The Carbon Trust reposted this
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of speaking at the European Food Forum held at the European Parliament. The event focused on the Green Claims Directive and empowering consumers and businesses in the green transition, particularly navigating EU policy and green claims within an evolving regulatory landscape. I discussed how independent schemes, like the Carbon Trust label, can support environmental protection, competitiveness and innovation within the draft EU Green Claims Directive framework. It was an honour to share the panel with Pietro Fiocchi from ENVI, Sybe de Vries from Utrecht University, Agnese Ruggiero from FoodDrinkEurope Stefano Cavedagna from IMCO, Blanca Morales from BEUC - The European Consumer Organisation, Massimiliano Di Domenico from Mondelēz International & Emilie Bourgoin from REWE Group. Key takeaways from the panel: - There is generally strong support for the purpose of the GCD such as clarity of communication, and the need for transparent and factual information for consumers. - There is a need for simplification to avoid ambiguity of interpretation of the directive with a clear message to avoid burdening businesses with additional reporting. - There is strong support for verification before any climate related claim is made

💄💅 ‘Cruelty-free’, ‘vegan’, ‘organic’, ‘recyclable’—the beauty industry has a history of listening to conscious consumers. But while beauty brands are tackling things like waste, deforestation, and microplastics, one question remains: Is carbon the industry’s blind spot? With 41% of consumers feeling guilty about the environmental impact of their beauty products, the pressure is on for brands to step up. Yet, little investment has been made into product carbon footprint transparency. We explored with Provenance how the industry can step up on its climate action ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eF69-y4Y Jessi Baker MBE

🚨 EU Omnibus: What’s next for businesses and sustainability reporting? The EU Commission’s Omnibus package proposes regulatory rollbacks designed to ease administrative burdens of climate reporting. While these changes could simplify compliance and strengthen competitiveness, they also bring uncertainty for businesses navigating sustainability disclosures. In a world where sustainability claims are everywhere, the Carbon Trust label helps you identify the ones you can trust. 🔎 The Carbon Trust label directory further provides a transparent way to find out more about a brand’s verified product decarbonisation efforts, so you can be sure that they are committed to measuring and cutting their emissions. Check out the trailblazing brands leading the way on the directory ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eH9-aXRK

⏱️ Time is running out to achieve our 2030 global energy goals: triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency improvements. With just five years left, what is current progress looking like and how can we accelerate the just energy transition at the pace and scale required? At the Carbon Trust, we believe a whole systems approach—aligning renewable energy, the grid, finance, and policy—is key to unlocking progress. We spoke to Mary Burce Warlick from International Energy Agency (IEA), Helen Clarkson OBE from Climate Group, Dr Samira Barakat from Vattenfall, John Murton from Standard Chartered, Marcus Stewart from Green Grids Initiative (GGI) and David Elzinga from Asian Development Bank (ADB) to get their take on what is required to meet these global targets. ⬇️
