What a milestone. The B1M and Procore Technologies' Get Construction Talking campaign has now raised more than $600,000 for construction mental health charities worldwide, and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone that's donated so far. We’re more than halfway to our $1M goal, but the journey is far from over 👉 https://lnkd.in/e6XrU-uz Commenting on the news, Procore’s CEO Tooey Courtemanche said: “Since launching this campaign, many leaders of some of the largest construction companies in the world have reached out to me to reaffirm its importance. In fact, one of our largest contributors so far was a personal donation from the CEO of an ENR 400 company. It’s encouraging to see the industry come together to break the stigma around this topic.” The B1M’s founder Fred Mills, who has publicly shared his own struggles with mental health as part of the campaign, said: “It's amazing to see Get Construction Talking reach this point and testament to the widespread desire there is across the industry to address this issue. Getting this right is one of the keys to the future success of construction. If we don’t get this right, the skills crisis will continue, the labor shortage will continue, and we will lose our most valuable, and important resource – people.” Funds raised from the Get Construction Talking campaign are going to support The Lighthouse Charity, Construction Sport and Mates in Mind in the UK, MATES in Construction in Australia and the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention in the US. You can learn more, find links to support, make a donation and see the actions that you can start to take in our free toolkit over at 👉 getconstructiontalking.org #GetConstructionTalking #mentalhealth #wellbeing #construction #engineering

The UK government has backed plans for a third runway at London’s Heathrow Airport and invited proposals to be put forward. Announcing the move, Chancellor Rachel Reeves said adding a third runway to what is one of the world’s busiest airports could add up to 100,000 jobs. The last plans put forward in 2019 indicate that the third runway would be positioned to the north west of the current airfield, demolishing the towns of Harmondsworth and Longford and partly bridging over the M25 motorway. Plans for a third runway have been discussed for more than 60 years, almost since the airport’s original transition to becoming commercial hub. Several UK governments have announced support for a runway, only to see the project meet significant opposition in the consultation and planning processes. Many living in the towns to be cleared have had the prospect of the third runway hanging over them for decades and have been unable to find buyers for their homes. Some welcome the chance to finally have their properties compulsory purchased so they can move on with their lives. 📷 Heathrow Airport #infrastructure #aviation #construction #engineering

Saudi Arabia has completed a new hotel carved into the Hejaz Mountains. Designed by Oppenheim Architecture, Desert Rock forms part of the wider Red Sea development and is inspired by the Nabataean civilisation, which once flourished in the Arabian Peninsula and is renowned for its rock-carved architecture. In a statement, Chad Oppenheim, Founding Principal of Oppenheim Architecture, said: “Desert Rock embodies our philosophy of connecting architecture to the spirit of place. By respecting and enhancing the natural environment, we have created a sanctuary that allows guests to experience the beauty and power of the landscape in deeply personal and meaningful ways.” 🎥 Oppenheim Architecture #construction #architecture #engineering #desert

Britain’s new Hinkley Point C nuclear plant demands some extreme engineering. Construction teams have even called in the world’s largest land based crane — “Big Carl” — for some of the heaviest lifts, including positioning the dome over the first reactor. When it completes, this vast site will produce around 7% of the UK’s total electricity supply. But things have been far from plain sailing. The original 2025 completion date has slipped to 2029, with full power reached by 2031, and the budget has ballooned. What started at £18BN could end up as high as £46BN after inflation. That’s around $57BN and would make Hinkley Point C the most expensive nuclear power plant ever constructed. These twin towers are currently under construction in Guangzhou, China. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), the 204-metre buildings will form Sany IROOTECH's new headquarters. Their diagrid structures help to improve their resistance to earthquakes while minimising the number of moment connections, making them more efficient to build. The skyscrapers are rising from an elevated podium above a new public plaza. The project topped-out in 2023 and is due to fully complete later in 2025. 📷 SOM #architecture #engineering #construction #skyscraper #China

These Foster + Partners-designed towers in Manila are being constructed with lightweight exoskeletons that help to reduce their overall concrete content by more than 65,000 tonnes. The external structural system at the new BDO Unibank Inc. Campus also creates column free spaces inside, helps to shade the building facades and improves the towers’ abilities to withstand earthquakes. The towers step back at regular intervals as they rise, with triple-storey amenity spaces located at every successive setback. The building envelopes are partly shaded by woven metal mesh infill screens inspired by traditional weaving patterns. At night, the facades will be illuminated so the buildings resemble glowing lanterns. In a statement, Foster + Partners said the project will “make a positive contribution to Manila by transforming five separate urban plots into a singular integrated campus.” It added: “Two high-rise towers touch the ground lightly and frame a new triple volume public space that is sheltered from heavy rainfall and direct sun exposure. The open ground plane incorporates lush planting and an array of artworks, to enhance the public realm and improve the quality of life in the city.” 📷 Foster + Partners

This breathtaking new art museum sits on a lake in Hangzhou. Seen from above, the Yohoo Museum, designed by Aedas, forms two interlocking jade rings, nodding to the precious mineral that’s been used in important rituals since ancient times. The museum’s island is accessed from sweeping scenic trails across the water designed to help visitors take in their surroundings. In a statement, Aedas explained that the building’s design “symbolises the connection between the culture of Liangzhu and the Grand Canal, serving as a link that bridges the ancient and the modern.” 📷 Aedas #architecture #engineering #construction #building #China
