate impacts that are leading to hunger, smallholders have the experience and expertise to fight back through regenerative food systems. By they lack the financing. By looking at farmers as entrepreneurs and investing in their efforts means creating opportunities for growth and innovation. #SmallholderFarmers | #AgricultureInvestment | #SustainableDevelopment | #FoodSecurity #GoodFood4All | International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) | AGRA

📣 Nearly 2.33 billion people lack adequate food, with 281.6 million experiencing acute hunger. Without concerted efforts, projections show 582 million could face chronic undernourishment by 2030. Join us at the United Nations General Assembly for this session: “Partnerships to Catalyze Action to End Hunger and Malnutrition.” The side event will spotlight the global food crisis and reflect on the impact of rising inequality, poverty, malnutrition and hunger on children and vulnerable groups while showcasing successful partnerships that unite stakeholders to tackle these critical challenges. The event calls on world leaders to endorse the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty and mobilise the support of the international community. 🗓 25 Sept, 2024 📍 777 United Nations Plaza 8th floor 📝 RSVP: https://bit.ly/4d1V0Dm RSVP now! 🚨On July 24, Brazil hosted a few major announcements; 1️⃣The United Nations released the State of Food Security and Nutrition Report which revealed that 733 Million people around the world are hungry. Unlike past reports, #SOFI2024 provides an in-depth analysis of the current state of global food security, highlighting critical opportunities to scale good food for all to ensure no one is left behind. 2️⃣ Brazil, on their #G20 Presidency, announced the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, a groundbreaking initiative set to mobilise countries and donors to implement the solutions that work to achieve SDG1 and SDG2🤝. 📢 As we approach the #UNGA79 and #G20 Summit, it’s imperative that we mobilise countries to rally behind the Global Alliance to turn the tide on #SDG2. We call on all NGOs to join us in advocating for robust and immediate action. ✍️ We urge organisations to sign this open letter to stop call on world leaders to do rally behind the alliance: https://bit.ly/4cQTZxY #GoodFood4All | #GlobalAlliance | #ZeroHunger | #FoodSecurity #G20Summit | World Vision | World Vision Malawi | FAO | CGIAR | International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) | UNICEF | World Health Organization | International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) | World Food Programme | Global Health Strategies

Congratulations to Zimbabwe's Tinotenda A. Mhiko for winning this year's #AfricaFoodPrize. His leadership at Zimbabwe's Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA) is driving irrigation, crop diversity and sustainability and keeping the #SDG2 dream alive in #Zimbabwe. This year's award recognizes the importance of transformative leadership and stewardship of African institutions to deliver transformative ideas that scale access to good and nutritious food for all on the continent. Tinotenda, a youthful and visionary leader, took the helm of ARDA to revolutionize agriculture in Zimbambwe. Under his watch, the area under irrigation at ARDA farms expanded dramatically, growing from 6,000 hectares in 2016 to 10,000 hectares by 2020. With ambitious plans, he aims to reach 15,000 hectares by 2025, surpassing the targets set by the government's National Irrigation Policy and Strategy. 🌍Excited for the Africa Food Systems Forum kick off today? Because we are! Come through to the culinary village to discuss sustainable agriculture, innovation, nutrition and food security across the continent. We have amazing #Chefs of the Chefs Manifesto who will curate thematic meals, showcasing how we can #Innovate, Accelerate, and #Scale from the farm to the plate, using local ingredients. If you love #beans, of course we have the CGIAR and CIAT's Pan Africa Bean Research Alliance and #BeansisHow on stage for all the three days, outlining why beans are great for farmers, African soils and nutrition. And we won’t just stop there. We are also here to remind people why this gathering matters. Our colleagues from #HungryforAction have brought the #EmptyPlates activation to remind everyone why we must act together to save lives, build resilience and secure the future of #GoodFood4All #AFSF2024 | #GoodFood4All | @AGRA | CGIAR | MoyosoreOluwa O. | Kiran Jethwa | #AFSForum2024 | FAO | International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
