We want government to acknowledge the higher education system as one of the UK’s greatest soft power assets, and recognise the role that universities can play in contributing to government’s key missions, in particular growth, as anchor institutions across the UK, and as facilitators of partnerships around the world. A strong reputation and stability are key to soft power. Universities struggling financially is a reputational risk for the UK as a whole, and we need government to support our universities, as outlined in our recent blueprint publication, enabling them to thrive and provide maximum positive impact for the UK. At today’s UK-German higher education collaborations webinar, we've been inspired by Phil Stephens’ reflections on the thriving partnership between Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd and the University of Bremen. 🎓🤝 Since 2019, this collaboration has achieved outputs including: ✅ Student and staff exchanges that build bridges across borders ✅ Training and career development opportunities for postgraduate students at both institutions ✅ 65 published outputs to date ✅ Annual international summer schools fostering global learning ✅ Mutual participation in conferences and lecture series ✅ And much more! Their partnership is an excellent example of the power of international cooperation in driving innovation and opportunities in higher education.
