In one of Auckland’s most sought-after suburbs, Summerset St Johns reimagines what it means to live and thrive in a retirement community. When complete, the development will feature 7 buildings, including a 7-level residents' hub, offering everything from a cozy library to a vibrant café, a serene indoor pool and cinema. For future residents, it’s more than a place to live—it’s a lifestyle in the making. Working within the challenges of protected trees and strict site regulations, our design delivers tailored solutions, including advanced ventilation systems for each building and backup power for essential care facilities. The result will be a community thoughtfully designed for living well. The Adelaide Botanic High School expansion adds a striking 7-storey vertical extension, blending with the original campus and delivering a space designed for the thinkers and dreamers of tomorrow. From rooftop sports courts to food tech labs, entrepreneurial hubs and performing arts facilities, this campus extension is packed with opportunities for students to explore, create and connect. Behind the scenes, clever thinking shaped the way this space functions. With no room for a bulky transformer, our electrical design upgraded the existing power supply, threading cable pathways through the basement to deliver the extra capacity the school needed – all while keeping every inch of space usable and functional. REDUCE, ELECTRIFY, ADAPT | What’s one thing asset owners can do to progress electrification of their assets? Three industry leaders from across Tetra Tech High Performance Buildings Group, Nick Thurlow, Global Market Sector Leader for Existing Offices for #NDY; Laurence Johnson, Director of Hoare Lea's Utility & Energy Infrastructure group; and Zoe Roberts, Senior Energy Consultant with Glumac, met to talk about the challenges and barriers our clients are facing when it comes to electrifying their existing assets along with some of the solutions to these issues. Throughout the conversation the key message was clear: just get started. Electrification may seem daunting, but it's really about replacing familiar systems. While challenges are inevitable, taking the first steps will reveal real obstacles and the lessons learned from others will make the process easier. WHERE HISTORY AND SUSTAINABILITY ALIGN | The Australian War Memorial (AWM) in Canberra is showing how you can honour the past while charging into the future. Driving this transformation is a geothermal energy system that’s smart, sustainable and efficient. By harnessing the earth’s stable temperature, this system powers a massive 145,000 m² site, slashing energy use and reducing CO₂ emissions equivalent to taking 88 buses off the road each year. It’s the largest geothermal setup in Australia - and the first of its kind to combine water source heat pumps with electromagnetic oil free compressors. It’s impressive as it sounds. So impressive in fact that the Memorial was honoured with the 2024 Gold Award for 'Encouraging Environmental Sustainability through Procurement' at the Commonwealth Procurement and Contract Management Awards for Excellence. This is engineering with purpose, delivering a sustainable foundation for a place that holds deep meaning for so many.
