🌏 Did you know? Methane has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) that’s 28-36 times higher than CO₂ over 100 years, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report. Recognizing the urgency, #GGGI has launched the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation for Methane Mitigation (AKCMM) project at an event in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Funded by the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF), this project is the first under the Partnership for ASEAN-ROK Methane Action (PARMA). It aims to cut methane emissions in the ASEAN region with four strategic interventions: ✅ Developing policies & institutions ✅ Improving methane measurement ✅ Designing, financing & implementing reduction projects ✅ Promoting regional dialogue & partnerships GGGI is committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the AKCMM project, driving methane reduction and fostering sustainable growth across #ASEAN. 🌱 👉Read more: https://bit.ly/4gWMYhV #MethaneReduction #GreenGrowth #AKCMM, #PARMA #AKCF #MethanePledge

📈🌍Leveraging Korean Experience to Develop Viet Nam’s Emission Trading System GGGI and the Ministry of Finance (MoF) yesterday held a technical meeting in Hanoi to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration to support the development of Viet Nam's domestic Emission Trading System (#ETS). Towards achieving Viet Nam’s net-zero emissions target by 2050, establishing a functional carbon market is a key priority. The country is expediting the development of a domestic #carbonmarket with the piloting of the ETS in 2025 and achieving full operation by 2028. The market is envisioned to significantly drive emissions reductions and generate revenue for low-carbon investments. Supporting this goal, GGGI, with funding from the Korean Green New Deal Fund (#KGNDF), has been providing technical assistance to the MoF and related agencies to build capacity and develop effective financial management mechanisms for the ETS. The discussion drew on valuable experience and practical lessons from the Korea ETS, a successful Asian national-level ETS model, and explored opportunities to forge a collaborative path forward to accelerate the development of Vietnam's domestic carbon market. The event saw active participation from experts and representatives of the MOF departments and key stakeholders in the development of the Viet Nam ETS, including the State Securities Commission, Viet Nam Stock Exchange, Hanoi Stock Exchange, Viet Nam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation, and others. #EmissionTradingSystem #NetZero

🏙️💦 Green Bonds Driving Clean Water Infrastructure Development for Hanoi Residents Marking another step forward for green finance in Viet Nam, GGGI expands its support to provide essential technical assistance for the first green bond issuance in the water sector in the country by Hoa Binh-Xuan Mai Clean Water Limited Liability Company (Hoa Binh-Xuan Mai). Valued at VND 875.1 billion (approx. USD 34.5 million), the 20-year green bonds are guaranteed by GuarantCo, with Chubb Life as the anchor investor, joined by AIA, Generali, and Hanwha. The Hoa Binh-Xuan Mai Green Bond framework was developed with technical support and strategic recommendations by GGGI, in alignment with the International Capital Market Association (ICMA)’s Green Bond Principles. Under the framework, the green bond proceeds will fund the development of a greenfield water supply project in Hoa Binh province to provide clean water primarily to the Hanoi region. As Hanoi strives to raise urbanization rate to 75% by 2030, this project’s capacity will be pivotal in addressing the increasing demand for clean water in the region. Utilizing river water as feedstock, the project is in line with the Vietnamese government’s efforts to reduce reliance on groundwater and promote the use of alternative water sources while delivers high quality of water, which will positively impact public health and well-being. 👉 Read more at: https://lnkd.in/gU7xXXuw ----- GGGI's technical assistance for this issuance is supported by the Government of Luxembourg under the Viet Nam Green Bond Readiness Program to accelerate the development of the #greenbond market in Viet Nam. 🤝 🌏 Viet Nam and GGGI Launch the new 2024-2028 Country Plan for Green Growth and Climate Actions The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) officially announce the launch of the Viet Nam-GGGI Country Planning Framework (CPF) 2024-2028. The framework is set to fortify Viet Nam-GGGI collaboration over the next five years, driving support for Viet Nam's green growth ambitions and climate actions, including achieving the net-zero 2050 target. 📈 Viet Nam has solidified its status as a bright investment destination in Southeast Asia. Amid the impressive economic momentum, the country is accelerating its decarbonization efforts. The transition to a low-carbon economy requires significant financial resources, technical assistance, and a robust innovation ecosystem. Aligned with national policies and strategies, the CPF aims to advance Viet Nam’s green growth agenda by supporting transformative policy implementation, preparing bankable projects in key sectors, mobilizing green investments, and providing capacity development support to stakeholders. The strategic focused areas of the new CPF 2024-2028 include green investments, climate action, green industries (with a strong focus on climate tech startups), climate-resilient agriculture, waste management, green buildings, and carbon pricing. 👉Find out more https://lnkd.in/gtMMV4Xq (English) | https://lnkd.in/gRR5t4w5 (Vietnamese) 📺: https://lnkd.in/g-tYQ9qz ----- Juhern Kim Maria Cecilia Paña Huong Ta Chu Duong Manh DO Thu Giang Do Huong Do Tran Bao Minh Hung Bui Giap Nguyen Mai Hoa Dao CFA Sugyeong Kang Ha Nguyen Photos: MPI & GGGI

🌊⭐ GGGI supports IDI’s USD 40 million green bond issuance, boosting sustainable finance in Viet Nam’s seafood industry Announced in the signing ceremony on Tuesday, 26 November in Ho Chi Minh city, this issuance of VND 1,000 billion (USD 40 million equivalent) by International Development and Investment Corporation (#IDI), a subsidiary of Sao Mai Group, marks the first green bond by a corporate issuer in the aquaculture industry in Viet Nam. The issuance is fully guaranteed by GuarantCo -- part of The Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG) and subscribed by Manulife Investment Management and AIA. 🌱 Reflecting IDI’s commitment towards sustainable practices, under the green bond framework, the use of proceeds will be allocated to eligible projects that promote sustainable and environmentally friendly fish farming and production. These include development of sustainable fish breeding and hatchery facilities, and a new processing plant applying eco-friendly practices approaching international sustainability standards set by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP). These standards are crucial for Vietnamese companies seeking to access international markets with best-practice sustainability requirements.
