  • Advancing marine skills: Powerboat training at Grain LNG Grain LNG is pleased to announce the completion of powerboat training by our Marine Team. This training is an important key step forward for our team, especially for our four Load Masters, peter read, Sven Lumber, Luke Pickett, and Simon Locks, whose new roles were created to support our expanding marine operations. Accompanied by Charlie Boyd, Marine Supervisor, and ROY THOMAS, Marine Superintendent, the team undertook the RYA Level 2 Powerboat Handling course at Gravesend. For most participants, this was their initial experience with the training, while for Roy, it served as an important refresher. The Load Master role is new to our Marine Team, offering dedicated support to the marine activities at the Grain LNG terminal.  This role ensures our team communicates and interacts effectively with the crews of visiting ships and operates with the highest safety and efficiency standards. Alongside learning powerboat handling skills, the team also completed their VHF Radio Course Licence, equipping them with essential communication skills for marine operations. In addition to skills development, it provided a great opportunity for team building, helping to integrate the team members further.  This initiative is part of Grain LNG's commitment to ensuring that all team members are skilled, well-prepared, and safe in their roles. We are proud to have a dedicated Marine Team, unique within National Grid, and we look forward to their continued contribution to our operations. #GrainLNG #MarineTraining #SafetyFirst #TeamBuilding

Grain LNG's Visit to Russell Logistics Recently, Chris Shoulders, Operations Manager, and Damien Cahill, LNG Terminal Engineer from Grain LNG, had the pleasure of visiting the Russell Logistics Daventry Rail Depot. Russell Logistics is dedicated to enhancing its operations for the benefit of its customers and the environment. During our visit, we explored their Daventry site, a pivotal hub that loads containers and LNG ISO units for transport to and from Scotland. This operation is essential for supplying gas to off-grid Scottish communities and plays a significant role in reducing carbon emissions by preferring electric trains over diesel trucks for transportation. Chris Shoulders expressed his appreciation for the hospitality and the consistently high safety standards observed at Russell Logistics, stating, "Thank you for hosting our visit and for your continued dedication to safety within your operations." This partnership not only helps in providing crucial energy solutions but also aligns with our environmental goals by optimizing logistics in more sustainable ways. #Partnership #Sustainability #GrainLNG #Logistics

  • A day of community and teamwork at High Halstow Pre-school Last Thursday, over 20 volunteers from Grain LNG spent the day at High Halstow Pre-school. Our goal? To upgrade the outdoor play and learning areas for the local children. This effort is part of Grain LNG's long-standing commitment to support local charities and organisations. The team's efforts have given the preschool's facilities a new lease of life, from painting and planting to building and repairing. Anita, the preschool manager, was overwhelmed by all the improvements made. Her appreciation was clear as she observed the enhancements and repeatedly thanked the team for their hard work. These community days are about more than just the tasks completed; they bring our team together.  It's a chance for volunteers, including those who don't often work directly with one another, to connect and enjoy a rewarding day of teamwork. Ian Allison, Operations Development Manager at Grain, reflected on the day: "These community days and the volunteering that so many of the Grain Team do are a key component to the unique culture and family feel that is so strong at Grain LNG". Chelsea Malcolm, Control Systems Manager, added, 'It is safe to say that High Halstow preschool community was a success! The team worked hard to create a magical space for the children to play, learn and develop their motor skills. The tasks included building play equipment, repairing gates, painting fences and erecting a flatpack. We all had a brilliant day and spent time with colleagues we do not regularly work with. ' As we continue to engage with and support our community, we are reminded of the powerful impact we can have when we come together.  #CommunityEngagement #TeamBuilding #GrainLNG

  • Alpha at Grain LNG: A focus on mental rest In our exploration of the KISTT (Keeping It Safe Today & Tomorrow) currencies at Grain LNG, let's talk about "Alpha", those natural moments of mental rest that are important for maintaining focus and safety. At Grain LNG, recognising 'Alpha' involves understanding that our brain occasionally needs to rest, often without our conscious control. This can happen during tasks like driving where you might not recall parts of the journey, your brain is simply taking a short break. 🔹 What does Alpha involve? Every hour, it’s natural for our brain to slip into a few minutes of downtime. This can be during periods of reduced mental activity, allowing our mind to recharge briefly before continuing with our tasks. 🔹 Importance of Alpha: Acknowledging these moments helps us look out for each other. If we ignore our brain's need to rest, it can lead to burnout and increased mistakes. Instead, embracing these brief pauses can refresh our attention and prevent accidents. 🔹 Safety implications: Unchecked, the mind's wandering during these Alpha moments can lead to slips or mishaps, especially if one falls into bad habits. We encourage everyone to develop good habits that even during less conscious moments, safety and efficiency are maintained. 🔹 Supporting each other: At Grain LNG, we promote an environment where colleagues remind each other to take these necessary pauses and support each other in maintaining safe practices. This collaborative approach ensures that even during Alpha moments, our workplace remains safe and productive. We’re committed to integrating understanding of Alpha moments into our safety protocols, enhancing how we work together to maintain a vigilant and supportive environment. • Reflecting on a year of impact with Medway NHS A year ago, our team took on the Snowdon at Night challenge, aiming to complete the climb and contribute to better healthcare.  Today, we're pleased to see the practical benefits our efforts have brought to Medway NHS. Thanks to our collective effort, which raised an impressive £11,410, including match funding and Gift Aid, The Medway Hospital Charity was able to significantly advance patient care.  This funding enabled the purchase of ten ambulatory ECG monitors, which are crucial for diagnosing heart rhythm abnormalities. It's truly rewarding to know that our support extends beyond financial contributions; it directly improves patient care and outcomes. The Medway Hospital Charity, essential in funding equipment and projects outside the NHS budget, has used these funds effectively, ensuring excellent care for the community. Looking back, the Snowdon at Night challenge remains a memorable milestone for Team LNG. It showcased our commitment to supporting healthcare and making a lasting difference.  We're proud to be part of such a meaningful cause and grateful for the opportunity to contribute in a lasting way. • Adding a time capsule at Grain LNG At Grain LNG, we recently celebrated a milestone in the construction of our new LNG storage tank under the CAP 25 project. As part of a special ceremony, Goke Phillips, our Construction Director, left his unique mark on the project by imprinting his hand in the final pour of levelling concrete for the inner tank. This personal touch, hidden beneath the tank's floor, will serve as a time capsule, capturing the spirit of dedication and precision involved in this significant expansion. It's a tradition at Grain that symbolises our commitment to building a sustainable and secure energy future. This tank is a key component of our CAP 25 initiative, enhancing our infrastructure to meet growing energy needs. Follow our journey as we continue to advance in sustainable energy solutions. #GrainLNG #SustainableDevelopment #Engineering

  • Grain LNG fitness centre: Supporting health and wellbeing At Grain LNG, promoting a healthy and engaged workforce is at the heart of our award-winning health and wellbeing program.  Building on this commitment earlier this year, we proudly opened our new fitness centre to support our team's physical and mental wellbeing. Having easy access to high-quality fitness equipment right at the workplace is more than a perk; it's a vital part of our strategy to enhance overall health, reduce stress, and strengthen community ties among our staff.  The gym offers a flexible space where our team can engage in various activities that promote fitness, from cardiovascular workouts to strength training, all contributing to a healthier daily routine. This facility supports physical health and serves as a social hub, enhancing connections within our team through group fitness sessions and spontaneous gym meet-ups.  It's an investment in our team's health, proving that wellbeing is a priority that goes hand in hand with professional success. • Prioritising health during National Wellness Month at Grain LNG August marks National Wellness Month, when health and wellbeing take centre stage.  At Grain LNG, we're dedicated to ensuring the health of our team, which is why we've introduced on-site blood pressure checks in partnership with Medway Public Health and the Medway Healthy Workplaces programme. Shocking statistics reveal that in the UK, about one in three adults have high blood pressure, a condition often undiagnosed and untreated, known as the "silent killer."  To combat this, we invited local health professionals to our facility to conduct free blood pressure screenings.  These checks help identify health risks early and, if necessary, refer those in need to their local GP for further medical support. Out of approximately 141 employees and contractors screened, around 6% were referred for further consultation, highlighting the important need for such health initiatives. At Grain LNG, our commitment to the health and safety of our team goes beyond operational measures.  We're creating a supportive environment where everyone can access the resources they need to live healthier lives. As we continue to promote wellness and safety at Grain LNG, we're excited to share that more health-focused activities are in the pipeline.  #NationalWellnessMonth #HealthAtWork #GrainLNG
