  • Cathodic Protection System Updates - Longframlington Project 🙌 Our Glasgow and CAPEX delivery teams have been hard at work this year delivering a range of CP system upgrade projects across the network. These projects are focused on addressing P1 & P2 pipeline defects identified under the CP interventions program. One of our recent projects was on the Feeder 10 Thrunton to Saltwick pipeline, a 600mm diameter, 34,320m long pipeline commissioned in 1970, currently protected by two ICCP systems. The scope of work for the new CP system included: ✅ Installation of a concrete plinth/foundation ✅ Installation of 6m high, wind and solar power source ✅ Anode groundbed and test posts ✅ Coupon and reference electrode ✅ Marker posts and new pin braze DP connection point ✅ Drain point test post ✅ Positive and negative header cables, plus monitoring cables A great effort by the team to ensure the continued integrity and protection of this critical asset. 👏 If you’d like to know more about NGS and the work we do, please get in touch! 👇 📧 box.enquiriesNGS@nationalgas.com

  • Check out what we’ve been up to! 🙌 Our Ambergate team have recently been working alongside East Area Operations to complete remediation on a Cameron ball valve at Wisbech Nene West, ahead of site upgrade works. 📍 This project provided an exciting opportunity to utilise three innovative tools and techniques, developed collaboratively between our team and National Gas Innovation showcasing engineering talent at its finest! 1️⃣ Sealant Plug Adaption This technique allows us to ‘hot tap’ into the existing sealant plug under live gas conditions, creating a new sealant injection point. It’s a game-changer for valve maintenance, enhancing both efficiency and longevity. By installing sealant lines, we ensure the valve can be serviced long after excavation is backfilled. 2️⃣ Vent Tripod Designed in-house, this tool ensures a vent point is securely placed at a safe distance, allowing for a controlled and safe cavity vent. 3️⃣ Blowdown Tool The latest addition to our toolkit, this tool mounted on the vent tripod helps us verify and quantify the valve’s integrity before moving on to the next project phase: cut-out and welding works downstream. The development and deployment of these tools highlight the power of collaboration, bringing together multi-disciplined teams with world-class engineering skills. This is innovation in action! 🚀 If you’d like to know more about NGS and the work we do, please get in touch! 👇 📧 box.enquiriesNGS@nationalgas.com

  • Did you know ‼️ National Gas Services conduct aerial surveys to detect any activity on the ground that may be a threat to the pipeline. We operate a fleet of helicopters along with a fantastic crew of pilots to plan and deliver the schedule of surveys. 🚁 Pipelines are patrolled at 185 km/h and 500ft. 🚁 Drones are an easy way to access inaccessible areas. 🚁 Pipelines below 7bar are surveyed every 28 days. 🚁 Pipelines above 7bar are surveyed every 14 days. We are actively working on carbon footprint reduction solutions that will positively impact front line safety, watch this space!💡 If you’d like to know more about NGS and the work we do, please get in touch!👇 📧 box.enquiriesNGS@nationalgas.com

  • With International Women’s Day just around the corner, we are proud to have facilitated a Women in Operations networking event at our Ambergate site, bringing together women from across our operations workforce. 👩🏼🏭💫 For many of our colleagues working in male-dominated environments, opportunities to connect with other women in similar roles can be rare. This session provided a great space for them to share their experiences, build relationships and support one another— something that’s so important in helping women feel empowered in our industry. It was a fantastic event, and we’re looking forward to seeing this network grow as we continue to empower and connect our female colleagues across our operations network! 👏

👨🏭 It’s not every day that you get to weld… We often talk about National Gas as the hidden hero of the energy system. Neighbouring the beautiful Peak District is a true hidden hero - our National Gas Services Ambergate site. ⛰️ It’s difficult to describe - imagine Tracy Island in Thunderbirds. An extraordinary range of kit, from mobile units through to emergency repair equipment, and amazing teams who know (a lot!) about the entire gas industry. All ready to mobilise 24/7. I aim to visit a different site each month to try to keep up with the latest activity across our business, so that I can explain it to our external stakeholders. I love EVERY visit, but this one was really special. ⚙️ Whilst attempting to weld was good fun, what really stood out to me from our chats was the importance of transferring these nationally-significant skills from our experienced employees to new joiners including apprentices. Without these skills, ranging from welders to everyone else across NGS, how will we build the megaprojects of the future and keep the UK economy moving? Fortunately we have Tom and Charlie (both world skills welding finalists!) and many others across our business - but the industry needs more. 🤩 It was great to spend time with Emma, Kev, Rich, Graham, Charlie, Tom, and everyone across the site. Thank you for your time and patience with my many questions whilst I pointed at things (as pictured) and said “what does that do?”. We are #SecuringBritainsEnergy Note: all pictures approved and relevant safety procedures followed.

  • A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of hosting Cadent Gas Limited alongside DNV at our FutureGrid site.📍 It was a fantastic opportunity to share insights into our net zero journey, our ambition for hydrogen in the National Transmission System, and the wider hydrogen project programme that underpins this vision. The day provided a deep dive into the critical role of FutureGrid and how our compression and deblending projects are helping us progress towards a low-carbon future. Huge thanks to the FutureGrid team for their hard work in making this happen and to our guests for joining us! 👏 National Gas Innovation

  • Check out what we’ve been up to! 🙌 Our Hitchin team have recently completed works near Slough.📍   The scope was to carry out the removal of a high pressure 30" block valve arrangement near a site of special scientific interest. The project involved excavating two deep stopple pits at 4m depth and 14m in length before installing grouted tees for the stopples, safety bags and 8" steel bypass which was welded on site. With the gas isolated we successfully cut out and removed a leaking 30" ball valve along with the associated block valve pipework. A new section of 30" steel pipe was installed to replace the valve arrangement, this included 2 golden welds with 100% non-destructive testing carried out. With the pipe recommissioned and securely plugged off, the team then completed the backfill and reinstatement. This was a challenging project, as the initial excavation plan had to be adapted from a battered design to a trench box, due to site constraints. Access restrictions and surrounding trees also made logistics difficult, requiring multiple smaller vehicle trips to transport materials. Additionally, we had to work with the local landowners to ensure they could maintain access to their horses in the adjacent field. After months of dedicated effort, the project was successfully completed. And we want to say huge well done to the team for their problem-solving, adaptability, and commitment to delivering high-quality work once again. 👏   If you’d like to know more about NGS and the work we do, please get in touch 👇 📧 box.enquiriesNGS@nationalgas.com
