  • Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are at the heart of the construction industry, driving innovation, collaboration, and excellence across the sector. The SME of the Year category at the SECBE Constructing Excellence Awards recognises organisations that exemplify best practice and lead the way in procurement, innovation, culture, productivity, digital transformation, and more. The UK government defines SMEs as businesses with fewer than 250 employees and an annual turnover of under £50 million, covering micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. These businesses form a crucial part of the supply chain and play a vital role in shaping the future of construction. What are we looking for? ☑️ Commitment to People – Professional development, leadership pathways, inclusivity, and mental health support ☑️ Safety-First Culture – Strong systems, processes, and a focus on wellbeing ☑️ Industry Impact – Addressing the skills shortage, encouraging diverse new entrants, and nurturing talent ☑️ Financial Sustainability – A future-focused strategy for long-term success ☑️ Community Engagement – Actively supporting local initiatives and giving back A huge thank you to Baxall Construction for sponsoring this award and recognising the vital role SMEs play in the industry. Best of luck to all entrants – we look forward to seeing the inspiring work being showcased! 🎉 To enter the CE SECBE Awards 2025 - https://buff.ly/3ZAjNuN #SECBEAwards #SMEoftheYear #ConstructingExcellence #Innovation #Collaboration #BuiltEnvironment #Construction

  • 🦺 Mind the Gap: Can Mentoring Bridge the Construction Skills Shortage? The UK construction sector faces a major challenge - a shortage of 250,000 skilled workers by 2028. With an ageing workforce, declining apprenticeships, and increasing competition from other industries, attracting and retaining talent has never been more critical. Maria Angliss, People & Organisational Development Consultant and SECBE's Constructing Excellence Thought Leader, explores a simple yet powerful solution: mentoring. 🔹 Why Mentoring? - A cost-effective way to upskill and retain staff - Boosts employee engagement and morale - Enhances the Employee Value Proposition (EVP), making construction a more attractive career choice - 98% of Fortune 500 companies use mentoring - why shouldn’t construction? 📢 The Business Case for Mentoring - Employees in mentoring programmes are 49% less likely to leave - Reduced errors, stronger teams, and higher productivity - Supports career development at all levels, not just for rising stars - Maria argues that mentoring isn’t just an option - it’s a strategic necessity to bridge the skills gap and future-proof the sector. 👉 Read Maria’s full blog here: https://lnkd.in/edh8Rh5D #MentoringMatters #ConstructionSkills #TalentDevelopment #FutureOfConstruction #ConstructingExcellence

I really enjoyed attending my first London Constructing Excellence Club event and AGAM this evening. Great meeting a diverse mix of professionals from across the industry and learning more about the challenges, work and perspectives of those in attendance. Valuable insights from Richard Hill, Currie & Brown and Derek Rees, SECBE in particular. Lots to reflect on and consider in terms of the talent dynamic, economic forecast and exciting innovations in the immediate and foreseeable future. I'd recommend getting involved as, at only £80 p.a. for 10 events, it's an inexpensive way to expand your mind, knowledge, network and professional value! #lcecAGAM #energipeople #lcecevents
